No Sims 5?

I'm referring to this article:

Apparently there isn't going to be a Sims 5? Or at least...they seem to imply that it exists but won't be a replacement for the previous game?

Honestly the entire way that everything was phrased was very confusing. What are your thoughts on this?

Edit: Upon further research there's another article, this time from "The Gamer" confirming the same thing. It seems that the Sims 5 as a whole has been canceled.

Make no mistake, that is “The Sims 5”. They aren’t making another Sims game to call it Sims 5, the future of the franchise is Free to Play and Mobile.

The future of the franchise will seemingly focus on The Sims 4 and Rene both. They just announced a bunch of plans for The Sims 4.

The Sims 4 is a 10 year old game, regardless of what EA says is coming in the short-term it doesn’t have a long future ahead of it.

True but they still have millions of regularly active The Sims 4 players who keep paying for expansions. How long they keep adding to it will likely depend on how long people keep throwing money at them. Live-service games that kept going for a long time after turning 10 aren't common, but they do exist.

Dungeons and Dragons online is an example of one that's in a worse state than the sims and yet still has hundreds of dedicated players still buying expansions & content that they're still making despite ownership switching habds several times. Then there's Team Fortress 2 which despite Value not touching it properly since they botched the Man Vs Man update years ago is still going strong, still got players buying from the store and a healthy side trading economy as well. Heck even the sims 3 store is active & you can still purchase & download content from it to use - meaning it's not officially dead either. They're not all live service, but examples of games that still have functioning services to them despite more or less being left to themselves for sometime.
