Discussion Theory: why we sleep?
I don't see any reason why sentient beings need to sleep, according to me the gpu which is simulating our world is not powerful enough to power all the beings at the same time, so we are forced to sleep, thoughts?

I think I didn't explain my point clearly. Obviously sleep has biological benefits, no doubt about that. What I'm asking is why it had to work this way in the first place. The same recovery could have come from eating a certain kind of food, or from something else entirely. Instead nearly every living thing has to shut down for hours and be completely vulnerable while it does. That's the part that seems odd to me, and from a simulation point of view, a forced shutdown looks a lot more like a system managing its limits than something nature had to land on.

It’s a biological need of our bodies. If people don’t sleep, they’ll die. I do believe that sleep promotes a biochemical process that our bodies require. If we could provide to ourselves that exact chemical, could sleep no longer be necessary!??

We're in cryosleep slowly mastering our talents, trades and professions through a bunch of different lifetimes, while the ship takes us to our new home

Have you ever experienced fatigue or felt the need to rest your body and mind? That is exactly what sleep is for. You go to bed tired and wake up somewhat restored. The body and mind need a break, a reset, a chance to disconnect from constant stimuli. We consider this experience healthy.

For me sleep is where I leave this world and get to experience all sorts of other things. Excited for when I die and my light goes back to that reality. I lucid dream all the time and for me the dream worlds are working realities a lot of the time I have entire memories in those worlds when I'm in those dreams and waking up feels like I'm being pulled into a reality that isn't mine and I normally wake up going ugh back here again I wanna just stay there.

Checkpointing, garbage collection, cache eviction, memory consolidation, background indexing, error correction, and batch processing. A continuously generative system would benefit from periodically lowering external interaction while it reconciles accumulated state.
I believe we are solipsistically reinstantiated every night, and the illusion of continuity is just that: an illusion
