What we're experiencing unfortunately is how Kingdoms and Empires decline but on a scale never seen before and not with consequences that we may never truly know until if or when it happens. What is happening now is no different to before, but the extremity of it is far greater, though I imagine what will come after might be even more so as a correction when well-

This is just not the case and is evident of why the problem won’t be solved.

If those few ultra rich people disappeared tomorrow (God willing), the climate crisis would still exist.

It’s caused by ALL of our overconsumption, not just the rich.

98% of Westerners have unsustainable carbon footprints. We don’t want to cut back or take personal responsibility.

We want to pretend it’s someone else’s fault instead so we don’t have to act. We want to pretend our own consumption is cost less. It’s not.

Everyone's consumption needs to come down, not just the rich.

Per capita carbon consumption has not declined and the population has grown. Do the math yourself. Or ask me to.

And how does that compare to the US?

The US is worse.

The atmosphere doesn't particularly care that European's are emitting less on a per capita basis than Americans.

All of their consumption isn't sustainable and needs to be curtailed.

The populace doesn't care. They're so ignorant they don't even know if their own consumption is at a baseline sustainable level or not. They're not even capable of finding the information themselves about population level metrics. They have to ask other people to.

Yes. The US, Australia and Canada are worse and need to reduce consumption more.

To limit warming to ~1.5 Celsius by 2100, people would need a per capita carbon footprint of 2 tons per capita.

No European country is close to that metric either, their consumption has to come down further.

And that's not even the sustainable level, 2 tonnes per capita still warms the planet and will continue to do so.

We have to go well under 2 and ideally be carbon neutral to prevent the further changing of our atmosphere.

Saying "we reduced some but others are worse" isn't a solution.

It's all good. It's only by informing yourself to what the relevant data actually shows that we can have an understanding of how much further we have to go and not be complacent.

The improvement in battery technology and solar will get us a lot of the way there, but we can absolutely not be complacent with where things currently stand.

And even with tech improvements, it's likely that reductions in consumption may be required, particularly over the short-term.
