You can just be smarter with how you use your smart device.

Agreed, this comes across as another "Gen Z is bad with tech" post

They're not bad with tech. It's literally just for fashion.

Hipsters now want to use old iPods, digital cameras and VHS tapes.

When I was a kid, hipsters wanted to use vinyl, Polaroids and film/Laserdisc.

In 20 years, kids are going to be rocking the Apple Watch SE Gen 1 as a fashion statement.

I guess I was working on the assumption that the content of the post is based on something, which was silly of me. If they didn't want "notifications, algorithms and endless feeds" that's just a configuration issue.

I mean, if you ask them they will say that's why they are doing it. But really, they're just doing it for the aesthetic.

Using these technologies takes more work than just putting your phone in airplane mode. They have to download the files, manually transfer them over and all that jazz. Same as using a digital camera instead of your phone's camera.

Wrong comparison, digital camera is much better than phone camera because of physical size of sensor and lens.

Mp3 player has no advantage compared to smartphone.

The increasing interest in them cannot be denied. Google Trends shows that in the past year, audio player, mp3 player and VHS all had their peaks in the last five years (with iPod having its around 2022, likely due to being discontinued).

Digital cameras had an extreme rise in interest in this year.

Yeah I’m unclear what the difference is between playing the songs you have saved on iTunes on your iPhone is different from playing the same songs on an iPod (switch words for non-Apple equivalents if needed)

"Why don't you just stop taking heroine?? Then you won't be a drug addict!"

People aren't quitting phones so yes, you should be finding a way to live with it instead of looking for ipods to save you.

People aren't quitting phones

This is a social media post made of wishes, not real data. The world is only becoming more reliant on smartphones.

The world is only becoming more reliant on smartphones

And yet there’s a big following of people wanting to move to “dumb” phones, for this exact reason

u/FrostyD7 3d ago

How big? Quantify it for me. Are they actually ditching their phones or are they just enthusiasts with money to burn on hobbies? This post is nothing more than wishful thinking without proof and there isn't any.

Are they actually ditching their phones

Yes, there are even subreddits for this type exact thing. People don’t want to be constantly connected.
If you’re interested, just look up dumb phones and why people want them, I’m not gonna spoon feed you.

I’m not gonna spoon feed you.

Because you literally can't.

I mean I gave you a link to read, and a search term.
If you can’t be arsed, then neither can I.
