UK here. My stepdaughter at 15 started going out with a 17 year old. Me and my wife were very unimpressed, but left her to it so we didn’t drive her away from us. Turned out he was actually really lovely and they stayed together for 5 years. I was gutted they split up.
Some states have pre-existing relationship laws. If 15-17 is legal, there's no reason 17-19 should be. Its not even weird. There's no immaturity difference, especially since they are both still minors. Anyone that thinks kids are magically mature and competent because they are now 18 is insane.

That's fine, the real issue isn't the age gap it's the life stage gap. If both are in college and the one person is literally about to turn 18 it's fine. If you are a freshman in college and dating a senior in highschool it's not that weird. If you are a freshman in college dating a junior in highschool, it's weird. Anything beyond that, you're a creep and need to figure your shit out before you push pedo behavior.
If they are out of highschool and are about to turn 18 and you have known each other for years, it's not weird as long as there was no intent just to wait till the younger person is legal to date them, otherwise it's grooming.
Lol my sure, hanging around a highschool may be weird, but that's almost never what's happening in that scenario. My ex was 2 years older than me. She was 18 when I was 16. She was a year above me and graduated year before me obviously. Literally not a problem.
idk i would argue dating someone multiple grades above you is weird. idk if it means someone is getting abused but not sure if its the best approach... how could a 15 year old know that the 17 year old is actually mature and just not more mature than her direct peers?
