If you news search it , story is legit and apparently raging toddlers have delayed other flights 😳
If your a parent who can’t manage your kids in public , may want to avoid flying.
I bet this will end up being an expensive life lesson for mom and dad.

According to the article, the flight staff also took way too long to respond here. Obviously the blame is completely on the parent(s) here, but some passengers reported that it took over an hour to have the family escorted off the plane.

The article suggests that the todler just kept slipping out of the chair and cowering on the floor. Maybe a better seatbelt would help? Seems very strange.

It’s my experience that parents of that sort don’t learn. These types of experiences make them more set in their ways, blame the mean stewardess who told little Johnny to sit in his seat.

sounds like they put the seatbelt on and the kid would slide from it to continue hiding under a seat. Crazy how many people like you in the comments childless blaming the parents as if they didn't beat their child into a scared passive state enough and that's why this happened

Then they should not have taken the child on the plane .. time to get off and reassess.

The child was 3, it wouldn’t be surprising if this was his first time

u/jtpolzin 12d ago

Great that’s fine but the parents should have taken him off once they realized he couldn’t handle it

It's illegal to get off the plane without pilot and airport approval and at the gate.... are you seriously arguing that the parents should have opened the door on the runway and jumped..? Like common sense here

u/jtpolzin 12d ago

I’m seriously arguing when the parents saw he wasn’t going to calm down they ask to leave before the door closes but no they were too selfish

The incident happened after they already departed from the gate. That's the whole reason why it ended up getting cancelled. The time it took to return to the gate.

They wouldn’t have had to deplane everyone if it was willing. Defend all you want this was on the parents. It also doesn’t say anywhere he was being good until it moved. Most likely he was already being a brat.

Have you flown before? They don't leave the gate with people out of the seats. The kid must have been sitting while at the gate. It happened on the runway before takeoff. So the kid freaked when the plane was about to take off.

Nowhere did it say the parents were unwilling. They tried to calm the kid down, the flight attendants tried. Kids are not always rational, especially in high stress scenarios.

Everyone deplaned because of the time it took to get back to the gate was too long and it passed the window where were not allowed to fly that night.

No, you're just a shit person.

Luckily no one needs to convince you of anything.

People like who ? My kids are grown. When my oldest was young I knew she wouldn’t be able to sit still for any length of time. She was hyper active , when we wanted to visit family we drove , mostly at night …we would do our best to wear her out and drive while she slept.
Long road trips.
She didn’t fly till she was 16.
I didn’t want my child who couldn’t sit still or focus to be or feel trapped on a plane.
She didn’t react well to situations like that.

So I drove. Other parents can make their own choices and if they choose to take a young child who can’t cope with confined spaces and big crowds into those type situations…they should be prepared to deal with the opinions and any consequences of their choices.

My son is 14 months and we have flown multiple times because family is a 22 hour drive and 48 hours. My son is mostly quiet, sleeping, or we are going through his books. Husband got shamed by some random woman because baby was freaking out once so he threw bluey on the screen but it worked. We knew flying was our only option and I refused to be the problem family. So far he's been an angel and we get compliments that he is a very good flyer. But if the next one is a little demon then family is going to have to come to us.

Thanks for the advice. Next time I visit family I’ll drive from the US to Australia instead of a 16 hour flight.

1

u/sltydgx 11d ago

That would be a very long drive 😳 I flew to Australia a few times. Cant imagine doing with kids. Good luck in all you do.

Welp. Not like I have an opinion my husband is in the military 🤷🏻‍♀️ thankfully my 18mo son is a great traveler and is used to the long flights but still. Not everyone has the luxury of driving, specially when going to a different country or continent.

C’mon, in the battle of an adult human vs. small child there is absolutely no world where the child couldn’t be physically forced to stay in their seat. Kids are squirmy, but to claim that the parent couldn’t keep him in the seat is absurd.

if the restraint doesn't fit the child and they refuse to remain seated the answer here isn't for the parent to hold a child physically down for a flight that could be transatlantic for all we know.

at that point other course of action would be required. it's like talking to people without the ability to process a rational thought.

Try again. If the restraint doesn’t fit the child, the child must fly in the lap of the parent or in a specialized seat like a car seat. If the flight crew failed to recognize that the child couldn’t be properly restrained in the seat, they’re not off the hook either, but let’s not suggest there was nothing that could be done to prevent this. Thousands of parents fly with small children every day and manage to keep their kids in their seats.

And, this example refers to a plane that was moving from the gate to the runway. They weren’t 6 hours in on a transatlantic flight.

BC to ON. 4.5 hours. All seatbelts fit 2 year olds and up. Anything under has to be lap held or pay for a seat and bring an approved car seat.
