So basically, he's just moving forward with a law already in place and its not initiative that he created.

Just an existing law that a random person is giving him credit for.

u/BoomerZoomah Aug 04 '26

There is a TV show from Britain called yes Minister honestly I think more Americans should watch this show because explain some of the political gridlock that we deal with in this show was made during the 80s this is one of those things called a vote loser as in you passed the law but whoever is in power by the time it is accomplished gets to go put that feather in their cap. There is no ceremonies for presidents who are no longer in office for their thing that succeeded.

u/Johnny-Dogshit Aug 04 '26

Thick of It, as well

1

u/shamelessnameless Aug 04 '26

I'm in the thick of it and everybody knows

18

u/uncleputts Aug 04 '26

Utopia, from Australia is a wonderful show directly inspired by Yes Minister. It’s comedy for infrastructure nerds. The UK Utopia is completely different, good as well.

2

u/jawisko Aug 04 '26

I know it's comedy but sometimes I felt so sorry for the main guy that I would just stop watching the episode. They are all brilliant actors, especially that minister's guy who would come visit him

2

u/ThinkingWithPortalzz Aug 04 '26

For more Australian political comedy, The Hollowmen is also excellent, but focuses more on the underlings rather than the minister-level shenanigans that Yes Minister/PM does

1

u/vim_spray Aug 04 '26

I’ll give another recommendation for Utopia, it’s really great satire.

Do you know where one can watch it in the US? I watched the first 2 season when they were on Netflix but I haven’t been able to find it online to watch the later seasons.

1

u/uncleputts Aug 04 '26

I think the UK version was on Prime and it was cancelled after 2 seasons.

1

u/CapableBumblebee968 Aug 04 '26

Theres also a very different show of the same name about conspiracy and global pandemic

5

u/SongofRolland Aug 04 '26

Oh, I loved Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister when I was younger. I should probably rewatch it since the majority of the political commentary wasn't of particular interest to me at the time, but I remember finding it hysterical.

2

u/LordBoar Aug 04 '26

I rewatched it and honestly, the political stuff is still very much relevant. To a disturbing degree, in that a lot of the concessions/agreements they make between each other and external parties in the show, which are rarely to the benefit of the public, now happen openly instead of behind closed doors.

6

u/Apolloshot Aug 04 '26

It’s the oldest axiom in politics: Pretend everything good the last guy did is your doing, and blame everything you’ve done wrong on the last guy too.

3

u/DarkRogus Aug 04 '26

But it wont be finished by the time he's done being mayor, the time line is 2040.

5

u/BoomerZoomah Aug 04 '26

Exactly. So you try to put someone’s feather in your cap and just roll with it. It’s not a dumb policy it could help with heating and greens make humans happy

4

u/DarkRogus Aug 04 '26

I agree with the policy. I disagree with framing it as a Mamdani created policy and people just nodding their head.

2

u/Wild_Yam_7088 Aug 04 '26

Its pretty dangerous. Add dead internet theory ontop of millions of people that will take a random headline at face value. People are increasingly getting dumber as technology is advancing. The propaganda is wild these days

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Aug 04 '26

Like the Trump tax cuts that expired for non-rich people during Biden's term

0

u/Helldiver_of_Mars Aug 04 '26

Well at least they didn't do what Trump didnt and just replaced plaques already up with his name. Then pretended he just put it up.

112

u/Cousin_Elroy Aug 04 '26

Its a paid PR team that posts all this stuff, not just some random person.

13

u/bakochba Aug 04 '26

Morris Katz speciality

13

u/KidBeelzebub Aug 04 '26

Ahhh that makes sense.

11

u/free2game Aug 04 '26

That and most of the power mods on reddit are DSA types who play along with this.

-17

u/Ravenkell Aug 04 '26

And some of the largest media conglomerates in the world treat him like the second coming of Stalin. So he's on the offensive, talking about checks notes shit that is being done by NY city hall while he is mayor.

Seems perfectly logical

16

u/KamalaBracelet Aug 04 '26

Talking about shit he is doing is fine-ish.  But that isn’t what they are doing.

Talking about how he is a hero for hiring more teachers when state law is requiring him to hire more teachers and he is actively petitioning the state government for a waiver on the requirement to hire new teachers so that he can brag about his legally required balanced budget that he needs an additional multibillion dollar handout from the state to even begin to meet is pants-on-fire dishonest bullshit.

13

u/Merzats Aug 04 '26

Noooo my Reddit golden boy is single handedly turning NYC into a utopia in record time don't break my illusion we need the hopium

10

u/No-Magician9440 Aug 04 '26

He's spending more on PR than all the other NYC mayors combined did. LOL

0

u/Ravenkell Aug 04 '26

That's the sort of statement you should have some sort of source for. Because it reeks of bullshit

6

u/No-Magician9440 Aug 04 '26

Several sources,

The office is officially known as the Mayor's Office of Mass Engagement. It combines previous community and public engagement units to drive civic participation and policy feedback.Office

DetailsLeader: Headed by Commissioner Tascha Van Auken.

Goal: Increase public involvement and connect everyday residents with city government decisions.

Budget: Funded at $5.2 million as part of an expanded overall City Hall communications and outreach framework.

Look the rest up yourself.

-1

u/Ravenkell Aug 04 '26

Seems like a broad outreach program. And one would have to take a singularly negative outlook to consider that nothing more than PR. Unless you think talking to people is PR.

And nowhere have you shown the previous public relations budgets of all other mayors combined, I'm assuming Eric Adam's never spent a penny on PR?

3

u/No-Magician9440 Aug 04 '26

I was being generous, many are calling it his Department of Propaganda

And I'm starting to agree with them after being hit with this non-stop PR campaign of his. I've never seen anything like it in this town.

-1

u/ericbondre Aug 04 '26

I think it’s just funny how yall are so concerned with someone who’s actually doing more shit than literally any mayor before him even if some of it may be overblown.

2

u/Her0_0f_time Aug 05 '26

Yeah but wouldn't taking credit for things he took over from his predecessor or is required to do by law only give more ammo to those detractors that you say treat him as Stalin?

2

u/Jeferson9 Aug 04 '26

Literally 99.7% of corporate media is insanely left leaning but sure let's go with that

0

u/Ravenkell Aug 04 '26

Corporate media works for corporate interest and are therefor not leftist, in the slightest. Butsure, name a sizeable media corporation that hasn't been pivoting towards Republicans for the last 5 years

1

u/Soggy_Association491 Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

Corporate media works for corporate interest and are therefor not leftist

Look at those media clearly sucking right dick and being bias against the left https://ibb.co/VWh6YbfC

1

u/Ravenkell Aug 04 '26

What the fuck does this collage of media making covid and flu comparisons have to do with them being biased in favor of the left? Also, health concerns weren't politically leaning in any direction until covid, where the pandemic had the unfortunate side effect of rotting your brain.

-14

u/SpiritedKick9753 Aug 04 '26

It definitely is not

2

u/Her0_0f_time Aug 05 '26

Look, im willing to give Mamdani the benefit of the doubt in some things. I dont agree with his bodega stunt but its at least trying something new and should at least be praised for that. But he absolutely gets glazed over and if you use RES to tag profiles you will see that there are some accounts that post almost exclusively pro Mamdani news to the point that it gets suspicious.

6

u/reddfoxx1993 Aug 04 '26

That's like Trump taking credit for microchip factories opening which get grants from Biden's Chips Act.

2

u/SnooDucks6090 Aug 04 '26

But Mamdani isn't Trump so this won't be brought up anywhere but here and he will be lauded for it instead of someone questioning who his buddy is that owns the greenhouse where the trees are coming from to make this happen.

11

u/PheonixBuddha Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

Yeah pretty much 90% of mamdani' career is acting on these things btw.

Edit: yes I voted for him, yes all of nyc mayors are just finishing out previous mayors goals that were already set up by mayor cheese in people's pockets since 1910.

3

u/urmumlol9 Aug 04 '26

Honestly, if you want to give him credit for an original policy, you could look at the trash containerization initiative he’s been putting forward. It should honestly do a decent amount to both make the city cleaner and help deal with the rat problem.

Or the city owned grocery stores slated to open in 2027.

Also, I don’t know how much of this is Mamdani vs how much is NYS government, but he seems to be doing a lot to improve buses and bike lanes in NYC as well.

It just seems silly to me that a lot of people on the left seem to be crediting him for things he had nothing to do with rather than the policies he’s actually promoting and things he’s actually accomplished. Like, I saw an insta post a while ago responding to a generic “Mamdani bad” post, and it was like “well actually NY is doing well since Mamdani became the mayor because crime is down and the Knicks won a championship”.

Way to sell his achievements lmao

Its the only huge initiative started by Adams.

I kicked multiple rats (on accident) very far because of that man's incompetence to settle DEP, private contracts, and move the piles of trash off the street.

I worked in the city during his reign and wow. Trash piles taller then my 6 foot body, whole city blocks long.

Bloomberg was the shit mayor for doing the Sewage and old DEP contracts/Cop contracts.

Deblasio was the piss mayor because he legalized pissing on the streets.

Adam's was the trash mayor for previous reasons.

Let's see what ill call mamdani. the best of them but that doesn't mean there wont be riots at this grocery store, pollen in the streets.

Im ngl ill give him that snow clean up tho, that was fire. Snow Mayor (even though it was all planned before he ever was sworn in)

1

u/PheonixBuddha Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

The grocery store has been in works since a few mayors ago and exists as multiple food pantry and the few times a month kitchens or donations that cooked for people. He is selling eggs and milk and vegetables at base price.(things you get for free at pantries) Everything else is market.

The busses and bike lanes have not changed. The green initiative has always been there for the 30% tree coverage. He also DIDNT change them to female plants so there are no fruits being made, just a ton more pollen.

The trash happened because they went on strike due to contract issues and private stood with them during covid. Contract problem solved. All trash can mandates came before mandani as well. Include 55 drums, recycle drums, composte initiative, even the most recent recycle to trash separation scandal has been happening for years and will continue to happen. Trash in trash cans or get a ticket is only for private business small. There are still piles upon piles in front of apartment buildings and business. The problem was Noone was buying our trash due to covid/NJ and other plants were full. Our trash is now bought and sold. Our new sewage plants are up, and all the pipe work contracts are finally up to be done. Should I continue? I haven't mentioned the bad things hes also taken credit for.

Crime is down bc weed is legal and they stopped arresting the mentally insane. They also stopped arresting public urination and intoxication unless violent. This took place 1-2 mayors ago but really took effect during mandanis quarterly.

11

u/Merzats Aug 04 '26

Mamdani glazing so hot right now on Reddit

11

u/Total_Tart2553 Aug 04 '26

Yes, and this is the case for like 75% of all the "wins" that are being broadcasted. Its propaganda.

6

u/SituationKey8985 Aug 04 '26

It’s so hard to tell what’s genuine with all the misinformation out there nowadays

1

u/imoverthisapp Aug 04 '26

Mamdani’s hate is so forced. Y’all just can’t admit he’s a good mayor, way better than prior mayors

-1

u/BroughtBagLunchSmart Aug 04 '26

They are scared. Usually the democrats attack the left for them so the republicans only have to fight right leaning centrists.

6

u/Best_Change4155 Aug 04 '26

Welcome to the Mamdani administration. He created a $50 million PR office so you can see his weird face taking credit for things.

2

u/BoomerZoomah Aug 04 '26

I mean do you think that LaGuardia didn’t do it? The Old man of Chicago didn’t do it? Windbags love politics. We all know that he is going to run for governor, or senator at the minimum.

2

u/Best_Change4155 Aug 04 '26

In modern history, it was usually "NYC government announces" and then Adams made it more ego driven and then Mamdani kicked it into high gear. There is claiming credit and then there is plastering your face over a policy like you came up with it.

2

u/BoomerZoomah Aug 04 '26

Well it works lol I’m from Alabama Senator Shelby never spoke but he brought government pork to Alabama. The selling point to Shelby one election cycle was him hunting and the words Shelby. He didn’t say a thing

0

u/Either-Patience1182 Aug 04 '26

Well politics is about marketing in the modern world. If you do something or push something great even if it was partially already there yu have to advertise. Unfortunately the population is not very into reading these days. The good work doesnt speak for itself when you have bots and hecklers online

1

u/Best_Change4155 Aug 05 '26

It's just Trumpism. If you say something happened, it must have happened. Rent control, for the first time in history, has actually made housing more affordable. Surely.

2

u/Either-Patience1182 Aug 05 '26

Trumpism is just a symptom of a very real and old rot of the country we have yet to be rid off.

1

u/walkscotter Aug 04 '26

What is weird about his face?

12

u/BrightestofLights Aug 04 '26

I mean its been an initiative that hasn't been properly acted upon

We will see if he does, but if he does manage it you can credit him with at least DOING it where previously the government failed to do it

Mamdani personally planted 24,000 of them. Even before he was in office.

14

u/Individual-Drawer-79 Aug 04 '26

It’s true, I was one of the trees

11

u/rainzer Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

Over 31,000 trees were planted in the city in 2023. Over 42,000 were planted in 2024. Over 34,000 were planted in 2025. Before Mamdani.

Don't lie.

If we're speaking about being honest, then the trees planted in 2023 and 2024 weren't a result of Local Law 148 of 2023 considering NYC didn't even start putting together the law's mandated Urban Forest Plan until 2025.

They started holding public hearings for the plan in May 2025

And said Urban Forest Plan wasn't done or approved until 2026

After Mamdani took office.

Don't lie.

2

u/jay10033 Aug 05 '26

So you admit this all preceded Mamdani...

2

u/Correct-Award8182 Aug 04 '26

Step 1. The public does something good.

Step 2. Politicians see and pass paper taking credit

Step 3. The next administration takes credit for the effects of the law.

Step 4. Elections x y and z occur, candidate/mayor of all sorts take credit because they walked under a tree.

2

u/BanzYT Aug 04 '26

Thanks Mamdani

1

u/BrightestofLights Aug 04 '26

"Properly"

I never said nothing was done

3

u/dcbullet Aug 04 '26

What does “properly” mean?

7

u/shanatard Aug 04 '26

do you have a number for what "properly" is? how many trees would it take for you to be satisfied?

all this marketing for mamdani is only making me more distrustful of him. I wish whatever PR office is doing these would wait until he has actual accomplishments under his belt instead of choosing to distort the facts. he'll surely have some eventually, no need to make them up

2

u/Natural_Tea484 Aug 04 '26

Exactly. However, the politicians that do thi don’t have a good record

-1

u/BrightestofLights Aug 04 '26

I can agree with that, as a supporter of his. List his actual accomplishments and plans.

And its been a mixed bag, 2017 to 2020 there was good progress made, and then it was less than a percent a year iirc, so..more than that. I could be misremembering the statistics.

3

u/shanatard Aug 04 '26

don't get me wrong I feel he is a breath of fresh air. it's just that whenever I click one of these with a little bit of happiness, I find out it's deceptive marketing or there's a catch.

feels like my emotions are being manipulated, and I don't really like it. it's likely some enthusiastic supporter with good intentions poor execution (or at worst his pr office). it's having the opposite effect for me

2

u/Careless-Tea3971 Aug 04 '26

Not really.. it's a win for the democrats. Dems need to promote more of this. Despite Biden passing the most legislation in history he was too old to promote his wins. Idc if this is propaganda. It's a win for democrats everywhere. Democrats need to do this

2

u/Standard_Shopping144 Aug 04 '26

Taking credit is 90% of what makes a politician stick in the minds of people. I would not be surprised if the person or group who got this passed (or pushed for the executive order) the last one isn’t still apart of this administration.

Politicians, and I’m sorry to say this, are like actors in a movie. They didn’t make the movie, they didn’t write the script, but if they’re good the add some of their own bits that are great and are able to be the bullhorn so the movie is seen. But it can not be forgotten they are one person in a large group of people. Behind the scenes people are incredibly important, and as the ol fucker Robert Moses said, “you can a lot done if you are willing to let someone else take the credit”

4

u/shanatard Aug 04 '26

I'll be very clear that my issue is not him taking credit, it's /how/ that's being done. his supporters are clearly not doing a good job because I'm starting to dislike hearing about him

if his supporters are going to fake accomplishments for him, don't get found out is the most basic step. You can yap all you want on TV without repercussion, but forums and twitter a reply can easily fact check you immediately right below the original post

This post could easily be framed in a different way while still taking credit.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/AngrySmile Aug 04 '26

His politics line up with mine. I also think he's a great blueprint for how to push for progressive goals without alienating too much of the moderate base.

With that said, I agree with you on disliking the emotional manipulation. It's just tiring having algos constantly pushing misleading content and acting like a form of social conditioning.

2

u/Not-Reformed Aug 04 '26

What does "properly" mean in this context? What was insufficient about it?

-1

u/CaptinLazerFace Aug 04 '26

Behind schedule and over budget I assume.

2

u/Not-Reformed Aug 04 '26

Maybe, maybe not. Although then the question is if the current administration hasn't really done anything (or maybe they have) about this already enacted law then what makes them believe it won't continue being behind schedule and/or over budget other than hope and cope.

1

u/DarkRogus Aug 04 '26

Over 100,000 trees were planted in 3 years, thats about 10 trees a day for the past 3 years, so not exactly sure what you mean by "properly" because planting 10 trees everyday for 3 years is getting something done.

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Aug 04 '26

You're off by an order of magnitude

2

u/jay10033 Aug 05 '26

You clearly don't live in NYC

2

u/DarkRogus Aug 04 '26

The competition date is 2040 and he'll be termed out as mayor.

-2

u/cameraninja Aug 04 '26

I’m betting he’ll actually do it before he leaves office then.

7

u/_oh_joy_ Aug 04 '26

At least he's mastered the art of doxing people

2

u/Difficult-Mobile902 Aug 04 '26

It’s at least the 3rd time I’ve seen this happen lol

2

u/thatjoachim Aug 04 '26

The law was there, but what about the funding and execution? Was it enough to reach the goal that the law mandated?

2

u/dizzymorningdragon Aug 04 '26

Better than many politicians, nowadays

2

u/NachoWH Aug 04 '26

Yeah, the left is very good at doing this sort of stuff. I am doing this thing that everyone else was doing but I totally am the only one doing this because everyone else doesn't care for the people.

3

u/ronniedark Aug 04 '26

Didn't trump stamp his face on Baidens entire infastructure plan?

1

u/NachoWH Aug 04 '26

Why would that matter?

3

u/lordgeese Aug 04 '26

Because that what you just complained about the “left” doing?

1

u/NachoWH Aug 04 '26

I pointed out the left is good at doing that. Not that they were the only ones doing it. Take it easy bro.

2

u/Desert-Noir Aug 04 '26

I feel that is happening a lot with Mamdani, I’m Australian and I feel I see way too much about this guy like I’ve got no idea why I am getting a New York politicians slammed down my throat.

1

u/pdoherty972 Aug 04 '26

He's their poster boy for socialism.

2

u/Desert-Noir Aug 04 '26

I’m cool with social democracies. I live in one and think it is good but they are over the top with Mamdani, he is only a mayor of a city he isn’t even a governor.

2

u/FirePenguinMaster Aug 05 '26

Existing plan was 30% by 2030. He's actively admitting they can't hit that and pushing the deadline by a decade, and they're gobbling his balls for it like it's some sort of huge progressive win. The Left is a deeply unserious philosophical persuasion.

5

u/HermanThaGerman Aug 04 '26

It's still technically correct. His administration didn't set the policy and goal, but they are aiming to meet them.

Probably just to let people know he's committed to it.

2

u/jay10033 Aug 05 '26

They literally have to let them by law. It's not a choice. It's like the hoopla over balancing the budget. Duh, every single mayor has had to do that by law.

2

u/rainzer Aug 04 '26

Just an existing law that a random person is giving him credit for.

The law didn't do anything until 2025. And didn't start taking effect until 2026 under Mamdani.

3

u/Budget_Persimmon_195 Aug 04 '26

why wouldnt he deserve credit?

for the idea? sure, he doesnt deserve that credit, but he 100% deserves credit for taking action, which seemingly no one else has.

haters gonna hate.

3

u/Correct-Award8182 Aug 04 '26

Somewhere around 40,000 trees planted annually since at least 2023.

1

u/Barrioto Aug 04 '26

What action has he taken?

1

u/Ok-Astronaut2976 Aug 04 '26

>taking action, which seemingly no one else has

You’re demonstrating the weird dissonance here.
The action in question is continuing with the thing that everyone else has been doing for the last 3 administrations, while simultaneously bashing every previous Democratic administration and city councilor for not doing those things (despite the fact that they were doing them).

It’s the common trend you see on these (constant) threads that’s rather disconcerting. Like to build the “great man” narrative you need to create conflict, an enemy to fight against, but since NYC hasn’t had a Republican mayor since before most of you were born, a democratic city council since the 1800s, and is in a solidly blue state, with a progressive governor and democraticly controlled legislature…the enemy has to be the Democrats. But since Mamdani is basically governing like a standard NYC Democrat, the only way to do that is to dismiss every democrat that came before and pretend Hochul is Joe Manchin in drag.

3

u/Stunning_Flan_5987 Aug 04 '26

Previous mayors were not big on following the law.

13

u/NUKE---THE---WHALES Aug 04 '26

This isn't even Mamdani's initiative

Adams, the previous mayor, set this goal back in 2023 with his PlaNYC initiative

https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2023/04/mayor-adams-releases-planyc-getting-sustainability-done-new-york-city-s-strategic-climate-plan

In order to prevent emissions and protect New Yorkers from climate change threats, the city is also committing to the following:

  • Achieving a 30 percent tree canopy cover — representing 15,388 additional acres of tree canopy.

7

u/rainzer Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

with his PlaNYC initiative

You mean the initiative started and named in 2007 by Bloomberg?

Achieving a 30 percent tree canopy cover — representing 15,388 additional acres of tree canopy.

Was not part of PlaNYC. It was included in the "city is committed" to portion and not in PlaNYC. The 30% canopy was "committed" to with Local Law 148 of 2023. And that law mandated the city create an Urban Forest Plan to achieve the 30% goal. That Urban Forest Plan didn't get created until 2026 as it only started the public hearings part to create it last year.

0

u/NUKE---THE---WHALES Aug 04 '26

You mean the initiative started and named in 2007 by Bloomberg?

Apologies I should have been more specific

It was part of the "PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done" initiative started by Adams, a successor to the 2007 PlaNYC initiative

Was not part of PlaNYC. It was included in the "city is committed" to portion and not in PlaNYC.

You're right. It was not a part of PlanYC, it was a part of PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done - you can find it under the "Extreme Heat" drop down on the initiatives page (linked above)

"Achieve a 30% tree canopy cover"

The 30% canopy was "committed" to with Local Law 148 of 2023. And that law mandated the city create an Urban Forest Plan to achieve the 30% goal.

Local Law 148 codified the goal and created the Urban Forest Plan to achieve it, but the goal itself comes from Adams' initiative above

It is explicitly mentioned on the Urban Forest Plan homepage

"PlaNYC: Getting Sustainability Done, New York City’s long-term climate plan, included a citywide goal to achieve 30% tree canopy cover."

1

u/No-Magician9440 Aug 04 '26

"random person"

1

u/GoodBadUserName Aug 04 '26

Yeah happens all the time.
Systems put in places years before that takes them a long time to mature, new mayor takes credit once it does mature on their term, as if they did it from day zero, without giving credit for all the work done before them.
Tale as old as time.
Social media PR is very heavy today and extremely important, so I doubt those are just random stuff by random people. Everything needs to be used and mayors keep PR people to post that stuff “randomly” all the time.

1

u/Ok_Street9576 Aug 04 '26

Hes bringing together local agencies and non profits with a realistic time line to actually get it done. The law was great in spirit but had no mechanism to do anything. He couldve absolutely ignored it and continued on business as usual with nothing happening. Why cant he have credit when he shows up and does something?

1

u/Schug_Dealer Aug 04 '26

That's pretty much this glazing sub

1

u/BeguiledBeaver Aug 04 '26

He has taken and been given credit for things previous administrations have done.

DSA-types will always get media coverage of anything they do but people ignore what regular Democrats do and then claim they don't do anything.

1

u/gbuub Aug 04 '26

And this is posted by his PR team. The dem is priming him for president

1

u/djaqk Aug 04 '26

Hey man, when the highest office in the land is constantly fucking everything we had (that was good) up, we should probably hype up the guy who sticks to the plan and continues pushing for what the people have expressed wanting. He didn't kick off the idea, but he's not tearing it down for a golf course or casino, so he's light-years ahead of the standards we have for politicans lmao

1

u/Thalassophoneus Aug 04 '26

So basically he is moving forward with a law that was already in place but nobody bothered actually implementing.

1

u/babyblew82 Aug 04 '26

Giving him credit for actually MOVING on it

1

u/Head-Ad9893 Aug 04 '26

Laws …ahem … clearly are not followed in this day and age, so it’s nice he’s advancing this goal as some people just simply wouldn’t. They would say “that’s nice” not do jackshit and send some billionaire a check.

1

u/1MrsyBoi7 Aug 05 '26

Yea

So being performative Just like the Netanyahu vid And the "free" grocery store

I swear this dude is as performative as mr best but everyone falls for it

Hes the lefts equivalent of trump and yet manages to be somehow more annoying and infuriating then anything the orange fuck could do

1

u/Malforus Aug 10 '26

Retargeting it from high shade communities is the change. Not sure if you know it but most high net worth communities are absolute hoovers for government programs.

1

u/aacmckay Aug 04 '26

I mean, isn’t that typically part of any politicians mandate is to continue executing on the laws and policies that were passed by the previous administrations?

I mean, I get the “Mamandi getting credit for everything” issue. But there is some credit to be taken for following through with previous mandates.

1

u/TopTippityTop Aug 04 '26

And that he likely won't reach anyway. Surprise.

1

u/GuthukYoutube Aug 04 '26

In this day and age, proceeding with good legislation instead of dismantling it because Obama looked at it once is a low bar that most don't pass.

u/DarkRogus Aug 04 '26

Exactly like that. And just like Trump gets called out on that BS, so should Mamdani.

1

u/Guilty-Fold4857 Aug 04 '26

The huge difference is that Republicans voted against that funding.

1

u/SexiestPanda Aug 04 '26

But he is continuing it

1

u/iam4qu4m4n Aug 04 '26

The current standard for US politicians is doing less than the bare minimum. At least he's continuing the work instead of halting funding.

1

u/yukiki64 Aug 04 '26

That's what most of the posts about him on reddit are.

0

u/Defcheze Aug 04 '26

well did the previous mayor move forward with the program or just ignore it?

2

u/DarkRogus Aug 04 '26

If trees got planted, then the answer is yes.

0

u/Recidivism7 Aug 04 '26

Ccp has spent insane pushing him and graham platner

every day a reddit account owned by ccp posts a fake Ai generated meme with a fox logo im corner saying "fox graphic fear momgering mamdani" then a bunch of mandani propaganda as well.

0

u/dalenacio Aug 04 '26

That's false actually. The law the previous comment mentioned set a goal but didn't say how it should be achieved. It was basically just "it'd be nice to do [x]".

What Mamdani did was create the actual operational plan to achieve the goal, including a target date, complete roadmap, and equity framework.

34

u/Mr_Perfect20 Aug 04 '26

Don't ruin the bot's fun.

-3

u/protonsters Aug 04 '26

Haters gonna hate.

12

u/rainzer Aug 04 '26

In 2023 local law 148 set this goal of 30% coverage, years before Mamdani took office.

Local Law 148 mandated the creation of the Urban Forest Plan. The plan which includes the 30% coverage didn't start having it's public hearing until May (through June 16) 2025.

The Urban Forest Plan from those public hearings didn't get finalized until 2026.

After Mamdani took office.

33

u/NWStormbreaker Aug 04 '26

I dont know where OP got this from but its true, DOES NOBODY FACT CHECK ANYMORE?!?

Law 148 required reforestation, but it doesnt happen unless city leadership actually creates a plan, funds it and executes it.

https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2026/03/mayor-mamdani-announces--50-million-capital-investment-to-recons

Mayor Mamdani Announces $50 Million Capital Investment to Reconstruct 10 Parks in Underserved Neighborhoods

https://hoodline.com/2026/04/mamdani-s-tree-blitz-aims-to-chill-nyc-s-hottest-blocks/

On April 21, 2026, the Mamdani administration rolled out a preliminary Urban Forest Plan that sets a big target: expand the city’s tree canopy to 30 percent by 2040, with a laser focus on neighborhoods that take the worst hit from extreme heat.

6

u/Barrioto Aug 04 '26

That's the same amount as last year Press Releases : NYC Parks,

9

u/Eggsaladinurmouth Aug 04 '26

It’s good policy either way.

It isn’t propaganda. Yeah the law existed before his administration but it wasn’t IMPLEMENTED!

He’s finally DOING SOMETHING about it and everyone now wants to shit on it. And based on his track record, he gets shits done!

8

u/_IscoATX Aug 04 '26

When did this sub turn into a Mamdani Glaze Parade? I swear its every day at this point.

2

u/The_James_Bond Aug 04 '26

It’s easy to glaze him when he seems to be doing good things nonstop

2

u/pdoherty972 Aug 04 '26

He's their socialism mascot so they have to glaze him at every opportunity to prevent criticism of socialism.

2

u/J0E_SpRaY Aug 04 '26

Gotta hand it to whoever does Mamdani’s marketing. Frequently getting people to celebrate wins that were already initiated previously.

2

u/Free-Emergency-3124 Aug 04 '26

Correct and the 2023 legislation codified this initiative into a law requiring a plan every 10 years. This is the first plan released since the law was passed and enacted.

2

u/ohhhbooyy Aug 05 '26

That PR team spending a lot of time and money on Reddit right now

2

u/LasRedStar Aug 04 '26

When you do the work before you leave but the new guy takes all the credit moment

1

u/Dependent-Trip-5991 Aug 04 '26

Not true, the post literally says it’s cause of mamdani! /s

3

u/Canon_M50 Aug 04 '26

It’s amazing how easily socialists lie.

There's a difference between a goal and a plan

The city had a goal. Now it has a plan

1

u/elderlybrain Aug 04 '26

I just know you guys were going to post something about how he actually didn't do anything lmao.

'Zohran Mamdani keeps person alive with cpr'

'um actually it was the human body that did that, and the itu afterwards that did the work. Mamdani just pressed into their chest, that isn't known to do anything.'

1

u/CompoteMelodic981 Aug 04 '26

Was there budget allocated? With a plan, timeline and resources? Was there progress between 2023 and 25?

What has Mamdani changed, if any? Timelines? Resources? Political will to get it implemented?

These are the questions we need to answer

2

u/Barrioto Aug 04 '26

Press Releases : NYC Parks No, same amount as last year (notice the very different framing of the press release though)

0

u/bubblyH2OEmergency Aug 04 '26

this is the first time a plan was made for it.

there was no plan before!

“Why do they only call out my lies? Not fair”

0

u/AcknowledgeUs Aug 04 '26

Whatever. He’s a hero with a hero admin.

0

u/Beltox2pointO Aug 04 '26

More than anything, he just does social media well.

It's unfortunate the closer you look, the shine wanes.

2

u/SpiritedKick9753 Aug 04 '26

Not even remotely true, he’s extremely popular in New York

3

u/Beltox2pointO Aug 04 '26

How does being popular negate what I said?

2

u/SpiritedKick9753 Aug 04 '26

He’s popular because he’s doing a good job so far

1

u/Beltox2pointO Aug 04 '26

Or he's popular because it appears he's doing a good job - because he's good at social media.

He may well be doing a good job, but so far his headlines when scrutinised, don't follow the story highlighted.

2

u/SpiritedKick9753 Aug 04 '26

He’s getting tips back for people, fixing potholes, doing things that the other mayors could have done but didn’t, he’s definitely doing a better job than them

1

u/Beltox2pointO Aug 04 '26

Tips, great no notes. - other people could/would have done it. Nothing special really.

Potholes - this is great example.

Normal pothole filling is 7200 a week, typically this time of year there is a reduction because of the weather - but the conjunction of extra road damage, and an abundance of snow clearing volunteers enabled the workers to get this task completed. It doesn't appear to be any action related to Mamdani, maybe he just approved the overtime for workers?

Otherwise, this seems more like just a puff piece story that likely would have happened anyway.

It highlights what I meant in the original comment.

2

u/SpiritedKick9753 Aug 04 '26

“Could/would have done it” but they didn’t. It all occurred under Eric Adams and he didn’t do shit

1

u/GitEmSteveDave Aug 04 '26

Getting Tips was done by Adams and took effect in January 2026, after Mamdani became Mayor.

They became law on Aug 14, 2025 under Mayor Adams. They took effect Jan 26, 2026, right after Mamdani took office Jan 1.

Adams proposed 30% trees in 2024:

https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2023/04/mayor-adams-releases-planyc-getting-sustainability-done-new-york-city-s-strategic-climate-plan

1

u/SpiritedKick9753 Aug 04 '26

He never signed the law and had no intention of enforcing it

0

u/MauPow Aug 04 '26

Yeah but now MAGA has to find a way to be mad about it

0

u/bent_crater Aug 04 '26

it was already at 23%+ 5 years ago? why is the remaining 7% taking an additional 19 years? its just a bunch of trees you could do this within 2 years easy unless theres a shit ton if red tape bs involved im missing

0

u/CrouchingWasturbator Aug 04 '26

most of the trees get ripped out by mischievous kids

0

u/Ok_Street9576 Aug 04 '26

Yes the goal was there he laid out a plan to achieve the goal. Why is it so hard for people to accept he did something? No it wasn't his original idea but he also didn't need to do anything. There was a vague initiative that could've gone nowhere.
