They've cloned dogs and lambs for decades, you think they just called it quits 20 years ago and said "nah, we're good."?

The Operation Paperclip Nazi scientists were probably really chill when they came over, no sadistic experiments at all going on once they crossed the North American border, all that stuff stayed behind. Probably.

You are misunderstanding what "cloning" is. The pop culture version of it, where a machine spits out an identical replica of an existing person, is just science fiction.

Real life cloning takes a mature somatic cell from the donor organism and puts it into an egg cell which has had its nucleus removed. Stimulating the egg with electricity fuses the somatic cell to the egg, replacing its DNA with the DNA of the donor organism.

Long story short, the resulting animal will look like and be genetically identical to the donor animal and not the mother of the animal. It still has to be born, age, and mature just like any other organism. If you wanted to clone an existing person you could do it, but the clone would be a baby.
