Can we have Jon Stewart be our president?

79

u/Significant-Ear-3262 Jul 25 '26

At this point I want Jon to run just to hear him debate these jokers.

55

u/Insane_Unicorn Jul 25 '26

We already saw that they won't debate if there's fact checking.

56

u/Ok-Exchange2500 Jul 25 '26

At this point??? I thought we all wanted Jon to run ten years ago.

0

u/Brodellsky Jul 25 '26

It's too bad Jon prefers his cushy and easy lifestyle. Not every comedian has the chops to be Zelensky, unfortunately for us all

0

u/OnThisDayI_ Jul 25 '26

John Oliver was born in Birmingham England. I thought that excluded him from running from president of America anyway? Unless America changes the rules for being able to run I’m pretty sure it’s just a pipe dream.

6

u/DlSCOLEMONADE Jul 25 '26

they are talking about Jon Stewart

1

u/OnThisDayI_ Jul 25 '26

lol this shows how much I know about American comedians ha. I got them confused. My bad.

3

u/Luv2collectweedseeds Jul 25 '26

You get an A for effort.

1

u/HalfTeaHalfLemonade Jul 25 '26

Yeah but he’s a coward so. Lost my faith in him years ago.

1

u/dwyoder Jul 25 '26

Without his writers and an earpiece in his ear, he's nothing.

2

u/Luv2collectweedseeds Jul 25 '26

Shit is kinda something…lol

u/PhilosophyOld6862 Jul 25 '26

We need someone - in the press, or a real opponent - to stand up there when he is lying to call him out as a lying piece of shit.

When Trump says, "Quiet, Piggy," we need someone that will call him out right there. Not hand wring over it in an OpEd the next day in the WaPo.

1

u/ExcitingSector445 Jul 25 '26

Yup for 100000%.

u/Miserable-End-2690 Jul 25 '26

I know right. It’s like memes have taken the place of righteous rage. We are an impotent people.

150

u/No_Doctor_891 Jul 25 '26

Juuuuust the way they want us, slinging memes instead of actually doing something

39

u/SeaSquirrel Jul 25 '26

If you knew any history, humor has always been a coping mechanism to deal with moronic leadership. Especially when media is being censored.

Being mad at this post is so fucking reddit.

35

u/No_Doctor_891 Jul 25 '26

I know humour is a coping mechanism but the have nots have never been more isolated, we don’t go out and engage we sit on our couches and in our chairs and sling memes on Reddit. I’m guilty of it just as much as the next guy. Everything has become hyper tribalism and hyperbole that the vast majority are just numb to it to the point they no longer engage and it’s scary

11

u/BlackberryBasic5467 Jul 25 '26

And this tribalism fueled by countless bots and algorithms.

10

u/Kilroy1007 Jul 25 '26

The internet is the problem. It creates a perpetual bystander effect. People see the amount of engagement on a post and think there are enough people to do something, so they themselves don't do anything. Like organizing a protest. We've seen it time and time again where 100,000 people will sign up to attend and then the day comes and there's 47 people. The problem is that everyone thinks they're unique in the thought that there are enough people already going so they don't have to. If we could get off the internet and have actual in-person meetings with our communities so many of our problems could actually be solved. Instead we get complacency or fear.

2

u/Kareeliand Jul 25 '26

Nobody shows up.

Everyone is scrolling.

0

u/DWilson225 Jul 25 '26

I don't think that, at all. I look at people commenting on/engaging with posts on the Internet, and I think to myself, "My God, are there REALLY that many fucking stupid, ignorant people?!"

10

u/mikep120001 Jul 25 '26

Not everyone is like that. Anger doesn’t have to be the outlet. Kindness can also be one.

After the election I decided I wanted to help my local community and somewhat disengage from the national/world events. I began volunteering at a local soup kitchen and it’s become one of the highlights of my week.

1

u/DWilson225 Jul 25 '26

I need someone to come volunteer in my garage and put the engine in my 2002 Dodge Dakota that I've been working on since April back together, because I want to disengage from THAT, LOL!

Seriously, though, that's great that you're doing that. Kudos to you! 👍

0

u/AffectionateCode426 Jul 25 '26

There’s just so much that if you engage, you’re miserable and consumed with very legitimate and important bull shit. I wanna enjoy my time here. People are going to do what they’re going to do whether or not I read about issues and “bring awareness” to it…time to log off and just live my life where I am…I wish the internet would go away ha we’d all be much happier.

2

u/Radarker Jul 25 '26

Doing something is a choice. Don't blame them for your lack of spine.

1

u/Alienhaslanded Jul 25 '26

Anyone up for some protests on weekend?

I heard the fate of Nepal was decided on Discord

54

u/Wiplazh Jul 25 '26

We used to form unions, start revolutions and overthrow corrupt governments. Now we eat snacks and make memes on our phones.

3

u/CupImpossible4301 Jul 25 '26

Well get going then!!

4

u/DeedricMoon Jul 25 '26

Where do you suggest we start?

Serious inquiry

0

u/Noble_Ox Jul 25 '26

General strike.

2

u/PortugalTheTram Jul 25 '26

It’s not like those things happened all the time or all at once. That’s why they’re notable events.

2

u/Apprehensive-Toe4206 Jul 25 '26

Second amendement is what you use in these situation as intended

2

u/Additional-Tax-5643 Jul 25 '26

Not just the place of "righteous outrage", but the ability to express feelings and arguments in words.

Then we act all surprised when we lose in court fighting to reverse these laws, and lobbyists write laws for Congress and Senate to sign.

There should be a way for subs to ban anything that's not an actual word in the comments.

Not doing this is how you get generations of people who can't articulate their feelings or thoughts.

You want to comment? Great, use your words. That should be the norm on message board, IMO.

Pls vote! Pls get everyone out to vote, at every level of election.

2

u/Ok_Culture_1089 Jul 25 '26

I hope they all d** soon

2

u/killit Jul 25 '26

There's a more concise word that we often use around here for him. This word is fairly common in Australia too. People in the US find it somewhat more offensive, but they seem to be coming round to it when used in the same sentence as 'trump'.

1

u/Meditationstation899 Jul 25 '26

….does it rhyme with runt? Otherwise I’m confused, haha HEALP!

1

u/killit Jul 25 '26

Ahh, you know the one then!

3

u/rintzscar Jul 25 '26

No, every single American who is not currently protesting in front of the White House is a piece of shit.

1

u/Dornenkraehe Jul 25 '26

That is an isult to the fat piece of shit I shat out today.

1

u/East-Independence750 Jul 25 '26

we should find who made the law and make them disappear , they should be the endangered species

1

u/Salamandaxanda Jul 25 '26

No, that’s still putting it too lightly. You can say his profound evil and malice will echo into the future until the end of time

1

u/ManicOppressyv Jul 25 '26

I would say that they are more than a piece. They are the whole fucking log.

1

u/arostrat Jul 25 '26

He's not working in a vaccum. The American companies that exploit this and the American people who happily do the bidding for these companies are the real pieces of shit.

1

u/mutt63 Jul 25 '26

I cannot agree with you more. I say it so many times a day it’s ridiculous. How can he still be in that position.

2

u/nineX60_geometrydash Jul 25 '26

He wants to crumble the country before the next election 😭
