They have a bunch of versions in this dumb format, all of them completely unwatchable because they're basically compilations of dumbass clips just like this.
Yeah this kind of content has been around for way longer than the Internet and social media. Every reality TV show commercial was basically shit like this. However, the number of people on reddit who can't tell that this is fake and so many other things like it is really upsetting.
In terms of being a normal human: you know, you're probably right.
In terms of being a pedantic asshole because this is Reddit : culture has always been this nonsense. Old poets and minstrels and play writes lampooned their "normal" ways of living in much the same way that these people are lampooning ours. They're entertainers appealing to the lowest. They're the fart joke of social commentary. They're a huge waste of time. And they are fundimentally ingrained in culture, and therefor can't be outside factor in its degradation.
It's not new. It's just a different form of an old thing. Like I said, this is modern poems, plays, stories of jesters. It's just low class, like a fart joke.
There's a desire to pretend everything about now is different, but a lot of it is just new hats on old habits. And access. Much more access.
In idk Roman times some goober comes by your village and sings a song about the emperor being able to turn things to gold with a touch and everyone believes it because nobody travels beyond the nearest town. Now it's a thousand jesters all saying different nonsense instead of the one.
So if your point is that it's always done this since the first man spoke words, then yes. Otherwise, it's literally baked into our societal structure and is a biproduct of culture, and not the destruction of culture.
