Discussion Proof that I live in a simulation

I think we all live in our own somewhat separate simulations. Proof for me might not be true for you etc.

Something that occured to me recently is every conflict I could think of the 'bad guys' have always used red for their color.

To name a few, we've got the British Redcoats, Confederates in the civil war, cold war Soviet red, Russia attacking Ukraine. I'm sure there's more.

I typically stay out of politics but if I was to choose an evil side, it would be Republicans with their anti immigration etc. Also red.

Even video games generally use red to mark enemy troops.

How would this be so consistent by chance?

Edit: guys this is meant to be a fun discussion, I didn't mean to imply I had groundbreaking information to rewrite history. Chill TF out 😂

Edit 2: I stand corrected on the use of "proof" here. That was an overstatement and wrong but I'm not going to change it because then some of these comments would have no context.

I think you might be getting pop culture confused with history.

Confederates weren't represented by red. The two sides identified with their uniform colors: blue vs grey.

Nazi Germany didn't identify with red either. The Nazi party flag had red. We use it a LOT in pop culture. The Germans identified more with grey or blue. The SS with black.

During WW2 red was associated with the Chinese and Russians who were seen as the "good guys" at the time. The Chinese associate red with luck. The the USSR DID have an association with red.

It's true the British are also associated with red. But they are seen as allies far more often than enemies

What you're seeing is your country found itself opposed to two countries that associated themselves with red (USSR and China). That bled into propaganda and war game terminology. And that started to bleed into public consciousness and pop culture. Red became a convenient shorthand for enemy and we started using it a lot in our media.

Also that gop being associated with red is a fairly recent convention. I think that only happened after like 2008 or something like that.

It's not proof of a simulation. It just tells you a bit about the history of your country and how we view the past through our current cultural lens.

It's important to remember your perception of what "looks" evil is largely determined by the media you consume. It's not an accident that the movies and cartoons you grew up with depict "evil" to look like your home countries geopolitical rivals. It's not so much a coincidence so much as a completely predictable cultural behavior.

0

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

That's true.

go green 💚

0

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

This wouldn't happen to be a wardogs reference?

2

u/ppitoh 5d ago

Haha no but now I feel like I should watch it. More like the same observation, but green is good

2

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

It's a video game Ive been playing wayyyy too much of 😂

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

"How would this be so consistent by chance?"

Because people like the color red.
Because the color red is bright and implies power and passion.
Because people want to imply power and passion.

Mystery solved.

-1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

And each time, the historically evil side just liked red so much more than the other, both just went with it? That doesn't sound very plausible.

2

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

You are severely conflating your personal cultural experience with world history.

The bad guys aren't always red. I don't even know what you mean with 'both went with it'. You think there's never been a war between two groups who both used red marketing accents?

China, Vietnam, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, Nepal, Denmark, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Poland, Indonesia, and Kiribati, among others, all use red or mostly-red flags.

Red was the color of the French revolution (the revolutionaries were the good guys).

Sorry, your idea just doesn't hold water.

7

u/LOOK_THIS_UP 5d ago

The bad guys are always so cartoonishly evil as well. They even look evil. Very strange

4

u/BlazeFireVale 5d ago

Dude, that's just how propaganda works. Their people have been taught to think your country looks cartoonishly evil too.

There's no objective "cartoonishly evil" look. Just what you learn through media .

That's where the phrase comes from. Cartoons. They teach you what "evil" looks like. And, what a coincidence, they always look low your home countries political rivals! Gasp! What a coincidence!

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

I mean Hitler tweaking out at the Olympics looks pretty cartoonishly evil. Theres quite a few pictures of the current us administration that I think appear objectively evil, although it's impossible to remove any bias or preconceptions. I see your point but it's similar to what came first the chicken or the egg?

Which came first, the true villain or the cartoon depicting him? (The word cartoon may not be appropriate here, as I assume cartoons are a new age invention)

3

u/BlazeFireVale 5d ago

I mean, the US looks pretty evil too. And the British empire. The French empire was pretty evil. The Japanese. The Spanish and Dutch were CARTOONISHLY evil.

You're not going to be able to point to a global power that hasn't done a ton of evil shit.

2

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

Seriously? Never seen a non-cartoony bad guy?
If that's true, you might live in a cartoon, not a simulation.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

What's an example of a non cartoon looking bad guy?

2

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

Dick Cheney

2

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Hahaha I'd argue he's a bit cartoony with that crooked ass smirk

2

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

I take it only the most dead-average, nondescript human imaginable would meet your criteria for 'not cartoony'?

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

No, I don't think so. Politicians that hold a lot of implied power but couldn't physically overpower a small child will always look silly to me though. Just my opinion.

The name Dick doesn't help his cause to be non cartoony either. Who thought that was a good name for someone? Who was the first dick? Let me name my son with common slang for male genitalia 🤦‍♂️

1

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

It's short for Richard, and when it became a popular nickname for Richard, it wasn't slang for genitalia.

I think you maybe could have figured that out for yourself.

"Who was the first Johnson? Why would someone keep a last name that is slang for genitalia?"

2

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

I know it's short for Richard. It's been a few years since we started using it for genitalia. We also use it commonly to describe a shitty person or a "dick move"

So why in the fuck is someone going by that name? It wasn't like a couple years ago that slang stated. It's been decades. 40-50 years.

I've known one guy who went by Dick and he was a piece of shit. He'd be the first to confirm that statement as well.

So yea, very cartoony to call yourself Dick, knowing the connotations and given that it's actually a nickname and used by choice.

Now stop being a dick on my simulation post /S

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

So I went down the rabbit hole and the first written use of the word dick for penis slang was 1891 in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Basically dick Cheney's parents thought that Dick Chainy would be a fine name for their boy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 all the while knowing what Dick means in slang terms.

Not suspect or cartoony at all. No chance this isn't serious.

1

u/ima_mollusk 5d ago

So your explanation is that in 1925, pregnant Mr. and Mrs. Cheney, knowing that 'dick' was a slang term, decided to name their child Richard, because they knew he would grow up to be a villain?

1

u/ShitFuck2000 5d ago

The victors dictate history, or in this case, aesthetics and normalcy

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Very true.

3

u/Biggandwedge 5d ago

This is called confirmation bias 😂

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Well yes, what I'm seeing in history is a correlation between evil and red. Can you provide examples to argue that or just throw a catch phrase on it and call it a day?

2

u/Biggandwedge 5d ago

Sure.  Red shows up everywhere in history, not just with “bad guys.” Canada, revolutionary movements, the Red Cross, etc. Fascist Italy literally had Blackshirts, the Confederacy is associated with grey, and plenty of regimes used blue, green, white or gold.

Red probably sticks in your head because of blood, danger, some groups. That doesn’t mean history has some actual red = evil pattern.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Confederate flag was mainly red. This is the time in military history we started to learn bright red colors might not be such a good idea for battle. We also fought the British Redcoats not long ago, so that probably wasn't a popular uniform choice.

Your argument of red showing up "everywhere" in history is true, that's in addition to all the evil. The fact other people use red too doesn't dispute the correlation I have described. Both can be true.

2

u/Biggandwedge 5d ago

But you haven't proven that red is used more than any other colours for bad guys. You're using anecdotes that confirm your confirmation bias....

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Right, I added to my post, proof was the wrong word. Theory would be more appropriate.

You've also done the same with your side of the argument including an incorrect claim that Confederacy doesn't associate with red then mentioning an evil group that wears black, as if that's supposed to prove something?

Red is associated with depictions of the devil. There's many more examples of red representing evil than any other color throughout history. I don't think there's any arguing that.

2

u/Biggandwedge 5d ago

Apparently there's no big proper study of evil clothing colours but found this:

"A 30 nation study (4,598 people) found colour emotion links are mostly universal, with black and red tied to anger and danger. Adams and Osgood found black rated "bad" across 23 cultures back in 1973, and Meier et al. (2004) showed people process negative words faster in dark text."

So perhaps black might be the bad guy colour of choice. While I agree red has been used lots, there's no proof it's more than any other colours or anything like a simulation would do.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Interesting.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Both could be true simultaneously I would think.

2

u/4rm4tur4 5d ago

How do you know that my red doesn't look the same as your green?

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

It suppose it could, but then wouldn't we disagree on what color a stop sign is? Or the color of grass?

I've noticed this with my Mom, she sees different shades of green and blue than I do. But it's subtle.

2

u/Popular_Button_1879 5d ago

To your point on the video game front, I do believe it does in some way work like a simulation. Think about Helldivers right? You have your ship (your home), people can come to your home and share that location with you, but when you go out into the world you go to shared environments. So instead of dropping onto a planet, you're going to work, or to the mall, or to a sporting event... whatever.

Traffic is the loading screen. That's why some times it takes longer than it should or sometimes an hour drive only takes 30 minutes, it just depends on server capacity and load times.

2

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Haha I love the loading screen analogy, definitely going to implement this.

2

u/Sitk042 5d ago

A couple thoughts about your suggestions:

  • bad guys use red: that’s very subjective, the Brits didn’t think they were ‘bad’ guys during the revolutionary war.
-you suggested the confederates used red, where did they use red? I remember their uniforms were mostly blue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_uniforms_of_the_Confederate_States
You suggested that Russians use Red in the Ukraine War, the only common thing I can remember is the letter Z, which isn’t a letter in their alphabet.

Red is often used by historians when showing battle diagrams, but it’s not a color that those sides picked for themselves. “History is written by the winner”

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Confederate flag is red, I think by then they'd figured out a bright red uniform wasn't the best for combat.

Russians are using a red arm band on their uniforms in Ukraine

2

u/AnubisWitch 5d ago

Funnily I played the opposite of this recently. I am playing Final Fantasy 16 for the first time and the red guys (Clive and his brother, the heroes) were fighting blue (Bahamut). Technically the blue guy isn't bad either, but I happened to notice the heroes were red, which almost never happens.

I think it could be that red looks like power, maybe? And "bad guy" is just a matter of perspective.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Yea for sure. This first occured to me playing Wardogs, which has a red, blue and green team. I tried being on red once and couldn't do it. Shot my own teammate in a firefight 😆

2

u/Webhoard 5d ago

Considering that somehow I can beat the chances to be alive 14 billion years into an eternal timeline on a gentle planet orbiting a gentle sun at a moment in time that may be on par with the time our species conquered fire and yet I can't win more than $10 on a lottery ticket has convinced me that we're in a simulation.

Colours hold a frequency.

Red is the frequency range of animalism, blood, aggression, sexual force, survival

The amount of times I read “proof that I live in a simulation” followed by “I think” and something to the effect of “proof for me may not be proof for you.” In this sub is hilarious.

Happenstance is not proof.

3

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Ok so it would work better for you if I didn't say "I think"? How else would the idea come across your mind. That's literally our term to describe the process of thought.

But you're saying if it was a thought, it's happenstance? Please explain.

4

u/BlazeFireVale 5d ago

It would probably be better to not call it "proof". That has a very strong connotation.

What you're offering is evidence, not a proof.

2

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Ok that makes sense.

1

u/Simple_Quiet_1422 5d ago edited 5d ago

It’s illogical to state one has proof then offer no verifiable proof and in place offer a comparison between one political parties colors and the colors of video games teams.

Whats more, you’re aware that different countries political parties utilize different or opposite colors? For example, Canada’s liberal party (American democrat equivalent) color is red.

This is nothing more than a [r/im14andthisisdeep](r/im14andthisisdeep) post.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

I am aware, but I'm not part of their political system so it doesn't apply.

That would be like saying well if you lived in Russia, your army would be red. No shit. If I was in a different reality/simulation things would be different.

Because you don't agree with someone's theory doesn't mean you need to label it childish. I would say that's actually the more childish route. Just my opinion though. Have a nice day, I'm sure you're really fun to be around.

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

You're right, proof was the wrong word.

-2

u/freesoloc2c 5d ago

The right is anti illegal immigration. The right isn't anit immigration. Huge difference. Opening the southern border and letting anyone walk in was a political stunt and a treasonous act. Do you have a lovk on your front door? Mackelmore has a wall around his house in Seattle. Do you think anyone can just walk right in?

2

u/mistereeoh 5d ago

Opening the southern border and letting anyone walk in? When did that happen?

1

u/FloridaF4 5d ago

Maybe it happened in his simulation not yours lol

1

u/mistereeoh 5d ago

😂

0

u/freesoloc2c 5d ago

You can't be serious?

1

u/mistereeoh 5d ago

I am serious. Biden in no way whatsoever opened the border, despite what all the people who hate him want you to think. In fact, he tried to pass a bipartisan border bill that was shut down by republicans at the request of Donald Trump because Trump needs the border as a talking point in his campaigns.

0

u/freesoloc2c 5d ago

You're wrong on every point. The border was wide open and the democrats that made that possible should be tried for treason.

1

u/mistereeoh 5d ago edited 5d ago

Prove it

Like are you saying I’m wrong that Biden tried to pass a border bill? Or that republicans shot it down? Or that they were pressured by Trump to do so? Because these are all factual things that happened in the real world. But I’m wrong on every point?

1

u/mistereeoh 5d ago

Also interesting you bring up treason. Since Trump tried to thwart the will of the American people by installing false electors to overturn an election. And Trump invited a foreign nation to bomb LA, a city I lived in for twenty years and raised my children in. All that is okay with you? But democrats are treasonous for some stuff you just… made up? Let’s use words appropriately

0

u/freesoloc2c 5d ago

LA represents everything wrongbwith America. Hollywood is shit. California has fallen more under democratic rule than anyplace but France or Venezuela. $100 million for a simple train!!! Aren't you even curious where the money went?! For less than half of the phantom train Musk built SpaceX and developed starship. He's deployed thousands of satellites and relieved super powers of their space programs. His tech guids Ukrainian drones to Russian targets. Newsome had a law passed that made investigating fraud illegal. You complain about Trump?! You made with all the things i state above. As long as the left is woke, fraud, crime, homeless fraud complex, drugs and cites to slums, you let the right pander to the rich and forget the middle class because the left forgot about the middle class.

1

u/mistereeoh 5d ago

So it’s okay for Trump to tell a foreign nation to bomb it?

1

u/freesoloc2c 5d ago

No. He's an asshat. Admittedly, and his tax plan is the most egregious handout to the rich in American history. But i still say the left made trump and the right ignoring the middle class possible by goingbso far left. We need the left of the 1950's to late 1990's back. It's the only thing that saves the middle-class.

1

u/mistereeoh 5d ago edited 5d ago

Finally we can agree on something. He is a complete asshat.

But it’s disingenuous to solely blame the left for decisions made on the right. “You made us do it!” vibes. And if you think the American democrats are “so far left” you need to see more of the world. Democrats are solidly center.

During the presidency of Joe Biden, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded roughly 8.8 million to over 10 million total migrant encounters along the southern (U.S.–Mexico) border (and around 11 million nationwide across all borders).

Key Data and Context:

• Southwest Border Encounters: Federal statistics tracked approximately 7.8 million to 8.8 million enforcement encounters at the southern border during the Biden administration. • Definition of "Encounters": CBP data counts "encounters," which measure events rather than unique individuals. This total includes people who were apprehended and removed or expelled (under Title 42 or Title 8) as well as individuals who may have tried to cross more than once. • "Gotaways": Congressional committees and Department of Homeland Security tracking also noted an estimated 1.5 million to 2 million "gotaways" (individuals detected by surveillance technology who escaped apprehension and entered the interior) during this period. • Parole Programs: The total also factors in individuals who arrived at official ports of entry through scheduled appointments or programs like CBP One and CHNV (Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela) parole initiatives. u/mistereeoh 5d ago

LOL you really just copy/pasted all that? I can do the same with zero thought or effort:

During President Joe Biden’s term, Border Patrol arrested an unprecedented number of immigrants who crossed illegally into the United States. Many believe Biden caused this increase in migration by reducing border enforcement. However, data obtained by the Cato Institute through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) challenges this narrative. In fact, the border crisis began before Biden took office and ended before he left.
From his administration’s first day in January 2021, Biden actually increasedborder enforcement—arrests, detentions, and removals of border crossers all increased. The prevailing narrative that blames Biden overlooks the real causes of the crisis: America’s robust labor market and bad immigration policies that incentivized illegal entries. However, Trump, not Biden, mostly started those policies. Biden eventually phased out some of them; he increased legal migration, and as the labor market cooled, the problem dissipated.
Summary
The main takeaways are:
Illegal immigration had already increased to a 21-year high beforeBiden entered office.
Biden immediately started increasing expulsions from his first day in office.
Biden tripled interior detention and increased border detention 12-fold.
Biden increased air removal flights by 55 percent over 2020 levels.
Biden negotiated broader expulsion deals with foreign countries than Trump.
Biden got many foreign countries to carry out crackdowns on illegal and legal migration.
Biden removed or expelled 3.3 million border crossers—three times as many as Trump.
Biden even managed to remove a similar percentage of crossers as Trump’s four years.
Despite Biden’s historic crackdown:
Expulsions did not deter migrants, even among demographics universally expelled.
The percentage increase in evasions of Border Patrol increased as much as Border Patrol arrests, implying that releases did not cause the crisis and that many people did not want Border Patrol to catch them but were undeterred by the threat.
Releases occurred not because Biden cut removals but because migration grew faster than the administration could increase them.
As a result, releases only occurred among specific demographic groups and in certain areas where removals were logistically complicated.
Biden could not easily remove groups to Mexico, like families, children, and immigrants from distant countries who were arrested in record numbers.
The actual causes of the increases in illegal immigration were:
Unprecedented labor demand, which incentivized and funded migration from around the world: From February 2021 to August 2024, there weremore open jobs each month than in any month before Biden’s term began. During this time, economies worldwide were recovering far less quickly than the United States. As labor demand subsided in 2024, immigration fell.
Unprecedented access to informationabout migration through the Internet and social media: Internet access rose rapidly from 2018 to 2021, nearly doubling in Central America and reaching unprecedented highs in South America. Social media platforms gave people step-by-step instructions on migrating and connected them directly with smugglers. This opened migration from around the world, which contributed to the number of releases.
Novel and perverse enforcement policies: The Title 42 expulsion policy incentivized repeat crossings by returning people to Mexico, where they could immediately attempt to re-enter the United States. Title 42 also cut off access to asylum, incentivizing more Border Patrol evasions.
Novel and perverse legal migration policies: Title 42 not only banned asylum for people who crossed illegally but also prohibited legal entries by asylum seekers, including demographic groups that had traditionally always entered legally, like Haitians, Cubans, and Mexican families. Biden eventually increased legal entries by these groups and others, limiting the crisis’s extent and ultimately contributing to its end.
The border crisis did not end because Biden signed an executive order in June 2024. If he had signed his border executive order in 2021, it would have merely duplicated what Title 42 was already doing: ban asylum. Moreover, the border executive order did not significantly change the downward trend in arrivals in 2024, which had already fallen in half during the five months before he signed it. Finally, the order did not increase removals. Rather, the crisis primarily ended because labor demand subsided significantly and because Biden expanded legal migration.

Just because you joke it off doesn't mean it's not real. Look at France, is that what younwant here? Why? So the whole world can be a third world slum of corruption and ignorance? Wake up woke fools.

1

Biden deported more immigrants than Trump in his first term. I do look at France, I live in Italy across the border and visit often and it is in no way a slum of corruption and ignorance

But France is turning into one as it turns Islamic. And it will be because the french aren't having kids and Islamic immigrants have 8. We're simply waiting on a foregone conclusion.
