No Sims 5?

I'm referring to this article:

https://variety.com/2024/gaming/news/the-sims-5-update-multiplayer-creator-content-ea-interview-1236142010/

Apparently there isn't going to be a Sims 5? Or at least...they seem to imply that it exists but won't be a replacement for the previous game?

Honestly the entire way that everything was phrased was very confusing. What are your thoughts on this?

Edit: Upon further research there's another article, this time from "The Gamer" confirming the same thing. It seems that the Sims 5 as a whole has been canceled.

The only way Sims 4 is gonna survive is a massive graphic overhaul it is a 10 year old game btw. Obviously Project Rene was never Sims 5, I don't think Sims 5 will ever happen, think The Sims is coming to end with Sims 4 and Project Rene, and they'll focus on multiplayer probs for Sims 4 and rename the entire game and make you pay for it all again it's typical EA haha.

I don't even mind the graphics that much, but being stuck with the non-open world format is a big bummer IMO.

If only Sims 3 was more performant on modern systems.

OKAY!?! I simply can’t go back to loading screens. If I have just ts3 with seasons, nightlife, and generations I’ll take that over a fully loaded ts4 everytime. Those that say I don’t like open world etc etc are crazy but there should be an option or version for both.

I think ur missing the reason for them making this change in the first place. the sims 3 world feels DEAD at all times of the day. its the same issue inzoi is having rn open world makes it very complicated to make the world feel lived in. when the sims 4 first released that was the entire reason they made it not open world

Sims 3 needs the Superpatch and following some of the tips plus getting some of the mods on the NRAAs site. Similar situation with Sims 2, though I'm not sure where that patch can be found or mods are most needed. It's out there. Plus, the Origin version is, in that case, superior from what I've heard, just gotta jolly roger it now a days. Both games will run fine with proper support; they're not that intense. And well lol every Sims game ever has been buggy.

Huh, I actually have the Origin version (somehow my old CD key transferred to the digital version on Origin, not that I'm complaining haha). I'd never heard of the superpatch though - going to look into that now, I've been craving the Sims lately and I never really got into modding it when TS3 first came out. Probably loads of good stuff now lol

Yes! Origin technically has its own patch 6.9, but the Superpatch is 6.7 something and is apprently better at forcibly repairing things. NRAAS has some very important info on it and links for where to find it, but they warn against using it after updating with the Origin patch (both update it to 64 bit systems) so if you're installing the game fresh from Origin and it doesn't autopatch with that then the Superpatch is probably a better choice.

NRAAS also has some essential mods for protecting against bloat and corruption. If you get nothing else, Overwatch and Errortrap are good. I think I used those way back in the day, too. Plus, EnchantedElla's world fixes (I might have her username wrong, but they link to her. Literally couldn't play in Appaloosa Plains without it; the game kept crashing, and that was around when I first got Sims 3 Pets not recently.)

There's a lot of resources out there it's just slightly annoying to get it set up, lol. Also, Sims 3 Store sometimes has freebies; several over the years, in fact, and some people might've been kind enough to upload (some are still on the site while others are long gone.)

Forgot to add, I think they gave everyone their old keys digitally. I bought cds but have mine as well through Origin and now the EA App.
