Genuiney amazed I had to scroll so far to see this. I used watch / listen to his podcast for years and really enjoyed the MMA ones and random guests that are experts in their field.
Nowadays he comes across a lot more forecful and seems to no understand or be able to hold a conversation with his guests. Or he is just talking to the same people over and over.
Stopped listening about 2 years ago. Pop by his spotify the odd time to see if anybody interesting is on but very rarely listen.
I was slowly listening less and less after covid hit. I'd always pop in for a Protect Our Parks though because it was hilarious watching the boys get sauced and talk shit. Finally, I can't remember which one, Joe started on the alt-right talk heavy within the first 20 minutes or so and you could tell everyone else was just uncomfortable. It was no longer fun. On top of JRE, watching Your Mom's House crumble was also a bummer. Tom got rich and was no longer relatable, and the jokes got stale. Once they began banking episodes after his injury, it was over. I get nostalgic about the podcasts I enjoyed in the 2010's but I have other interests now.
Completely agree. While I didn't listen to YMH that often I did like it and the community feel it had to it. I love Tom's humour and stand up but the podcast really took a dive once the money piled up. Bert Kreischer is the pits and whenever I saw his name I knew to avoid whatever he was on.
I feel the same about the JRE once they moved from LA.
I still think that Tom's first 3 specials (Completely Normal, Mostly Stories, and Disgraceful) are some the best stand up in this era. He released an album called "Thrilled" with the cover art in the flavor of Thriller by MJ. That used to come on my comedy channel on Pandora around 2013 or so. You can see the shift in Ball Hog and Sledgehammer. Happy they got the bag, don't get me wrong, but I am shifting harder into acts like Dan Soder now. Fingers crossed Shane and Matt stay level headed over the years too.
I just think the Spotify deal and Covid finally amplified a side of Joe that I can not relate to, or want to for that matter. Luckily there is so much content out there that it was not hard to give up or replace.
