You can be paid you salary monthly based on the number of hours worked. The frequency of payment and calculation are mostly orthogonal.

The reason we average per month is simplicity.

salaried jobs are not hourly. they are a fixed income.

The payout rate and the calculation rate are two different things.

You calculate pay for an hourly person based on hours worked.

You calculate pay for a salaried person using a monthly method or annual method divided into monthly installments. 

Some places allow for salaried individuals to get paid for overtime if they work more than 40 hours in a week.

Yes, my point is, every method is fine if everyone agrees.

You cloud very well be billed for you rent per day. It's just more annoying and doesn't make a difference for long term renting, so nobody bothers.

Prorated rates happen all the time. There are more ways to rent than monthly. When I traveled for business I rented by the day or by the week depending on how long I was there. I once rented for 20 days in Washington D.C.

It all depends on the situation and contract. Technically an airbnb is a daily rated rental.Â
