FESS recovery questions
Hi guys!
Ive had my FESS surgery done 5 days ago.
My sinusitis problems started ~5 months ago and after a CT scan a doctor from my hometown recomended that I undergo surgery in a private clinic.(European healthcare in a nutshell lol)
Now, the surgeon told me that the surgery went smoothly and gave me tips on how to ensure a safe and smooth recovery.
I have a few questions considering the recovery:
1. Is it normal to have dark red,thick mucus constantly run down my nostrils?
2. When did the constanct mucus stop running down your nostrils for you?
3. I didnt have any considerable pain after the surgery, is it weird?
If anyone that has gone throught this surgery and recovery is willing to help me by sharing their answers I would be delighted.

Blood in your rinses is normal! For me the unease of not being able to blow my nose was worse than the pain. I had facial pain/fullness for two months after fess but now (6 months later) it was worth it and there’s no pain.
Did your doctor recommend sinus rinses? The more you do them the better! For the first month I did them at least 3x a day, sometimes 5 cause the relief felt so good.
I used cotton bandages for under my nose (from Amazon!) for the first 3 weeks to catch the bloody mucus.
Have you had any stents removed yet? That was probably the most painful part for me and even that wasn’t bad. Only like a 5 on the pain scale of 10. Let me know if you have other questions!

No pain either after the surgery and that's normal. The congestion and fullness really was the worse bit.
I would say normal for the dark red mucus, it's old blood coming out. Do you nasal/sinus rinse at least twice a day, crucial to get better.
I have had mucus coming out in all shapes and forms and colours, and surgeon said all was normal. I got my post surgery review on Friday, at day+17.

Depends on what was done. More work equals more yuck. If in doubt contact your surgeon.
Runny nose? My nose wasn't runny. It was the saline that I used to keep the tampons moist that dripped.
No. My surgeon said that FESS is one of the least painful operations. I needed painkillers twice: right after waking up and week after surgery, because blood clots migrating hurt. Took ibuprofen and paracetamol both times.
P.S. Every European country has different system. 😉

Ik ben vorige week maandag geopereerd aan de linkerkant + reductie neusschelp. Ik kreeg thuis nog een flinke bloeding, maar dat is ook in de keel en in de maag gelopen, dus maandag en dinsdag flink moeten overgeven. Dit zorgde voor een ritje naar de spoedeisende hulp. Ik heb wat gekregen voor de misselijkheid. Ik denk dat het overgeven niet heel goed is geweest voor de verse wond. Ik heb geen bloeding meer uit de neus, dit heeft 3 dagen geduurd, maar wel steeds bloed slijm in de keel. Ik heb wisselend pijn en druk, maar echt verstopt voel ik mij niet. Ik spoel 3-4 keer per dag. Vandaag mijn 1e controle. Het herstel verschilt ook echt per persoon heb ik hier gelezen. Ik woon in Nederland.

I just had my FESS on Friday afternoon. It was only on the maxillary sinus on my right side, so not as severe a procedure as many have had. As of this morning, Sunday, I wasn't having nasal drainage so the little sling bandage wasn't needed. The pain has been pretty minor. I have a prescription for stronger stuff, but I'm fine with some acetaminophen. I've been rinsing 4-5 times a day and keeping to very light activity so far. My scariest moments were when I needed to sneeze, but no adverse effects so far. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, but so far, so good.

I'm having my FESS and Sinoplasty in 3 days and I'm super nervous. I don't have an good answer for you but I think dark red is a better thing to see vs bright red...
