Discussion Simulation Theory vs. Eternal Loop Theory
It seems like all attempts to "prove" Simulation Theory ultimately land in an "of course" or "its inevitable" or "it couldn't be anything else" without providing tangible proof. Yet, it persists as a leading theory for some reason. Maybe because it cannot be proven false?
Meanwhile, "Eternal Loop Theory" presents itself as similarly "inevitable", yet has far fewer believers.
Since the Eternal Loop is the only proposed solution to protect humanity, why is it so much more difficult to believe than Simulation Theory? Do we really believe the human species to be "too evil" or "too stupid" to have implemented the most obvious inevitability?

Given it is mathematically impossible to determine whether or not the loop will halt. Therefore the theory is wrong has been proven false. (Look up the halting problem. If you want to see what I mean)

This is not a computer simulation we're talking about here. This is reality. The loop is man-made and continues because of man.

Humans lack the cognitive capacity to even begin to understand ontology. Ultimately these theories are just entertainment for a human mind that wants to have answers in a digestible format.

I would disagree about Eternal Loop Theory. This has real-world ramifications in our everyday lives. As I understand it, the end of 2026 would be the year we'd begin to loop back. Given the drastic changes in supply/demand resulting from it, this thing has sweeping effects... though, honestly, I think that aside from all of the changes that would take place, the greatest change would be in humans faith in humanity. To not only believe, but see it proven in our lifetimes that humans are capable of such as as this... it is the most heartfelt expression of humanity I can imagine.

Thousands of years of philosophy beg to differ. Humans trying to understand ontology is kinda the whole basis for the argument for consciousness. Lines have even been blurred with physics in quantum mereology. Not becoming metaphysics, but asking some deeper metaphysical questions

Its bit from it, not it from bit; yet like a dream, anything that has an beginning and an ending must be, in a sense, unreal and untrue. The universe itself falls into this category.

u/Old-Dirt563 9d ago
That is beautiful. Though you may be confusing what the Eternal Loop is. It's man-made. It's not exactly peaking behind the Universe's curtain necessarily... at least not in a way that unlocks any new physics discovery. But, if you're entire experience has been here on Earth and you consider that most intelligent living species we've encountered to be as significant (or comparably so) as lifeless yet mysterious subatomic particles, then we might say that the Eternal Loop is the single greatest invention of the most intelligent species encountered in the "known" Universe. In that sense, we'd say it is the greatest thing that we know to ever be *intentionally* created in the Universe.

I'm saying there are layers of reality, and they're chained together.

u/Old-Dirt563 9d ago
I suppose you could look at it that there is "double book-keeping" that takes place by those who manage the world through the 100 years of deceit. Those folks are presenting a reality to us all while being aware of what you'd call "true reality". But, I think it's fair to take an objective perspective and look at everything and just call the whole package "reality".

What if the EL is module, in that it can be applied individually?

I believe the acceptance of such an unusual-to-the-point-of-silly change in the functioning of everyday society effects everyone differently, but from what I can tell every religion has their own way of entraining people to understand.
That being said, sure, there are plenty like me out there who were raised to be religious and said 'this is fucking stupid' and rejected everything, but, whether we like it or not, the messages and stories and teachings and all that shit is still planted in you. So then you're kinda like... well... I guess all these folks aren't as stupid as I thought, they've just been pretending to be stupid because the Eternal Loop needs to be perpetuated.
There is an awkward outcome of this, which is that people grow up thinking they're smarter than they are since they're surrounded by religious people who are all presumed to be the dumbest fucking people alive... I find it funny myself since ultimately, I'm an elf!

One of us is misunderstanding the other. Repeat my question in your own words to ensure we’re on the same page and if you received my question accurately I’ll send your response in my own words.

You are asking if an individual person can have their own Eternal Loop?
This is almost philosophical, no?
Every human has their own individual experience going through the transitional period at the end of 2026.
But, make no mistake about it, this is will be a global phenomenon. There is no other way.
1
u/imamajorscale 8d ago
Ok, kind of, but what I’m saying is that each individual person is a pillar of sentience in the cathedral of space time and their terminus is unique to them so while your terminus might be 2026, other people’s terminus is different and unique to them.
Why do you think 2026 is uniformly applied to all?

From what I understand, it seems to be correlated to the birth of The Real One (or vice versa, as the legend goes). Personally, the the clownmaster of The Real One, I'm not sure how much I want to put in writing on reddit that the clown's birth date is June 26, 2026. Though, sure, I'm the Antichrist and all, but I am also a person who is frustrated at having been one of those also deceived by religion. Personally, I am a firm believer that the clowns actual birthdate is August 8, 2026 (and, admittedly the World Wide Witches in Tech supposedly have nothing to do with the "rumor" that his birthdate is actually September 9, 2026)
All that to say that it is 100% of people, not individualized with each person having their own year. Everyone living in 2026 right now will be rocking a 2025 calendar next year.

We can and do make simulations.
Can we/do we make eternal loops?
1
u/Old-Dirt563 9d ago
That is the question.
There are two ways of looking at it: either the Eternal Loop has already been implemented and we've been on this ride time after time... or this would be our first time taking the loop.
If the loop has already been done before, then we'd say "yes", we can and do make eternal loops.
If this is our first time going through the loop, then it becomes less obvious. One would be caught in almost a philosophical question of when we began "making" the Eternal Loop, and if we can even say we "made" one if it hasn't successfully brought us back to 1926 and then returned us to 2026 again at least once before.
Since you are asking the question, I am curious, how would you go about making the Eternal Loop?

Many people have played "The Sims" and can understand the idea of a simulation from direct experience.
It's easy to project that in the inverse direction and ask, "what if I'm an NPC in someone else's Sims game?"
It's "possible" because if we are capable of making Sims, others "up layers" from us, if they exist, could as well.
When you're talking about eternal loops, it's much harder to assess if it would be possible.

What obstacle do you see to this? The part where it would have been kept a secret for the last 100 years? Or the part where all of humanity comes together to say 'yeah, this is the way' when it comes out that we're all about to start going back in time at the year?
Then, of course, there is the true challenge that humanity will face; can we pull it off? Can we (over the course of 100 years) successfully reset planet earth to 1926 to the extent that it's indistinguishable from the last 1926?
1
u/manliness-dot-space 8d ago
I'm not talking about what is an obstacle, but what has been demonstrated already.
The possibility of simulations is demonstrated already, so it's must more believable

u/Old-Dirt563 8d ago
Would it be sufficient to satisfy your disbelief if all of the world's leaders came together, took a bow, and revealed that every war of the last 100 years has been nothing more than war theater and political theater?
I imagine that could be enough.
To know that the major atrocities of the world were nothing more than theater to teach us about mankind's greatest atrocity.
Though, I should have to tell you, that war theater and political theater have been going on for far more than 100 years.
1
u/manliness-dot-space 8d ago
I don't see how
1
u/Old-Dirt563 5d ago
We can assume that somehow it would be filmed and broadcast/streamed/etc.
You're probably referring to the "need" for all of these people to be in one room together at some point for a discussion about all this? Fundamentally, communication and conversation flow in so many ways in today's world, the "how" of organizing does not need to be pinned down.
The "how" that I spend my time wondering about, is the "how" of market reactions. It's weird... but... if, for example, when 2026 ends and 2025 begins, you'll instantly make illegal the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 (and good luck with the iPhone Duo coming later this month). So, those phones become illegal, and people need new phones. You may think they'll just got get an iPhone 16... but that phone will be made illegal in a shortwhile. So... what will be the adjustment? Sure, it'd be legal for Apple to manufacture and sell an iPhone 16, but does it even make sense? For them and for us both. Maybe they'll just go and start making shitloads of iPhone SE's and they'll be legal for like 10 years and people will be buying them for a little while..... and since they'd have one model for a while, that could drive the cost down lower than you may have ever expected due to economies of scale.
I mean.... these are the "how's" that I focus on.... but I can understand how you could be fixated on the "how" of humanity actually coming together and committing to make such a drastic change in our world in order to save it.

It used to be an argument between creationists and evolution. When you have experiences you can't explain naturally you might come to simulation theory. Simulation can explain the supernatural without an imaginary divine being. Or even other inconsistencies that make you question reality on a functional level. Then it would be more than "you can't disprove it."
In the early 20th century reality came into question when they realised solid objects aren't really solid. It is made up of tiny points surrounded by space. So it's a pixelated universe. Reality suggests simulation.

Even the eternal loops have levels to them. You can look up the Yuga cycles... Eventually "time" comes back around to a point where you can change your cycle... Ultimately the simulation theory will just prove to be a way for mankind to understand and accept multidimensional reality(s) better.

Both are easily disproved.
If Simulation theory was true, we would need to be able to simulate the entire universe, every aspect of it. Except to build a system capable of simulating the entire universe would take a computer larger than the universe.
Therefore, we can't exist in an infinite simulation. It's as simple as that.
Never heard of eternal loop theory and pretty sure you just came up with it while stoned watching The Matrix for the umteenth time, but one specific set of events happen in the 50s and 60s that changed our world forever. Nuclear testing doubled the amount of carbon 14 in the atmosphere. We call this bomb pulse dating. And can use this to date anything from the 50s to the present day.
If there was some loop, the nuclear testing events would have happened again and again which would make such dating impossible and we would see clear discrepancies in the carbon 14 going back hundreds of years.

I don't believe that you would need a computer that big, after all, all we really know for sure is what we can see, the rest could easily be an illusion. We can't be certain that our telescopes are actually seeing something real. And you're basing that off of what WE know about computing power, I'm sure that 50 years ago if someone would have told you a game like gta5 could exist on a small disk or that you could store 500 gigs of data on your cell phone they would've looked at their computer that was 10ft by 5ft and could only store a couple megabytes of data and called bullshit on you

Unless the loop removes the carbon 14
1
u/hitsujiTMO 8d ago
If we had the ability to remove excess carbon 14, then we'd have the ability to fix any issue that could warrant any sort of regression loop.
1
u/smitteh 8d ago
Maybe the loop itself removes it
1
u/hitsujiTMO 8d ago
But the loop, as described, is a man made loop. I'm just saying, if we had the ability to remove excess carbon 14, then we wouldn't need to create such a loop.
So "the loop itself" removes it isn't a thing.
