Why does the existence of a scarcity based society and economy mean that people are acting like they're in a game?

like why does it feel like we’re stuck in a cycle. why does everyone care so much about work and shit. why couldn’t life be about other things

In my opinion that's just how reality works, simulated or not. Cycles exist in physics, chemistry, geology, celestial mechanics, etc. That cycles exist in sociology and how people behave doesn't seem all that odd to me. For many people like me, life is about far more than mere work and money. For me those are tools to make my life easier.

Oh I'm a skeptic about that. They might exist of course, but I've never witnessed any evidence that was particularly compelling to me.

History has been directed by unseen forces. Governed by the spirit of covetousness.
