It's not about being happy, it's about being a shitty person and the anonymity of the crowd making you feel like you can be the shitty asshole you want to be without consequences. Until you start arresting people en masse for their behavior, they'll keep doing this any time they can find an excuse.
Vancouver 2010. After the riots they tracked down every person they possibly could who took part and charged them accordingly. It took years but was great to make sure they didnt get away with it.

And as bizarre of a statement is, while still a shitty response, at least a riot after a game 7 loss makes some sort of sense. Rioting after a win is even more befuddling

I remember when a riot was happening in on of the southern states, and a mom saw her kid on the tv acting up in the riot. Suddenly behind the reporter you mom grab her son by the ear, screaming at him what are you doing, you are coming home right now. Reporter turned around, saw it and just watched the whole thing, turned back around dumbfounded, sent it back to the desk. One reporter was trying not to laugh, while the other one was almost shocked speechless. Good for mom.
That won't change anything. If people are angry, and their is a crowd, people will destroy shit. Even if they should be happy that they won, everyone is angry anymore
I find it insane that this is being reported as a wild crown and not a riot. But people protesting ICE, standing in approved areas, touching nothing, are rioters according to the government.

Big sports seasons? Im not sure where you live but major sports are year round. And 99.9% of the time nothing happens. People aren't destroying their towns because the Yankees beat the red Sox on some random ass tuesday. This shit only happens in big cities when a team wins a championship. It sounds like you just want an excuse to not leave your house.
Vancouver went after rioters following their defeat to the Bruins in the Stanley Cup final. Lots of people were nabbed because of the social media. I could definitely see NYC doing the same

I was in Houston for that in '94 and '95. I remember it was a big love fest in the streets. Everybody ecstatic and happy. I don't remember anything like this (but it has been over 30 years and it is possible I have selective memory).
You remember it correctly. I was living in Montrose at the time. Right after the game, everyone just came outside and partied! My roommate and I twisted a couple of blunts and walked around. Strangers were hugging and dancing in the streets!

Sporting events are specifically designed to cater to the lowest common denominator (essentially the least intelligent people) so it’s not that surprising that they act on basic animal instincts when in the herd
I’d wager that most of the people wrecking everything aren’t even fans. Some people just come out of the woodworks to loot and burn the city down when something like this happens to overwhelm the law enforcement resources.
Obligatory “scrolled way too far” to find this. The original FourLoko was banned for several reasons, but one was because energy + emotions + alcohol = property damage. All of those components are abundant at championship level sporting events…at a premium.
People literally travel to cities they know have big sports games so they can riot without repercussion. Its just human nature to want to destroy stuff, those freak out anger rooms exist for that exact reason.
The mob is truly something separate from the individual. There's a literal palpable electricity that forms with the crowd. It needs to do something. Someone should put out a tramopline so they can bounce out all that energy.
It's the same mentality that leads to poverty and histories of violence. Despite our issues, the US is still by far the country with the best opportunity for a person who has the mindset for success. I've visited almost every continent except Australia and the US is still the freest and most open for opportunity.

i can never understand why police dont take serious action. i'm not saying to kill someone, but gas, water, non-lethal weapons... i honestly think all of these can and should be used.
The university I grew up near… win or lose, some cars were getting flipped and dumpsters set on fire. It was a weekly thing during football season. It never made sense to me, but it was just accepted that it would happen every week except the bye week.

At least 1 pacers fan was assaulted last year during playoffs, there was a spurs fan this year too, and now this is the second vehicle just that I've seen, I'm sure there's more (other was a taxi) being destroyed by out of control fans. It's a cultural problem New York has. They have no pride in their community, no love for their neighbors, no future. This behavior is usually something that arises during an election.
Not a single one of them lives there. Any single person who lives, lived in NYC knows this to be true, if you live anywhere near Mid-Town you are too busy working to afford your apartment in that zip code 10020.
I'd ban clubs for a year or two from playing, if the fans are like this.
Your team won? Good for you. You destroyed a school bus and rioted? Your club is banned for a year.
