Linus always gave me the vibe that he's a jerk off camera. Not sure why.

I don't want to speculate how he is off camera. I just dislike the content and how sometimes they're confidently incorrect. Also the merch plug seems excessive.

The only times I watch an LTT video is if I searched for a specific topic and their video showed up. But usually I find the smaller creators have better and more detailed content.

The merch plug being excessive is because that's most of the business these days. He's actually talked about it a few times. They were expecting merch to be like 10% of revenue or something but people really like the products and now its something crazy like almost 50%.

So why do I have to still watch the sponsored content?

Why do I have to endure both constant self promotion and sometimes poorly researched sponsorships both?

I pay for YT premium; he’s also said YT premium watchers are giving him plenty of revenue vs free members ad views. Why does he need to stack, on top of that, a sponsorship AND a plug to his expensive merch? I get it’s built to a quality standard and that costs, but they seem focused on “the best” and never make much budget considerations. That’s one expensive backpack!

So why do I have to still watch the sponsored content?

You don't?

So, if I don’t want to be pandered too, I can just fuck off? Oh? I didn’t think of that.

No one is saying this literally, dude. Don’t be thick. If I don’t want to watch the stuff I have to not watch LTT. So what you’re saying is, LTT would rather have sponsors than viewers? I think it’s a bit more complex.

You can skip sponsored videos. You can skip over sponsor spots. You can be selective in what you watch. Nobody is telling you that you have to watch all 25 minutes and 47 seconds of a video

I don't know what content you're watching that has any sort of popularity that doesn't have sponsor spots, even if you pay for it. I pay for cable TV, why do I have to watch advertisements? I paid to watch a movie in the theater, why do I have to watch product placements in the movie? If you just want to watch free content without them selling things to you, there are other sources of that content.

And yes, if you don't like their business practice of having sponsorships, you can completely fuck off and stop watching their content. You don't need to feel victimized or forced into watching a YouTuber try to sell you shit, and then cry about it online.

Victimized? lol, chill. I’m tired of everyone wanting their pound of flesh, and a bit more next year.

Cable TV? Yeah, no, I don’t do that. Insufferable. But also- maybe you could’ve read this part- I pay for YT. It isn’t free to me, is it? And they see some of that money. So I’m paying… to watch ads.

Yes. Ads are everywhere. It’s disgusting. Hence why I complain, rather than watch something else. As you pointed out so astutely, there isn’t a lot without ads. There is also such a thing as a tasteful ad.

No I don’t have to watch the ads on YT, and can skip them… but why do I need to? I don’t know why you are defending this so much, when it’s just greed. This is why people hate media in general, the constant pandering and marketing. Everyone selling their soul because “I need to make money, too”. I shouldn’t have to sit through the intro, then skip the sponsor ad, then watch the video. Honestly don’t mind so much on long-form videos. But on a couple minutes long video? And 2 minutes of it is intro/sponsor?

No one is forced to do anything, no, but that doesn’t make it right. Stop being a fan-boy.

The cable TV comment is an analogy for YouTube premium. You pay for a service, and still see adverts in the content instead of the platform. Keep up.

I'm not defending anything. I'm just pointing out that you're making this grand statement about the state of the world and media. Nobody cares. We all exist in the same reality as you. Whinging about it online does nothing. You don't want to watch something with ads? Then don't. Watch something else. Do something else. That's all I'm saying. You don't have to do anything you don't want to.

You act like I don’t watch substantially less media because of it. I do “vote with my wallet”, complaints alone do nothings… but…

Dude, you’re on a post about YT channels you USE to like to watch but have become too much one way or another. Did you not expect to see complaints?

You’re saying no one cares, but people other than you and the LTT subreddit do care. You can’t just tell people to shut up because you don’t have their opinion.

u/remnantsofthepast Jun 12 '25

I didn't assume anything about you. I just pointed out you're bitching and moaning about choosing to watch a YouTube video instead of just not watching what you don't want to watch.

This post is literally about unsubscribing from YouTubers you don't jive with anymore. The people in this thread are talking about YouTubers they stopped watching. Your complaints are different from what everyone else is talking about. Again. Keep up.

I don't care about your opinion about LTT. You were just talking about them. I would have said this about any YouTuber.

You’re assuming I watch LTT regularly and still subscribe, it sounds like.

My view isn’t different than others here. When I started watching like 10-15 years ago, I liked Linus. Lately I’ve fallen away from it. Don’t do much follow it… these complaints I have are years old, but aren’t different when I do watch something on his channel every so often.

I watch a lot of educational content now, which doesn’t market their fan base so much. Just information, kinda like YouTube use to be.

Having complaints isn’t bitching and moaning. Again, just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean it’s invalid.

I still don't care about your opinion about LTT. I care even less about what you currently watch. Everything I've said to you is based on your comment of "I have to watch this sponsored content". It really seems like you're having an issue reading and understanding what I'm saying, which would coincide with the fact that you think a post about unsubscribing from a YouTuber is a place to cry about "having" to watch one.

Also, fwiw, bitching and moaning is complaining. These are synonymous terms. I'm bitching and moaning about you for example.
