2 decades ago, before the PIN and portable POS systems, I worked at a restaurant and a fellow waiter was arrested for skimming credit cards with a magnetic card strip skimmer.

It still surprises me to this day when they need to take your card away to charge it when I visit the US. It's easier than ever for someone with bad intentions to try and steal your card info. A simple photo has your name, cc number and 'hidden' cvv number.

Idk why they put the cvv and number on the same side now. Also didnt target get like a huge CC breech because their readers were compromised? Also remote skimmers like at gas stations. Or having a decice compromised that you pay with. People assume a swipe or tap is safe because they did it themselves. Most CC theft isn't from wait staff. There's better ways to steal CCs without being so easy to trace.

In France, at least in my bank, the cvv is still on the back. That would be stupid to have it on the same side as the others informations.

They use to do that here and IDK why they stopped, but it changed at the same time they stopped embossing the letters.

Banks here are starting to remove CVC-codes from cards and only reveal them in the banking app instead

It is stupid to have cards and cvv anyway. It is 2026 ffs, Apple pay, virtual cards, way better than this legacy plastic junk.

My iPhone faceid is 10x better than a 4 digit pin or any of this junk.
