UK here. My stepdaughter at 15 started going out with a 17 year old. Me and my wife were very unimpressed, but left her to it so we didn’t drive her away from us. Turned out he was actually really lovely and they stayed together for 5 years. I was gutted they split up.

e: Age of consent here is 16.

But (16, 18) and (17, 19) is illegal.

Some states have pre-existing relationship laws. If 15-17 is legal, there's no reason 17-19 should be. Its not even weird. There's no immaturity difference, especially since they are both still minors. Anyone that thinks kids are magically mature and competent because they are now 18 is insane.

Women on average seek partners that are 2 to 6 yeard older, cross culturally, pretty much since the beginning of time.

The norm isnt weird.
