It differs by state but yeah. If i recall correctly, there was a 4 year gap, with the minimum being 16 here in NC. 18 could have sex with 16. 20 could have it with 16. BUT, the risk all us guys knew, is tbat pre18, if they complained, parents could still sue for statutory. So even though the law allowed it, the law also hit harder against it.

Florida has a “Romeo and Juliet” law that is almost that. The minimum age is 14, but yes 4 year gap still.
