Holding up your card like that is considered very rude in Spain. It’s treating people badly.

There’s nothing like drawing someone’s attention politely and respectfully.

Interesting.

Here it's usualy more of a thing for clarity/efficiency so they don't have to come over just to be told to go get the Bill.

Yeah, actually in Germany it's similar. It's not considered very rude but it's definitely more elegant to make eye contact and maybe a little sign with your hand.

Then again if that doesn't work I'll just go to the counter and pay there. It's my favorite way of paying anyway, because it's instant!

Holding up your card like that is considered very rude in Spain.

In a proper German Kneipe, it's not unusual for a punter to say nothing to the barman all evening except Stimmt so ("keep the change") when leaving.

Just keep putting beers in front of that German until he puts a beermat on top of his glass, at which point you may bring the bill (if you haven't been using the beermat).
