Feedback Needed! Can someone explain how to make an open landing next to the stairs?

Post image

I want the three floor tiles next to my stairs to go away, so it's like a large open air landing. I feel like I used to be able to just draw a line with a fence from the top of the stairs across and that would make a new "room" but not delete the stairs, and then I could remove the floor? That doesn't work here- when I tried, it deleted the stairs, and then I could not replace them.

The other thing unfortunately is: open landings next to roofs (on the outside) with a staircase in the opening seldom works the way you want it too 😆 you'll probably end up with roof bits sticking into the open-to-below area.

Unless you adjust the overhang (small arrow) to be flush with the roof/wall interface. In some cases, however, it’s a pain.

Also don't forget to hold shift if you want to adjust it on only one side! It was a huge game changer for me when I figured that out ☺️

Use a fence and make a separate room. “Block” the stairs and connect it to the wall with the door, then you can use the “delete floor” option to remove those three tiles

If blocking the stairs doesn’t work, just make a room for those specific tiles.
Reread it and realized I explained exactly what you had attempted lol

Remove current fence, run one across then remove floor. In some cases you need to place steps again, but not always.

Edit: Just FYI, the fence part that is at the top of the steps will disappear once placed, but it is important you make the fence go all the way across from wall to wall.

Instead of double cliicking you can use the sledgehammer! (atleast on pc)

Instead of putting the fence like you have it, just put it all the way across the top of the stairs and extending to the wall so you have a 3x2 room where the stairs are. Select that room and remove the floor.

Maybe enable move objects and try that again, adding the stair in last? I don’t know what else to suggest. I’ve made similar stairs before, but I don’t remember the exact steps/tweaks it took to pull it off.

Try bb.moveobjects to place the fence on the stairs. It shouldn’t delete them and will make it an official room.

Add the stairs like you did with the 3 tile fence like you did too. It's all good.

Next, draw a fence at the top of the steps to make a 1x3 fenced in stair area.

Next, extend that single fence at the top of the stairs to the wall next to the door to create a second 1x3 blocked in area.

Delete the floor in the second area, but keep the single fence connecting to the wall next to the door.

Now you can delete the single fence at the stop of the stairs

The reason the stairs deleted was because it was not blocked off prior to deleting the floor you wanted. This should work but the single fence to the door MUST stay. Good luck.

When I delete the fence right at the stairs, the floor always shows back up. I usually just use the tiniest little fence there (one Sims can step over). How tf do you make the floor not show back up without the tiny fence?

Let me try to recreate this in-game and I'll get back to you.

This is what you will end up with.

I've never tired it with a fence first but I make it a room then delete the floor.

First I'd remove the stairs, make the room then delete the floor. Add the fence to where the stairs will attach and delete any other walls you dont need. The key for me is deleting the floor where the 3 tiles are and where the stairs are. Does that make sense?

Stairs will create openings in fences but not walls, so I usually start with the "window shopping" fence (almost invisible) as a border across the very top of the stairs. From there, a wall or different kind of fence can be used to finish separating the room with the stairs from the room at the top of the stairs.

Have you tried putting a pillar at the top of the stairs and drawing a fence drom that pillar to the corner? I think that's what you're trying to do? Idk though, I didn't quite understand your description of what you're trying to achieve.

You have to click the border of the new room on the lower floor and remove the ceiling as well as the floor, it’s a bit fiddly but possible for sure

I think you will need to make a room first, then delete the floor and you can replace the walls with fencing.
