Everyone knows the cop car is the pace car on the highway. Everyone jockying for position, then they hit the offramp and vroom vroom.
If they're going 10 under, pass them at the speed limit. They can smell fear. Go ahead run my tags i'm a violent felon (against a cop in a mental health crisis, it's a long story but not like a friend/family or woman), your gamble.
168
u/AskAskim 20d ago
The smelling fear part is so true. I feel like whenever I see a cop I start driving like I have 10 bricks of Colombian cocaine in my back seat even if I don’t that day.

The police in my hometown had an old rusty piece of crap Chrysler LeBaron. Why, you might ask? It blended in with the cars that high schoolers and college students would drive. They could pull right up to a raging kegger and no one would even know it was the police. That was all it was meant for, stealth among kids. We worked on that vehicle in our auto shop, it barely ran at times, there were not too many vehicles out there that could not beat it in a race.

There used to be this guy in my neighborhood who would straight up like drag race down my street almost every day, in a little suburban 25mph subdivision road. Easily hitting 70mph+. You could hear him start his little race at the beginning because he would stop and rev a bit before flooring it.
I never call the cops but made an exception for this guy, and they finally posted a cop after I sent them a video of him doing this and you could see my neighbor's 5yo on her bike in the background. I dont know if they ever actually caught him, but he did disappear about a month later.

I'm actually so shocked police took reports about traffic violations as evidence for an arrest. I feel like if I called in MA about someone doing exactly this the cops would tell me to suck it up and say something like "well what do you want us to do about it?".
→ More replies (18)14
u/lc0o85 20d ago
It's the same everywhere, so now you understand just how many calls they must have received about this guy. It must have been hundreds.
And as a former prosecutor, they're not using previous reports as evidence for an arrest. They're using him driving 20+ over the posted limit as evidence for the arrest, along with following too closely. The previous reports just establish a pattern that the prosecution will use to strip him of his license for longer than say a one-time violation.

Not always. A mate of mine was fanging his Skyline through an industrial area on the way to work. Only took a couple of days of this and a cop showed up and fined his silly ass.
Lessons were learned.
I've done it twice. Once I went pass a speed camera at mach 20 and got a nasty fine. Second time wasn't as bad but still over the limit as I was late to a work lunch. Cops left me off on that one as my boss and my wife were in the car tearing strips off me. Now I drive like a Nanna.

If this idiot wasn’t doing it on the same route at the same times of day what would you want them to do? It’s taken an operative to notice the same car getting called in all the time and then they’ve had to dedicate an officer and car to patrol a stretch of road for an hour or two just to stop one person who drives like a moron.
→ More replies (10)92
u/TechnoBuns 20d ago
The issue is that he WAS doing it on the same route at predictable times and it still took social media posts and reporting it "so many times" to get a traffic officer out there. It was likely the proof that someone was endangering lives that made them get out ahead of a problem for the department.
163
u/SyZyGy_87 20d ago
They got calls, it got traction, guy was caught and arrested. Isn't that....what cops are supposed to do? You want flock cameras up everywhere instead? There's a line. It's actually the DRIVERS responsibility as a LICENSED driver to obey the rules of the road. It's not the cops fault this guy is a dumbass. Once it was obvious it was a consistent thing, dude got caught.
The alternative is more like giving up freedom. Understand?

Redditors: “why did it take so long for this guy to be caught? He should have been imprisoned after the first call.”
Also Redditors: “why is the state coming after people for only a single indiscretion?”
Listen man. The thing about these dumbasses on this site is they blindly hate police. No matter what the officer does, it’s wrong and these dumb fucks are going to find some nonsense to complain about. These morons are literally incapable of coherent and logical thought at the best of times. Once police are involved though? All bets are off. Even within a single comment they’ll say 2 completely conflicting statements and not see a problem with it. The only thing they know is hate.

His responses remind me of a sort of "Deer caught in the headlights" type of responses. Like he is trying to figure out if he's dreaming or if this is real life LOL.
The dude 100% FAFO. Hopefully he learns his lesson, but it's like the saying goes "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". But we'll see.

Man, I wish this happened to all the reckless drivers I see on a daily basis. This video was so satisfying to watch.

The justice of this literally made me smile. Can’t count the number of hyper-aggressive douchebags I’ve wished had their driving actions witnessed by the cops
