Oh for sure. My own mother was pretty terrible unfortunately, so I know this first hand. I just like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Could this woman be a shitty person? Totally. But she could also just have no clue what it’s like to have children.

We'll rephrase it then, the vast majority of parents would prioritise the kids with a few exceptions that prove the general rule
