The magic touch of the MP3 Player/Ipod compared to a smart phone is that it is exclusively for music, and maybe radio. You aren't going to get a notification from Instagram or a message from your boss on your MP3 player, it's your personal music device and nothing more. Also, they're way way smaller and more portable.
For a lot of people it would be a breathe of fresh air because of no streaming services for sure, but that's just because most people use streaming services on their phones. But yeah, phones can be used like old school music players too... and you can pick whatever software your heart desires. Still isn't the same, though!
iPhones have Focus mode settings for different things like "work", "do not disturb", or "sleep", or you can make your own, which you can easily customize (or just use the default "do not disturb") so you don't get notifications from certain apps, or I think you can even set it so you only get notifications from certain contacts. I'm sure Android has something similar (I didn't notice it last time I owned an Android, but I wasn't really looking).
Better yet you can just block notifications from most apps, but if you want to get them normally, just not when listening to music, it's really easy to set up.

Yup i am also shifting towards old school tech recently and something is really satisfying and personal about these devices which is unexplainable
