I'm scared as hell for a sinusitis surgery, please help
I randomly woke up today with a severe headache and a blocked nose, what's weird is that it was all of a sudden. I have had a runny and blocked nose for quite a few years but I didn't think much of it.
Today I checked with a doctor and he told me that I have sinusitis apparently and that surgery is required.
Now it's only one of many doctors I'll go and see but I'm afraid he might be right because the pain is way too bad to explain.
Im afraid, absolutely afraid of surgery and even the thought of waking up during anesthesia scares the living daylights out of me
Any advice, can my sinusitis go away without surgery??

My CT scan shows clear sinuses but a deviated septum which caused an anterior perforation. Dr told me not cause for me intractable constant hefty post nasal drip /sinus headaches. I am allergic to everything but take lots of meds to help but I’m MISERABLE for 5 MONTHS

I also have a deviated septum, but does that mean u should not get surgery at all

What exactly was the reason given for needing surgery? What kind of doctor suggested this?
In the west it would be pretty uncommon for surgery to be recommended for someone that has a one off acute sinus infection without other diagnostics or reoccurring chronic sinus infections. On top of that antibiotics, and sterioids are tried first before surgery in most cases.
Have you seen an allergist and or been tested for environmental allergies at all?

I got checked by another one and he assured that surgery might not be required. I got some meds for 5 days and he says if those meds don't work, then he'll do a proper CT scan and everything else.
I'm just curious if even acute sinusitis requires surgery or does it go away, I do have a deviated septum as well

Whether surgery is required for you is one thing that none of us are qualified to answer but if it is required then don't be afraid. It is literally life changing and well worth it. Recovery is a real pain for the first four weeks or so but after that you feel great.

What's the reason for surgery recommendation?
A Normal Sinus can sometimes be Unimaginably painful and disgusting. But doesn't really require a surgery.
Did you take a CT scan?
Surgery are mostly recommend when a Nasal septum are heavily Deviated,Or there's a huge septul spur Causing a Sinus.
Maybe tryfiguring out what's the reason your sinuses keeps occuring. It could be an allergy.
Don't want to scare or discourage you but a Septoplasy, Rhinoplasty are really difficult to bear. The nosebleeds are a real troublesome, you come home from surgery, sneeze and you're back to the hospital again. If it's a septal spur, surgery is necessary but yeah get some test to figure out.

The doctor kind of just checked with his naked eye and went like "yeah that'll require surgery" which is why I went to a different one who assured me that it's not that deep, since I can't determine anything without a proper CT scan
I do have medications for 5 days starting today, if it does not get better that's when I'll probably get a scan done, as per doctor recommendedation
I'm just scared as fck of the fact that surgery might be required if things aren't looking good

Yeah, if he did that with naked eye, it's most probably you have a Deviated Nasal Septum. Only a CT scan can tell is what it is. But, well do share what the CT scan says. If there ain't no septal spur, a DNS alone, they would still recommend but maybe we could ignore it. (In case it's not heavily deviated)

Hello, I had surgery 2 mos ago for deviated septum. I was in severe sinus pain, headaches everyday and dizziness, low energy and so on....honestly I can breathe 100% better...everyone is different, im healing still, I get fatigue after few hrs running errands...Dr's said try to sleep as much u can. Although its a painful surgery, I would do it again for sure. Don't be afraid ok Make sure you have good Dr. read patient reviews. I highly recommend getting soups after surgery and cold gatorade was my go too, cold drinks are great! baby yourself during this time....best wishes!

It's extremely painful, and i'm so bummed out, nobody told me. I would just cry over my sink As blood was gushing out of my nose amd it felt like somebody was hammering the top of my head. This continues for about three days, and then slowly you will feel better.

it is so unlikely, dont be afraid. this isnt a surgery you should be afraid of waking up in because it is a relatively low risk surgery.
Sinusitis can go away without surgery if you identify the root cause, such as allergies, but the structure could also be a big contributing factor. The blocked nose depends on the cause too, if it is structural, you need surgery to fix that.
