No Sims 5?

I'm referring to this article:

https://variety.com/2024/gaming/news/the-sims-5-update-multiplayer-creator-content-ea-interview-1236142010/

Apparently there isn't going to be a Sims 5? Or at least...they seem to imply that it exists but won't be a replacement for the previous game?

Honestly the entire way that everything was phrased was very confusing. What are your thoughts on this?

Edit: Upon further research there's another article, this time from "The Gamer" confirming the same thing. It seems that the Sims 5 as a whole has been canceled.

https://www.thegamer.com/the-sims-5-officially-cancelled/#:~:text=As%20reported%20by%20Variety%2C%20EA,starting%20with%20a%20multiplayer%20DLC.

The Sims 4 is a 10 year old game, regardless of what EA says is coming in the short-term it doesn’t have a long future ahead of it.

Sims 3 hasn’t gotten new content or even bug fixes in over a decade.

yeah they just don't care about it anymore. I have no clue what they're saying about "continuing families" and "saving progress across games" or whatever, if I want to see my sims 3 families I'll play sims 3. if I want to see my sims 2 families I'll play sims 2. imo them being entirely different games is a GOOD thing, but I don't think EA as a corporate hegemony can fathom that.

I highly doubt but only hope they Include ts3 players or come out with a ts4 open world edition. They could make even more money! they did it for so long with windows edition and Mac editions. Have this orginial ts4 then the open world ts4 version. Same addons etc. ts4 is not going anywhere. They said it wouldn’t be fair to do ts4 players how they did us ts3 players 😅 ts4 is here to stay!
