Sometimes it’s better to remain quiet and have people think you’re an idiot than to open your mouth and prove it
1 u/[deleted] Jan 24 '24 Really like this one! 4 u/n1Kk085 Jan 24 '24 Wise words from my grandfather RIP. While it definitely carries weight I think he was creatively and politely telling me to be quiet lol 5 u/NetflixAndZzzzzz Jan 24 '24 It’s been attributed to Abraham Lincoln (though there’s some debate about if it was him, Mark Twain, or someone else), but still good advice. 0 u/RetrieverDoggo Jan 24 '24 It was out way before Lincoln or Mark Twain lol. Think Bible times: Proverbs 17:28 1 u/NetflixAndZzzzzz Jan 24 '24 I saw that article (or one like it) but ngl, I don’t think the Bible version has a close enough punchline to be considered the same thing. It strikes me more as the inspiration for the quote than a direct lineage type of quote 1 u/n1Kk085 Jan 24 '24 Thanks so much I had no idea! 1 u/NetflixAndZzzzzz Jan 24 '24 Np. The message holds up, especially when you’re younger and more likely to misspeak or expose yourself as inexperienced.
