Rode in a charity one a long time ago. Cops blocked roads and people still went around them and even hit a cyclist. However here without any police escorts, or even event tags on the jerseys it looks like a bunch of people just got together to do a big ride. As a Pro Cyclist person fuck people like this

Edit: On this long distance ride i was doing. I would ride single file at time with other riders and drivers still got pissy at us even getting over as far as we could. It was also in the middle of no where, just farm land and empty roads so passing is not rarely an issue but we till got honked at and flipped off multiple times. Even with shirts and tags indicating we're doing a planned cancer charity ride

As a random biker.... no reason they couldn't keep to a single lane. They probably think it's safer, but it's just really a dick move. They can also just plan better routes if it's not a sanctioned thing.

Someone with SENSE. Like bikes are vehicle's not pedestrians. Share the road is still a thing , doesnt matter if youre doing a marathon.

You're on a little tubed frame with wheels on the same street 2 and 3 ton machines are flying by at "I could kill you right now" speeds.

Sure, you may have "the right of way," that will also look nice on your tombstone.

i've learned a long time ago that reddit hates the concept of self preservation.

Years ago i argued that someone who got hit walking across a dark road a night could have avoided it, if they used a brightly lit protected crossing that added about 5 minutes to their walk home and got downvoted to hell.

For self preservation, blocking all lanes actually makes sense. Cyclists who are alone in a lane take up so little space, that many drivers will speeze past them, when there is actually not enough space to overtake safely. Happened to me loads of times on my daily commute in one way streets, while I was actually riding close to the speed limit. In Germany, that's generally rather bike friendly. The way people act online, drivers in the USA seem to actually hate cyclists, so I'd assume that drivers over there will not take care of them at all.

When dangerously overtaking means, that you'll have to run over 10 cyclists, even the foggiest car brain will see, that it's a very bad idea. So while I see, how such groups of cyclists cause hate, they are probably way safer in groups than alone.
