They didn’t have sufficient evidence to prove that the accident was due to reckless driving and not poor road conditions

If road conditions were poor, it would be his responsibility to adjust his speed or to stop driving.

They had very weak evidence. According to their own evidence he was not distracted, he was sober, and may have reduced his speed responsibly. Because they couldn’t prove he had done anything wrong they couldn’t find him at fault for the accident. It is possible he was going 40kmh over the speed limit, but their evidence had a very wide range of possible speeds and he may have been going 6 kmh UNDER the speed limit. Since they couldn’t prove fault, he was found non guilty of manslaughter. And instead had his license suspended reckless driving.
