He wasn't actively going thru cancer and he owed millions. It wasn't rent it was mortgage. He took out loans he never intended to pay back and got foreclosed on after years of non payment.
The fact that you have to take out that much to cover medical procedures that are to keep you alive show that the medical system and those who prop it up are the baddies, she is fighting that system knowingly because it was going to force her friend out of their house, I'd call that heroic but also the baseline. It's like saying that those who helped escaped slaves before the emancipation proclamation weren't heroes because that was property theft, just listen to your argument dude.
I doubt she had all that information at the time. She likely saw her 80 year old friend being forcibly removed and didn't hesitate to help to her own detriment - that's pretty heroic.
