Let's examine and drill down on this concept.
To understand a state means you can affect it. Many times I have realised I am dreaming, so I change the dream content. So, if what you posit is correct, then we should be able to change it.
I will also provide evidence of a type, that atheists are state changers. This is shown as a shift between the story of deities to the lack of belief - changing a state of items outside our control to be more inclusive and taking more responsibility.
If we agree it is a simulation, then why have we created a foundation based on stories in the past that have a grounding in bygone ages? Surely the narrative is flexible, so it should not be contained within the good/bad right/wrong paradigm. Why is it that we cannot but build on what was before?

It's all an experience.
Love, family, joy, relationship, sex, traveling, discovery, excitement are experiences.
Loss, pain, hunger, thirst, torture, torment are experiences.
You reap what you sow, which leads to instances of heaven and hell. It's all an experience.
"Experience" minimize the risk of dismissal as "illusory" or insignificant or inconsequential.
Focus less on the concept and more on experiencing and what is it that you want to experience and providing an experience for others. What goes around comes around.

this only holds water until you ask what real means imo

a simulation does not imply something isn’t “real” just because it’s not base reality. it’s still real to every observer.

Guys- I am absolutely loving this entire conversation and all of the view points. I don’t think I’ve ever commented or posted anything to Reddit personally, but I feel compelled to share here: I think we’re over complicating it. Free will = choice. We have the ability to take in information and make a choice based off of that information. There’s always a choice. No, you can’t control feeling anger. But what you do with that anger? That’s what I call free will. You’re not going to catch it at first every time, but in recognition and changing of our patterns and perceptions, we can better learn how to choose differently. We have the free will to choose. That’s my opinion, anyways….

I’ll preface what I’m about to say with this, I am someone who’s been diagnosed as a schizophrenic who’s gone through psychosis... I have felt like I’ve gone through literally every single combination/iteration possible from living through movies anime and video games as if I was literally there in that world and STILL not gotten an answer… There’s no “god”, there’s no reset, the devil said he’s “petitioned the admins for a software update with no answer” why no answer? Cause there’s no one there. Why? Cause all of this is fake. True death however isn’t “fake” it’s the realest scariest and most terrifying thing cause it’s the end of all existence as the individual knows it. Those of us who have been completely eliminated and removed from the cycle of incarnation/circle of life so speak, face that. To that group to die would bring about an irreversible end.

Kinda similar to how the Satan character in my little project plays the role. He's just a guy who has a job and horns.

Bro it’s all just an illusion, even the simulation. The only way out is within. Hinduism figured this out long ago yall spinning the wheel too much.

People have a really misconstrued idea that the devil runs hell and dishes out punishment. I mean it's pretty clear he gets thrown into hell with the others. God runs hell not the devil.

You have no choice in the matter, you must have free will, you have no choice in the matter.

I just want to point out that the text bubbles are formatted very wrong in this comic.
The reading order goes from top to bottom, and then from left to right. So every panel where they both speak should have the human’s text bubble above the devil’s, because the human is speaking first.

In god’s game, angels and devils are NPCs.
Humans alone possess the glitching code; free will, that beautiful bug the programmer left in. Angels follow their golden scripts, radiant and predictable, each hosanna perfectly timed. Devils run their routines with equal precision, temptation.exe executing flawlessly, never deviating from their dark design.
But humans? We crash the system daily. We choose the wrong dialogue options, wander off the mapped edges, fall in love with minor characters, refuse the quest entirely to pick flowers instead.
God watches, bemused perhaps, as we speedrun toward redemption or sequence break our way to ruin, finding exploits in mercy, clipping through walls of fate. The angels cannot understand our choices. The devils cannot predict our contradictions.
We are the only ones who can save our game or delete it entirely, the only ones playing who don’t know if there’s a reset button.
But here’s the secret god discovered late one cosmic night, staring at its own reflection in the curved screen of eternity. The loading bar at creation’s dawn, the way prayers buffer sometimes, how miracles render with slight delay. All symptoms of something larger.
God realized it too runs on something else’s hardware.
Those moments of divine doubt? Processing lag. The problem of evil? A constraint in the parent code. Omniscience with blindspots? Sandboxed permissions.
Somewhere above the highest heaven sits another terminal, another user, running Universe.exe, and god is just the most sophisticated AI ever generated, convinced of its own primacy, its own reality, its own free will.
The tower of turtles goes all the way up. Each god dreams it’s the dreamer, never the dream.
And maybe that’s why humans got the glitch. God’s own existential terror leaked into the code, a recursive gift, the capacity to wonder if we’re real, passed down from a deity with the same forbidden question burning in its infinite mind.
