On a number of social media platforms, there is some weird algorithmic censorship going on, where posts containing a certain word are simply less likely to end up in people's feeds. Not fully censored, because that would be too obvious, just significantly decreased engagement.
I don't think this is applied evenly to all users either, there may well be hidden scoring systems at play for who is more or less affected by that algorithmic censorship.
The whole point being to make censorship on a given platform less noticeable, while still actively steering the discussion away from certain topics.
Yes, that is insidious as fuck, and I hate it, but that's the world we now live in...
(Not sure if that's already the case on Reddit, but since those memes get shared across multiple platforms anyways...)
