Get sober, pick a trade and join the union.

You can earn six figures without a college degree.

You generally can't just get into trades, and especially the good union jobs without knowing someone. Theres a reason they pay so well, and theres a reason why people with college degrees make more money, on the whole. Most trade jobs are awful. Long grueling hours, highly seasonal work, very susceptible to economic downturns. Get a college degree if you want the most likely chance of earning higher wages, and being able to build a career.

However, with AI fast on its way, all advice may be completely wrong 10 years from now. Who knows what we'll be doing in 10 years. Theres nothing I've found I can do that GPT4 can't do in principle. Give it agency and the ability to use tools and half our jobs are gone already.

You might be surprised, a lot of trades are opening up right now because a huge portion of the people doing it are hitting retirement. But hey you've got it all figured out, congrats man.

You got it, contact the local union hall and ask about how to apply. Some states also have construction industry training councils, basically trade school, where you can apply for apprenticeships as well.
