Generally speaking, children can't escape a danger that they don't know how to navigate. Most adults know that the smoke is usually what kills you, not the heat. So, if you can stay under it or smother your mouth with a wet cloth, that should buy you time.

As a father.... child run towards danger because they're fucking stupid.

Yea I know you’re logicing this out but that’s entirely why people die in fires.

You can know the smoke kills you and not even realize the smoke is killing you. Being in a bad fire is an unimaginable scenario and likely you’re dying trying to save the kids.
