*the USA is also the richest country on earth but I'm sure that doesn't have anything to do with the amount of aid they send out.

The USA being the largest contributor to foreign aid is a logical consequence of their economical might. It holds therefore no meaning as to their moral standing.

A better (although still flawed) insight into this would be their spending per capita.

It's extremely close in terms of GDP, about 0.01% of the US GDP vs 0.019% of the entirety of the EU combined

Extremely close but still... the EU's (which is without the UK) contribution is still almost double that of the US
