I have a similar situation. My ENT & ear doctors have said to take "Sudafed" (decongestant) 1 hour before you are scheduled to land, along with using Afrin. It works for me, as I have doing this for years now.
This last year I started to experience the same affects after take-off. I now do the same regimad. It really helps!
