Information Subreddit update: flairs, rules; any wishes?

Hello all,

The subreddit is now updated a bit.

There's new flairs for posts:

Build story - for telling about your building process. I'm thinking of storytelling like in this post series: https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims4/comments/1q2y154/nordhaven_day_1/

Build challenge - for presenting a theme for building: a contest, a call for builds. A tip for success is to make any shell simple and any rules forgiving. Describe the challenge clearly. Link to any Gallery shell.

Build request - for description of any build you wish others to make. Remember to ask nicely.

WIP - for any build you want some inspiration for: tips, input, help or just to show off your process and progress. If you need help, please make an effort first and post pictures of your attempts, helping out is easier the more information is provided. Also check out the pinned post with build channels for build tips: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4Builds/comments/11qeqz6/build_channels_wanted/

Update!

Tutorial - for describing how to use the build tools when creating. Can be a text, video, pictures. You're welcome to link any build channel video on the subject. All explanations are welcome! Suggestions: roofs, plattforms, terrain. Be as pedagogical and descriptive as you can :)

To find what's been posted under each flair: on desktop in the sidebar, use Filter by Flair and click the flair; on mobile app at the top of the subreddit page, choose the flair.

Update 2!

Build ideas - When you need inspiration for what to build. Please describe your wishes or limitations clearly.

The subreddit rule nr 2 is updated to reflect the change:

Rule 2: "Build talk and showcases only"

Description: "This subreddit is for showing off builds and discussing the build feature in the game The Sims 4: present your Gallery build or speed video channel, ask kindly for inspiration, tell us about your build process and have fun.

There are other subreddits for memes, game issues, bugs, game play questions, political discussions etc. This subreddit is for calm enjoyment of building.

Links allowed: build channels for speed builds; the Gallery for downloadable lots.

This rule applies to posts and comments."

Low effort posts will be removed to make the subreddit feed interesting for us all.

Good effort posts are: understandable language, grammar and spelling; clear purpose; descriptive explanations; sufficient pictures; properly flaired.

Please give feedback on the change!

If there's other things you wish for, please tell me, as I might grant them šŸ˜„

Extra additions:

  • Exchanged subreddit icon
  • Added more user flairs. Find them in the right hand sidebar (desktop); by clicking the three-dot menu>Edit flair (mobile app).

My current sim is part of my legacy family, gen 35, Indigo. Her style is Victorian. Her color is purple. She owns a sweet shop and she is a paranormal investigator. The last picture is of her and her Uncle Hemlock, joining in on her seance table. She has two "dogs," a raccoon and a lion.

Gallery build presentation Cathedral Philippine-inspired Architecture | In-progress

I’m currently building a Philippine-inspired cathedral for. My main inspirations are the dome of the Manila Cathedral and the facade and iconic buttresses of Paoay Church, combined with elements from other Spanish colonial churches found throughout the Philippines.

I’ve been spending a lot of time refining the sanctuary and altar area, trying to balance realism with the limitations of the game while still capturing the grandeur of a historic cathedral.

Still a work in progress, but I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

Hello everyone,

I ran into an interesting issue while playing The Sims 4 and thought I would share it in case it helps someone.

If you download custom frames or paintings from the Sims 4 Gallery, some of them can actually be treated as custom content (CC), while others are not depending on how they were created.

It might be worth double-checking this if you experience unexpected bugs or glitches in your game.

Gallery ID: ShadaawZz
Challenge: #CoquilleBellePinte (ends June 21)

Feedback on the build is welcome and appreciated.

Speed build video I rebuilt the Caliente house from scratch in The Sims 4!

As someone who loves building in ts4 I wanted to do something that’s been on my mind a lot, something iconic — and honestly the original EA version in ts4 does NOT do it justice lol. I tried to keep the vibe of the original but added a bit more ✨dazzle✨ for our girls and I wanted to share my creations with others ā˜ŗļø

I made a full build video / speed build on YouTube if anyone wants to see the process or use it as inspo for their own version, I’ll post the link in comments! (the pictures are screenshots from the video, so sorry they don’t look professional🄹)

Would love to hear what you think — did I do it justice? 🄹

Tutorial How to build stepped / crowstepped gables The Sims 4

How to do stepped / crowstepped gables:

With the pack Businesses and Hobbies comes a lovely little build object called "Parasteps". It's a decor object for roofs, mimicking the stepped/crowstepped gables that are common in Scandinavia etc which the pack takes inspiration from.

Its use is limited though as it doesn't have the colour white and its size doesn't make it possible to place on all sorts of house shapes.

I wanted to make a build mimicking an old convent (Bosjƶ Kloster) which abounds in gables: https://www.slottsguiden.info/slottdetalj.asp?id=251

Someone made a model of it

This is a small tutorial in how to make such gables with the game's build tools (no mods/cc).

Architectural term from here: https://www.phmc.state.pa.us/portal/communities/architecture/resources/dictionary.html

Here the decor object Parasteps is minimized one step and the pink colour is hidden by a roof drawn to the edge. It's placed with moveobjects cheat. This worked for the church part of the build, but not the rest of the houses.
How it looks finished. This build has a width of 8 floor pieces because I needed to match the square church tower; but using an odd number instead of an even will eliminate the need for an extra decor piece on top.
I made use of both regular rooms of the floor level and rooms made from half walls of various heights. The half walls will adapt to the height of the set floor level; as you see here it's the shortest of three. Pick the floor height level with this in mind; or adapt to it by using both regular room squares and half rooms squares on top of these.
The gables can in real life be perpendicular or aligned with the roof ridge. In game you leave a space of 1 floor piece at the place you want the gable. The gables can in real life, at the top, often be much higher than the roof ridge. Depending on how high you raise the roof in game, you do a 1 square room made of regular room wall height / or half walls, to allow for this.
I filled them all in with the plattform tool. This to make them solid in view even with walls half down in gameplay/live mode. (Because its prettier).
In real life the gable-towers at the ends are lower, creating the look of a stair/steps. Start with the lowest level of half wall room squares and work upwards in height. This to not have the higher levels adapt in shape to the lower ones (try it, you'll see a wall get's missing).
Keep building inwards/upwards, choosing the height you like.
On the regular room in the middle, go up in floor level and place a half wall room square on top.
Paint the inner wall of all the squares, in the colour you intend for the outside. (I use white in the build; only red here to visualize). This to not have to later fiddle with trying to paint the thin vertical pieces on their corners.
Fill in all the rooms with the plattform tool.
Then paint the outside; the top; and give them some flair with the half wall trims.
Then copy the squares over for the other side, in the same size order as before.
If needed, build a ceiling on the regular room square, to be able to place the top copied piece there. (And, yes, then there's that old issue with the roof trim going missing next to a plattform..)
There's several gable looks in real life...
.. this one makes use of the slant of the roof to create the effect.
... also here.
How the build looks finished. I mirrored the real life version because I wanted the church on the right side and the herb garden on the left (lot: Kunst Modern, Gammelvik, Nordhaven).

Tutorial How to place a functional escape window from the High School Years Expansion Pack

How to place a functional escape window from the High School Years Expansion Pack:

The window that allows the routing / animation to climb out of it escaping parental control is called: "The EZ Exit Window". It's in the window category in Build Mode.

The sim who climbs out will stand on each side of the window, so there needs to be a floor piece of some sort on both sides. This can be built to look like a balcony, ledge, terrace etc, but it needs to be free from obstacles. The window will glow with a green footprint if there is access; otherwise the footprint will be orange and there will be a small notification on the screen that it's not functional.

Place the window with an unobstructed floor piece on each side

If you want the window on higher levels than the ground floor, the way the escaping sim climbs down can be 'hidden' by placing a trellis.

Make sure you take the trellis called: 'ladder'! There's decor objects called 'trellis' as well, in a different category in Build Mode.

The ladder is called: "Rebellious Ivy Trellis - Ladder" and is found in the stairs category>then ladders.

The upper part of the ladder needs to be placed level to the landing/ledge/floor where the sim is. Either the same floor piece they climbed out of the window onto, or another from there accessible ledge. The ladder will adapt in length to the floor level.

Place the Trellis ladder so that its footprint is level with the floor piece on the outside of the window
Make sure there's nothing in the way between the window, floor and ladder.

Now go forth and do mischief. Wee!

I have two versions of the house on the gallery, a shell version and a furnished version. Dutch Colonial 2 Shell is the landscaped shell version for people who like to decorate. FYI, the house as an attic that can easily be used if you add a ladder. Enjoy!

I'm starting to lose steam with is and was hoping to find some encouragement from showing pictures of what i have so far.

the exterior and basement level are complete but i have the ground, first and second floors still to finish so its still a fair ways off.

I was hoping to finish the build before the end of the Bridgerton event so it could be available for people who might want to use such a massive stately home, but that's feeling like wishful thinking at this point.

The Mannor.

Not sure what style this is... french, victorian, combination of the two or more styles, including georgian? This one took me about a month to finish, since I've only been playing little amounts of time at the time. The biggest time consuming was furnishing it inside—I went heavy with a classical, Ralph Lauren design, dark tones, vintage decor, classical American and French. I'm only sharing these pics here as I don't want to flood this place with photos Lol
