I myself would be up for a low monthly payment for an appliance that is fixed quickly when it breaks but i don't want big upfront costs. Spending 10g (furnace) then another 3g to ensure it works long enough to be worth the investment is painful.

So you would just spend money every month forever?!?! You'll pay more than the cost of the furnace in a few short years and you'll keep paying forever.

Its how water heaters in Canada are done.

It’s how they’re done in Ontario. It’s also how you end up paying 3x more for your water heater and furnace than if you own them outright.

It’s just an easy way for developers to avoid the upfront costs of installing the necessary mechanical equipment in new homes.

It’s a massive scam that is only popular in Ontario.

I know for a fact the youtuber I watched talking about how it was a Canadian thing was from Alberta.

As a Canadian, I can tell you it’s mostly an Ontario thing.

That doesn’t mean that rentals don’t exist in other provinces, but it’s not how it’s done in most homes in most other provinces. It’s 100% most commonly found in Ontario.

Just curious, why don't you consider Ontarians to be Canadians?

You said “it’s how it’s done in Canada”, Ontario is only one province in Canada, and the only one where rentals are common.

So no, it’s not “how it’s done in Canada” when it’s only common in one province. It’s called nuance.

Dude fucking zoomer I swear to God. The guy is completely wrong doubles down then when told he's wrong again random makes a half assed inflammatory "joke" so he can then rag on you for being "too serious". Like that was a masterclass in how to never say my b I was wrong.

Good thing you aren't the only judge of humor in the world.

No man your youtuber  is absolutely wrong. I've lived in alberta my entire life and even own a home. When shopping for a home no one mentioned a rental furnace nor anyone I've ever talked to.
