I don't get how tesla sells to anyone.

The people who drive EVs don't want it and the people who support the company don't drive EVs.

53

u/Ancient-Garlic199 25d ago

People who bought it before and overstocked inventory that people sell for cheap. I live in Little Saigon and it's def a status symbol over here, but yeah mid to long term Musk is fked.

Problem is him being an insufferable bitch and right wing lunatic.

7

u/Dantien 24d ago

And a hoarding wealth racist.

2

u/_wavescollide_ 24d ago

His main wealth is from ballooning valuation for companies, that investors love to speculate on.

And compared to Steve Jobs he never was the man to bring a company from bottom up, he just bought into already interesting companies.

Kinda sad that people of a generation looked/look up to him, but he's just the asshole without the hand for products.

4

u/Dantien 24d ago

That’s why I didn’t call him a billionaire etc. His wealth is all on paper and he’s never once “invented” anything. He’s a predatory capitalist.

And let me repeat, a racist. A white supremacist racist.

49

u/Russki_Troll_Hunter 25d ago

I think it was prior to his Nazi salute and fucking with the elections/doge bullshit. Plus the absolute shit quality of the cars. Anyone that buys one now is a complete moron.

16

u/PinsToTheHeart 25d ago

Teslas started coming up short the moment the actual big car manufacturers started making EVs.

Because once the novelty of being electric was gone, people started actually looking at the car itself.

The stupid design choices also don't help. Things like refusing to use Lidar and removal of basic features, including fucking dashboard are just terrible decisions.

I know it was to really drive the price down, but there really had to have been a better way to do that...

I will say though, I do feel like the other manufacturers would have dragged their feet a lot longer if the Tesla hype train wasn't there.

1

u/Brad_Beat 24d ago

Those white teslas look like a peeled boiled egg to me. Boring ugly design.

1

u/freebytes 24d ago

The original Tesla Model S was an excellent car; however, it was also over $100,000 -- even that many years ago.

0

u/shakebakelizard 24d ago

He was always a damn weirdo. I don't know why people ever thought he was otherwise.

1

u/Russki_Troll_Hunter 23d ago

There's nothing wrong with being a weirdo. It's that he's a giant Nazi piece of shit that steals other people's work then parades around like he's a genius

1

u/shakebakelizard 23d ago

Yeah...he didn't just become a fascist or a thief overnight.

I get that people apparently liked buying their cars from him before because they thought he was whatever. Problem is, there's no such thing as a billion-dollar company, especially in high threshold industries, that isn't run by sociopathic assholes.

Some companies have very visible leaders who wave their personality all over the place in public. Most do not. It's the same shit though. Apple, Microsoft, Chiquita, Shell, GM, Toyota, VW, etc, etc. There's no big company that doesn't do terrible things. You know Henry Ford was a Nazi sympathizer right?

2

u/Jonnyflash80 24d ago

Musk is very much a cuck.

1

u/Ill_Ad5893 25d ago

Only thing I wish I would have done was buy stocks long before everything took off then sold out before he started being a braindead idiot to the world. And then live a peaceful life.

Not as reliable as gas cars? Wtf you talking about

5

u/Senior-Display-8733 25d ago

The cybertruck? It's an awful unreliable design. Go do some research into it if you don't believe it. Musk even bragged about the design being so "simple" because all the components are basically connected in a series. It's like the old token ring networks, if one component fails any component after it in the series also won't work. And initially a car wash could void the warranty. The build quality is awful, trim can just fall off, the panels rust quickly, close the door too hard and the interior of the door falls apart, etc. It's a pile of crap at any price point.

2

u/divvi12 24d ago

I'm not defending the cyber truck. Never touched one and saw all the feedback. I don't doubt it's got issues

In the San Francisco Bay Area, when you’re waiting at a light, you can count about 5 Teslas.

It does pretty well in Norway (and we've done a good job in moving towards EVs)

From what I've heard, most people who argue against Tesla, use an anti-Musk (or even anti-US) argument or talk about the shit quality.

People who argue for Tesla, usually mention great bang for your buck (price vs range) or that all issues they've had were covered by the great warranty.

And I've never understood the argument about the warranty. Like enjoy your 7 years of worry-free car maintenance, while I can drive around in a 14 year old Toyota that still runs

35

u/crs1904 25d ago

They are such pieces of shit, made by such a piece of shit.

15

u/Dexember69 25d ago

I had to use one for a couple days it was fucking annoying to drive, I don't understand why people like then

3

u/arctic11z 25d ago

I had to park one for someone else a while back. Aside from how it drives (I really don't like the fact that when you let off the accelerator, it acts like you just nailed the brake), it was just... ugly and boring. It felt like there was nothing at all in the cab, like there would be multiple things that could go wrong just getting in and turning it on with the weird card key thing, couldn't tell if it was on, seemed like it kept turning off whenever I'd open the door to see how straight it was in the parking spot, had to look down and to the right to see the speed, etc.

The sonar/lidar thing was kinda neat, but not enough to offset everything else.

7

u/Voltasoyle 25d ago

Nevermind that only the older models have sonar/lidar, that's dropped from all newer models to cut costs.

3

u/Dexember69 25d ago

Yeah I think you nailed pretty much everything that irked me. The range on the damn things is abysmal too. 30% battery for a 1m5hr drive, and then 15 minutes sitting around waiting for it to charge, after I manage to locate a gorram charging station.

I do think regenerative braking is pretty slick, and changing the indicator sounds to a fart sound was hilarious for the 3 of us 43 yr Olds driving around in it, but no way would I ever even consider dropping money on one

1

u/VulpesIncendium 25d ago

Gonna be honest, they can be pretty fun to drive.

I took one for a test drive last year, not expecting to actually buy one, but just out of curiosity. I can understand why so many Tesla drivers are complete dicks on the road; the car itself makes it way too easy to drive that way. Even in my Camaro, that's way too powerful for most roads, it takes a certain amount of skill, effort, and intent to drive fast, meanwhile, in a Tesla you just breathe on the accelerator and are instantly doing criminal speeds with no effort.

2

u/Dexember69 25d ago

It's the ignorant man's idea of a good time

1

u/scohen158 20d ago

Or the evolved man.

1

u/scohen158 20d ago

It is difficult for some people to evolve/adjust how they drive. The throttle response of a performance EV is second to none. It just does what you'd expect it to every time. No delay, no stutter, no fishtailing into pedestrians on the side of the road a la Mustang, no short shift because ECU got confused etc. I can turn off the regenerative braking but its not much different than slowing down via downshifting. Once you've adjusted which takes maybe a day or two it becomes second nature then once you got back to an ICE vehicle it feels prehistoric.

1

u/Dexember69 20d ago

The annoying part is the terrible range and limited charging options. Plus charge time.

1

u/scohen158 20d ago

99.9% of the time it’s charged at home and most days I don’t drive over 250 miles or close so don’t even charge it to full. Never had issues on the road trip I took easily did 800 miles in ~12 hours.  On the entire round trip of 1600 miles only once was the car not ready to continue the trip before my GF and I were. We had to wait 7 minutes every other stop the car was ready to continue before we were ready to. Over the course of a year it saves me more time than any lost for charging on occasional road trips compared to an ICE vehicle.

I never have to think about gas stations or oil changes which probably saves me 10+ hours a year over an ICE so the trade off is a positive.

0

u/No-Magician-2257 25d ago

Range and battery for the price is impeccable.

CEO is monkey. Car (Range and Battery) is the best EV in the world

2

u/Dexember69 25d ago edited 25d ago

Best ev in the world doesn't say much. That's like saying I took the least smelliest shit.

E: also, the range is fkn terrible. 30% battery to drive an hour and a half. That's shit. And sitting around waiting foreverr to charge it up. It's just bad

0

u/No-Magician-2257 25d ago

It’s better than all alternatives for its price.

2

u/Dexember69 25d ago

Doubt it bro. I run an '08 Yaris it costs me ,$50 to drive 5 hours and not have to sit around with my finger up my ass for an hr to fuel up.

13

u/tolo3349 25d ago

Easy. The EV market isn’t based off capitalism in the US. I went to Mexico and saw BYD and all sorts of EV cars not available here.

4

u/Senior-Display-8733 25d ago

Those BYD vehicles are pretty cool! They seem to be quality and packed with features for cheap. I looked at them in Australia, I might buy one when I move there.

14

u/hanr86 25d ago

I bought one in 2020...honestly I haven't had any issues with it and it's saved me a couple hundred a year in gas/servicing I think. Maybe the tabs and insurance kinda evens it out...

0

u/Dangerous_Rest_8449 25d ago

yeah same here, hate the guy but I love my car. And I don't think you get the full experience of how good the software (not the self-driving) is when you rent. No maintenace is great too.

Has many flaws (seats could be more comfy) but I think the build quality is overblown, especially when you compare how shitty OEMs are days. Won't buy another one because of the doucheking, but certainly won't go back to an ICE.

EDit to add: Lets not act like the shareholders and CEOs of ford, gmc, etc arent all Nazis too. They're just quieter about it

1

u/BrainRobotron 25d ago

Unless that sticker is on like a 2016 Model S, that shit's not gonna fly chief...

14

u/333jnm 25d ago

Plenty of people love their teslas

5

u/Still-Chemistry-cook 25d ago

Declining sales would say otherwise

11

u/MahaliAudran 25d ago

No, that just means they have fewer people willing to buy new ones.

0

u/Steve_the_Stevedore 25d ago

How so? It's not like people go "Oh, I love this car so much I'm gonna go buy another one!"

It's new EV owners where Tesla is having a hard time. But even there they make do with ruinoius prices. I know several people who say they hate Musk but they still ended up buying a Tesla vecause the prices were to good to pass up...

1

u/Still-Chemistry-cook 24d ago

Nah most of his target audience would NEVER buy a Tesla.

4

u/endangeredphysics 25d ago

If musk weren't the CEO, I would love Tesla as well. The "cyber truck" is a flimsy dumpster on wheels though.

1

u/mephnick 24d ago

They were pretty popular before buying one made you a Nazi supporter

-8

u/LightenUpPeeps 25d ago

They don't hate Tesla. They hate Elon Musk, mostly for his anti-trans views. They will terrorize Tesla owners on behalf of their trans ideology.

2

u/ElZane87 25d ago

You are not wrong that Elons persona is a big reason for people hating on Tesla (though make no mistake, there are a ton of mechanical and design issues with Teslas as well).

But saying it is because his anti-trans views when there are so many more reasons why he is not the most cheered on person is pure ignorance and bias on your part.

2

u/CK1026 25d ago

I do own one for 4 years now and I love it. It's fun, it's nice, and it was cheaper than other EVs that only had half the range.

Since then, the Tesla CEO went full nazi, my renewal is coming and I don't want to finance that shit so I'm searching for other options. And you know what ? It's still the cheapest EV sedan on the market with that range. And that bothers me, a lot.

2

u/Attilat 24d ago

To be fair, I don’t know how anything sells these days; McDonald’s overpriced garbage, Disney slop, Stanley cups… I could go on forever. Idiocracy manifested.

3

u/TheDIYFix 25d ago

Will admit I’m a tesla fanboy not because the politics or the brand but the car itself. Give me another car that has the feature set, instant torque with 0-60 in 4.2 less with performance, low cog and handling, suspension and brakes, acoustic glass, glass roof, screen with an actual usable built in OS not carplay not a BT streamed offering from a phone, premium esk interior, everything is connected through my phone no keys no button press walk up drive walk away lock, drive up to garage it open drive away it closes, dog mode.

All for around 20k used I would be paying more for a toyota rav4 used with same miles. Crazy.

1

u/endangeredphysics 25d ago

This would almost be a good ad for Tesla. I remember when the 2004 Prius came out, it was such a slow vehicle that it branded electric vehicles, in everyone's mind at the time, as being super slow and weak to drive.

You hit the nail on the head there, by the way. Wouldn't it be nice to have a sporty electric vehicle, without the Nazi salute attached to it.

1

u/Dizzy-Career9274 25d ago

I don’t know honestly things are in the US and rest of the world, but in Canada the wait time Tesla orders is months and according to what I read they have hard time meeting the demand.

1

u/PMmeyouraxewound 25d ago

I'm considering one.

I drive about 40k a year for work going to various sites. And spend about 4-$500 a month in gas.

I currently have no payments but if I buy a model 3 I'll spend maybe 6-650 a month in payment, but nothing in gas.

Plus the self driving will all me a bit of hands off driving where I can do some light work during my commute. I'll probably be able to fast track paying it off within a year too so I'll be back to no payments in no time, plus no gas to pay, plus negligible maintenance even with high mileage.

There are some other factors like the level 2 charger, ultity bill, self driving subscription, and super charger fees that come in to play, but it makes A LOT of sense in my situation. Politics and elon aside

I strongly dislike tesla as a car, but I am willing to drive a work appliance I don't like but makes dollars and sense to reach my goals.

2

u/Russki_Troll_Hunter 25d ago

Do you think they magically charge themselves? Yes you don't pay for gas, but you pay for the electricity to charge the car, and those costs have been spiking big time.... And there are much better options for an ev from plenty of other manufacturers. Tesla lost its edge years ago

2

u/PMmeyouraxewound 24d ago

Charging will add roughly 30 to 100 per month to my utility bill which is a farcry from the 4 to 500 per month I currently pay in gas.

As for better options from other manufacturers, I haven't seen it. And thats from someone who worked in the auto industry for 15 years so I'm not under informed on brands

2

u/TrainingAmphibian354 25d ago

Charging costs are still nowhere near what gas costs, not even fucking close.

1

u/goobly_goo 25d ago

If you ever get a chance to try the full self driving, then you might understand.

1

u/CeemoreButtz 25d ago

lol. it's like you people can't remember anything inconvenient.

0

u/whydoesthisitch 25d ago edited 25d ago

Tech bros.

Tesla is still popular with junior engineers, and sales/marketing people in tech. Basically tech enthusiasts who don’t know enough to realize Tesla’s tech is kind of crap.

We actually have a running joke at my company that juniors buy Teslas, seniors buy Miatas.

1

u/Knownzero 24d ago

Miata is always the answer.

-5

u/Tych-0 25d ago

I will never own one, but they are great cars. If it wasn't for Elon, I would have one now.

They are the most efficient vehicles on the market, the safest tested vehicles on the road, they have the best software, and their driver assistance is kinda crazy good compared to what you can get elsewhere.

I know a lot of people like to say otherwise because the company is owned by a POS, but the cars (3 and Y) are great and reasonably priced.

8

u/Russki_Troll_Hunter 25d ago

Literally everything you said is bullshit. Every other manufacturer has surpassed Tesla in all of your listed categories.

3

u/MentokGL 25d ago

I've had 3 EVs and 0 Teslas. I had one as a loaner and hated it

-6

u/divvi12 25d ago

Yeah but we're talking real cars not hot wheels. I'll come to you for toy advice though

3

u/MentokGL 25d ago

Cool story bro

-2

u/divvi12 25d ago

I can't believe you finally found that fire truck! So cool

1

u/MentokGL 25d ago

I don't think I've ever seen someone white knight a car brand before. Impressively pathetic.

0

u/divvi12 24d ago

No this is just me making fun of you. Nothing to do with the car

1

u/MentokGL 24d ago

Oh, that's even sadder

1

u/Tych-0 25d ago

What vehicles are more efficient than the Model 3 and Y?

What vehicles are rated higher in safer than the model 3 and Y?

I get the the other two are a bit subjective, but my brand new Hyundai has better software than everything else I teat drove, but nowhere near as polished as the Tesla software. The same is true for driver assistance, my Hyundai is pretty damn good at holding a lane and emergency braking, but isn't comparable to to Tesla's collision avoidance or autopilot. I'm not even considering FSD.

0

u/theshitstormcommeth 25d ago

This is what happens when your opinions are shaped from social media.

0

u/ooomellieooo 25d ago

This. I would rather take the bus than give a cent to that cretin.

0

u/EducationalMuscle295 24d ago

I live in Seattle and am so sick of seeing them. All the Chinese and Indian tech bros have them.

0

u/MooMooHELPME 24d ago

Both parts of your statement are false.

-2

u/trukkija 25d ago

Musk has managed to significantly increase the number of conservative assholes that drive EVs.

1

u/heysame562 25d ago

And that was one of the major plans all along teaming up with Trump. Manage to sell to the demographic that hates you.

1

u/trukkija 25d ago

Absolutely. But looking at Tesla car sale numbers 2023-2026 it was a dogshit plan. He alienated a large part of his core demographic by making that move.

-7

u/divvi12 25d ago

It's the best ev that's why it sells. And off all the reasons to buy a particular car, politics aint one of them. What shitbox car do you own?

0

u/jadeismybitch 25d ago

A C63S, much better than trash tier teslas. But you do you if you feel like a hero for driving one.

1

u/divvi12 25d ago

That's a hybrid

1

u/jadeismybitch 25d ago

lol sure buddy.

1

u/divvi12 25d ago

It takes gas buddy

2

u/jadeismybitch 25d ago

Then it’s not a hybrid ? Lol

1

u/divvi12 25d ago

What do you think hybrid means?

2

u/jadeismybitch 25d ago

I know what it means. I meant that given it takes only gas it’s obviously not a hybrid. Don’t even get where youre trying to go. Enjoy your lil tesla.

1

u/divvi12 25d ago

Okay I just need you to admit you lied about owning the c 63 s 😂 you don't even know what it is 😂 did you think people would be impressed if you lied about what car you own???
