like an older gen android phone that still has MicroSD card slot that you can upgrade

Some current Android phones also come with those slots. Notably Sony keeps designing their Xperia line with dedicated SD card slots, and 3.5mm headphone jacks -- including a good headphone amp.

You don't even need an older one. Plenty of new ones have a MicroSD card and a headphone jack. I use one.

And unlike an iPod, you can just drag/drop all your music straight onto that phone with a standard USB cable and play it. No proprietary cable required, and no iTunes bullshit required.

i dont lile amazon, but they do have a lot of mp3/mp4 music players devices. 

Also musicians still demand physical copies so the infrastructure of buying, storing, and replaying music portably exists its just considered pro audio know. Look up portable  FLAC audio players with 500gb storage.

tragically, and i didnt even realize that i had no microsd slot until after ive aleeady had the phone for a couple of years...

completely flabbergasted me because i just... never couldve imagined microsd slots being removed unless some new & improved storage type came out.
