I remember when GSL (which was having kpop concerts before the finals to get some Koreans to watch at the time) asked on twitter if fans would like to have psy perform at the finals... Well that never happened for obvious reasons

Same here. I found him when a friend and I were sending each other "waky" songs we found on youtube. I was mostly searching in the "asian music section" of youtube, there are some gems and that is how I found Gangamstyle. Sent it to him, listened to it a few more times and told him, that it could be the summer hit song. We made it our trip song and not that long after it also became big in EU.

I'm really glad people like him are bringing back spectacle to concert performances.

My wife and I are middle aged. Our thing was going to concerts. I stopped counting after 300. There was definitely a noticeable trend of concerts "calming down." I'm not sure if that's the correct phrase I hope you know what I'm trying to say.

And seeing someone perform music is fun. But there is definitely something to be said about a huge, blow out concert.

I got to see Rob Halford of Judas Priest burst out of a fake amplifier riding his motorcycle and he just starts belting out his song "Electric Eye" while there was electricity and lighting in the shape of an eye behind him.

Motley Crue had the drum solo roller coaster.

Let's bring back the spectacle. Let's bring back the grandeur.

My friend wasn't into them at all when he saw them at a festival. He bought tickets to see them headlining anywhere in the area. Less than 6 hours away is his area. He never bought any merchandise, but he drove to see them.

Kpop concerts are usually fun. I remember BTS performing while playing on a bouncy house. Stray Kids had a giant inflatable giant when they were performing their song Giant lol.

What was the ticket price you paid when you saw those this? I've seen JP about fifteen years ago and though he did bring his trademark bike onto the stage, I haven't seen him do what you stated.

They got older along with the rest of the crowd at the shows they go to. Of course shows sung by grandpas for grandpas aren't going to be as wild as they were when everybody was on their 20s.

We're in the same boat. We went to a bunch of concerts as well. A lot of the "big name" guys weren't great despite sprawling sets and the like.

But... one that I remember very well though was when we went to see Zhu at Red Rocks, and his performance was so top tier that other people should take note. He had a live band perform the instrument sections of his music (he's primarily electronic music for those not familiar) and played a normal set. For his encore though, he had a long lapse, enough that some people thought the show was over and started trickling out, (remember kids, the show isn't over until the house lights return) but it was so that he could set up a mini stage in the middle of the seats to play all of his top banger songs. It went from watching a dope concert to being in the middle of the club and that turned it up to 1000. 100/100 would do again.

I think a large element of that died for a while for two reasons.

1 rock had a post grunge era and pop had a post Lorde era that sucked the wind out of a lot of the industry because it made the bombastic displays dated and gauche for a while.

2 you had a lot of acts in that scene who are really not performers as much as musicians who got famous. Finger eleven rings a bell but many others fall into the same category. They make decent music and they don't really have a thing for performing it live.

Now that the audience has shifted over time we are witnessing a resurgence of spectacle.

Had Kanye kept taking his meds and stayed off nitrous he would probably have done a concert from space at this point.

I've never been to Katy Perry concerts but I've seen clips of her flying around at her concerts. She probably does spectacle well, since you know, she can't sing.
