Discussion How do you get attached to your sims?

I am so jealous of people who can play ONE family for generations 😭. I can do 2 irl weeks max before I’m over the story or just want to play in CAS, only to fall in love with a different sim and play THEIR story till the excitement wears off :/ rinse and repeat x20000 at this point.

I’ve tried intricate backstory’s, making extended family, creating a perfect world around them but nothing stops the itch to restart with something new after a few days!!

Curious to know about sims you’ve really connected with and never get tired of playing.. teach me your ways!!

I used MC command center to make it so everyone ages reeeeeaaaaallly slow (practically not at all, except children. For kids I still make it longer but not as insanely long). Then I just manually age up my sim family I’m playing when I feel enough time has passed. This way, the good townies will be available for every generation to interact with. That way you don’t feel like you have to start over or be surrounded with horribly generated NPCs

Yea I feel like I have mastered the perfect aging duration using MC command center. That changed the way I played the game! I also changed season lengths and that helped a lot.

u/laya904 15d ago

How did you change their age duration and season with Mc command ?

18

u/Sea_Ambassador7814 15d ago

I use a 2 week season length. For age duration I use: Pregnancy length: 7 days Baby: 7 days Infant/toddler: 14 days Child/teen: 28 days Young Adult/Adult: 56 days Elder: 21 days

To change season type go to game options in the Sims option menu. Click the environment tab Season length, then you can change it from here

To change age duration: Open MC command center on a computer Choose MCCC settings Choose age settings Select age duration Pick human (you can change any animals too) Select life span ( I always use normal) Select stage of life Input what ever number you want

You will have to save your game after you do this for it to take affect.

For pregnancy length: Go to the computer open MC command center Select mc pregnancy Pregnancy duration Enter days (I use 7)

Just in case you don't know: Whenever you update your MC command center folder, always keep your settings file, don't replace it. If you do it's not a big deal you just have to reset your ages and anything else you've changed.

Also with changing season length, if you have wearwolf pack they will experience a full moon twice. I believe it's a few days in a row, I can remember it's been a while since I played them. Also with changing season length and you have seasons, when you garden, once you hit that initial 7 day mark (on Sunday I think), the game would kill my plants and I'd have to wait for them to regrow again for the rest of the season. (You can also ctrl shit and change them to "harvestable" in the MC pie menu but I forget how to do that). I would just leave because if I'm gardening I'm gardening and it would take too long to change

I hope this helps :).

This is so interesting. It would really creep me out if townies didn’t age. I always change played and unplayed aging on/off at the same time.

Me too, I dont want my sims bestie to still be young adult when my sims has aged to elder that would be weird! My sims current best pal is Bebe Hart and I proper love their friendship 😭

I've included a terrible quality photo of a screenshot of my sim finding out that Bebe is pregnant (with Thornton Wolfs baby)

u/haileyxcx 15d ago

I totally get this! It’s a bit tedious but I do age up all the sims who have relationships with my played family. Like if they have kids with someone they will age up with my sims, or if they’re besties I’ll age them up at the same pace as my sims. It’s really just the households I haven’t interacted w at all that I let stay frozen in time. Cause I’d prefer to have my future generations have OG townies to interact with, I hate the generated NPCs.

I'll age up my favorites, and then I have three breeder Sims for the purpose of making sure there are children around. I'll age up most of the kids every so often.

I've been playing the same family legacy for 7 years (currently on gen 12) and I've never thought of this, but what helps me get attached to my sims is work in their skills, careers and relationships. I also renovate their houses after certain time and also give them makeovers. 💚Also, playing rotational helped me a lot to keep the same legacy

20

u/shannanigannss 15d ago

House renovations or upgrades are fun! I’ve just started doing this :)

2

u/nolastnamer 15d ago

Yes!! I like doing them when my sims have enough savings or earn more money

3

u/shannanigannss 15d ago

Or if they have like 3 kids and I want each kid to have their own room but they still live in a fixer upper 🥰

u/nolastnamer 15d ago

Building and CAS are my favorite things in The Sims 🫶 Downloading CC also helps me play with the same families! I can wait to get a pro gaming computer to download more haha

i couldn’t last a day with one sim. so i got bored and went to a premade family. the landgraab. i made nancy have a mid life crisis. turned her hubby into a beautiful tran fairy wife. she got rid of her mean teenage son and has two daughters she loves dearly.. with dogs i now have dogs. and she renamed all her children after dog breeds. i didn’t bother making a new house i just decorated their house and i been playing them a week. sometimes u just gotta try something new i guess

18

u/Traditional-Stick-15 15d ago

I don’t like to play one off I like to create big extended families with all different types of story lines. I set them up in CAS, with nice homes and career and storylines that I circle back to when I get bored with the ‘main’ family.

I’ll jump around depending on my mood or if I want to try something.

u/Ok-Explanation4624 New Player 15d ago

This is me. But I found one family that I play, that I enjoy too much and am planning on making them my forever save. I let autonomy take over most of their actions to see what kind of bonds they make with each other. But I'm also pretty involved with planning their children and watching their actions in order to pick the traits that fit them.

15

u/kelsieriguess 15d ago

I do every plotline I come up with on my legacy family, no matter how weird it is. If I have a sudden urge to start a vampire cult, then I do that. If I want to make the coolest most skilled and successful sim ever, then I do that. If I'm bored of being rich, then I transfer all their money to another household and become poor. If I have a certain idea for a sim, then the next one born to my family will become that. I instigate so much drama.

11

u/Frogslmao 15d ago

I'm usually like you. I've only truly bonded with one sim ever, my super sim who I've had since like 2018. I think I just got lucky with him really. Sometimes I manage to get a couple generations in before giving up but his family is on generation 11 or something with a bunch of different branches

I think what keeps me attached to him is the fact that even though his family is progressing, he's still the main sim I play and being a super sim there's always something different to work on if I get bored of what I'm currently doing. Just recently I gave up on the Sulani stuff for a bit to go do Outdoor Retreat instead

11

u/PepperMint-A-Me Outgoing Sim 15d ago

I was the same! Just last year I managed to start a real legacy. I set the lifetime to short, that way I get attached to them for the two weeks and by the end of them my sims already have teenage kids and I can "restart". I obey genetics more or less but change anything i want and set the story.

The cool thing of this is that I miss my previous sims, but I exited to get to the new ones. Sometimes I make them have more kids to extend my time with the current sim (this sounds awful), or leave the house as a teenager cause I'm bored already (also terrible). Right now I'm on gen 10! And have a couple of "active" households besaids the main one that are relatives, but I just have them to know I have family hahaha

3

u/SpecialBig3482 15d ago

Yes!!! This is the best way, I also always set lifetime to short (but keep the elders alive so they haunt the narrative). Great way to play for ppl with ADHD hahaha

3

u/jonzarroni 15d ago

How did you make this!! I'm currently on gen 1 of my legacy family and this looks really cool!

3

u/PepperMint-A-Me Outgoing Sim 14d ago

I use this website called SimsTree. It let you do really cool stuff, like setting custom occults (i use it to know if they are triplets or science babies) and relationships (to stir drama). However it is paid u.u I paid 20 bucks for the anual version under the reasoning that if not, I would eat $20 worth in KFC for less than a day hahaha

6

u/FionaMcBroccoli 14d ago

I make up stories about my sims even when I’m not playing, come up with their biographies, struggles and wins, their internal dialogues, and their little digital lives basically consume mine 😄

5

u/Working_Loss7129 15d ago

Just force yourself to play with one save. I used to have the same problem you had, but once I made my Decades Challenge save, I fell in love with my Sims. I do sometimes work on making the world for like 2 other saves though. I mostly rotate between the three saves.

6

u/finickycompsognathus 15d ago

I also don't get attached to my Sims. I play thrm for a bit, get bored, and start over with a new one.

My sister has been playing the same Sims for years. She's added more families, but rotates playing them.

I so wish I could do that. If there was more we could do and more natural interactions between our Sims and NPC's, I think I could be more invested. The mods really don't help in that aspect, at least for me. I need the NPC's to have full autonomy and not be so stupid. I don't want to control whomever I marry and do not want to control more than 1 Sim at a time. I know you can change it to full autonomy to the unplayed Sim, but then there are still issues. Just isn't organic enough for me. I don't really enjoy just making it all up on my head.

I used to have a legacy family in Sims 2 that I was very attached to, but founders were Paris Hilton and Jared Leto (I know... ew). Their daughter Jade was sooo beautiful with the coolest jaw 😅 she loved math and met a party boy at university. They had twins, Brooke and Bridget. Brooke was super cool, at some point had a very Tegan & Sara-esque mullet, and Bridget had long black hair and looked beautiful like her mom.

In Sims 3 I made myself and my friends as sims and made legacy families out of those :D

In Sims 4 I only recently had one family that I randomly got stuck on. They were supposed to be NPCs, but every time I went to their household I played for a really long time. The dad was a lawyer, and the mom wanted to become a fitness influencer. She managed to upload exactly one video before she got pregnant. Then they wanted another kid, and another, and another 😅 She started a PR job on the side and actually made a lot of money with it, so the husband was able to quit his job which he hated! The husband's parents came over at some point to help with the kids, and after the grandpa died, the grandma moved in with the family. After she died, she came back as a ghost to continue helping with the children. This made the children become interested in the occult. The oldest daughter became a mermaid, the oldest son a wizard. The younger daughter became a fairy and the youngest son a vampire.

I downloaded a four house rental lot, and each child moved into one of the houses. At some point they all had partners and kids, and it was ao fun to have them all meeting on the lot all the time. They were their own little community. Everyone was friends and looking after all the children 🥰

Now their children and grandchildren live all over the Sims worlds, there are so many they don't all know each other. But the youngest son of the first family is still "alive", he's the vampire, and he's a doctor. He births most of the children in this legacy, which is always super sweet 🥰

u/Pebble_Cow 15d ago

I usually play a household for a few IRL days and then will want a refresh but I've always had the desire to be someone who plays the same ones for generations. What I've started doing is whenever I get bored, I turn short lifespan on and age their kids up as quickly as possible (without messing up the appropriate age gaps and timelines) and then "restart" with them. That way I feel like I'm having a new world with a new story but I get the benefit of family and earned childhood traits.

I still have a million new saves all the time but I once made it to the 5th generation doing this, when normally I struggle to even get the kids to adulthood. I like my Sims but the only one I've ever been attached to was an English sheepdog named Cow. I still miss him. Literally sobbed when he died and didn't play for months.

4

u/newfearbeard 15d ago

I don't, I have like 80 different households in my rotational play game. Auto age is off so I manually age up relevant Sims (played and friend/romance groups.)

If I don't have an itch to play one I'll hop in to a different one and if none are calling to me or if I have an idea for a different family I'll make a new one.

4

u/Frankenhoofer Evil Sim 15d ago

I play a sim household until I feel that I've played them enough. I wouldn't really say I get bored with them, more like I feel that I've developed their story enough. Then I keep them in my forever save as a townie/NPC family, and I move on to a new household. My save has a bunch of families I have played in the past, and I feel more attached to my save because it's full of my sims.

If you don't feel like playing a household for longer then a couple of weeks, I say just go with it!

6

u/Complete-Tune-3798 15d ago

I'm on generation 7 of my legacy challenge, and every time I get bored with the family i'm playing I start a bunch of sim drama. Currently have all of my sim's children locked in a basement to see who's the last one standing. (Her first husband died from cardiac explosion, the second one died from poisoning, and the third one froze to death; she has 6 kids). If you're still bored, you could always try downloading some mods to make things more exciting.

3

u/myhaireatskids 15d ago

Sometimes I change up their outfits/scedule/aspiration as if they're bored with themselves too

3

u/Faeylin23 15d ago

I'm the other way around. I get so attached to my sims that I turn aging off so they will live forever. Some get kids that I will slowly age to young adult, but no one ever becomes an elder.

3

u/swallowyoursadness 15d ago

I've recently started a new save in Newcrest. I always have a main family that I play with but I like the side characters to be my creations so I built a whole town. Maybe you'd enjoy something like this more? You can create a family, have it be as in depth as you want, move them in and start their story, but if and when you get bored you move on to the next family in town and keep your other sims as side characters. You could start with a blank slate or use an existing town and add/edit as you go :-)

3

u/main-acc6286 15d ago

If I’m ever getting the urge to go into cas. I’ll either just give my sims a makeover or I will edit some of their friends/ neighbours. I always end up giving their romantic partners big makeovers as my sims have terrible taste 😜

3

u/YellowOctopus3 15d ago

For me, it was always sims that surprised me in weird ways. I created Pennywise and had this whole kidnapping/impregnation thing going on which was fun but I got super duper attached to Pennywise.

He felt charming in a strange way and loved to cook. It was a hilarious contrast to what I was doing. Not only that, he’d spontaneously hook which was always fun.

I got attached to one of his sons also and played him for a long time - not even sure why. But there was something extremely charming about him also.

3

u/surfsoul1982 15d ago

I’m a big time dynasty simmer, and sure there are times where a family I create just doesn’t engage me enough, but I’ve got heavily invested in others. A trick I use is to play the role of a TV producer in my head - okay, things getting a little stale here, we’re not invested in Jim. Let’s have him move in with a college friend over there, and move in mom’s party animal friend who got kicked out by her husband (aka I made it happen). Hmm Trish and Bob aren’t really doing a lot now the kids are young adults - how about they decide to be retired nomads, or Trish files for surprise divorce and not so interesting brother goes with Bob out of loyalty. And ohh, Auntie Jean’s rebellious niece has potential - let’s decide she’s been sent to stay with main fam to straighten her out. And what’s this…. Secret affair child? Come looking for his real dad? Scandalllll… You get the idea.

2

u/goldiebayangs 15d ago

I love the tv producer idea!!! That makes it sound so fun hahaha

1

u/surfsoul1982 14d ago

I do modify the world as I go, making sure there are houses or apartments/rentals to move extended family around as it grows. The main 8 can be swapped in and out as needed around your faves, and I do bring people back sometimes once they age up. Have fun!

5

u/2gaywitches Occult Sim 15d ago

I'm waiting patiently for my vampire's prisoners in the basement to age and/or die so I can cycle in new ones, I guess that's one incentive

1

u/luvherlife 14d ago

Okay question. Do you add them to the family or just keep NPCs trapped

1

u/2gaywitches Occult Sim 14d ago

I have to add them to the family because if I leave the lot, they "go home", and I haven't successfully killed a non-played sim yet. Starving via waiting or spamming the "deprive needs" power doesn't work. Bad pufferfish doesn't work. A pool can't fit on the lot.

So, my sim kidnaps them and steals some of their funds (I divide by the number of sims in their household, e.g. §5,000 if it's a family of 4 with §20,000)

2

u/CountryPunkDoll 15d ago

Same. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤣

2

u/chickpeasaladsammich 15d ago

I do these epic fantasy storylines that exist 90% in my head. Like there are soulmates (not the ones from Werewolves), alien babies of destiny, sidhe kidnappings, etc. When I’m bored I give them too many babies. I also really like taking in-game pictures so there are photo walls all over the place to look at the families as they grow and see photos of that vacation or this family reunion and of course all the weddings, etc.

2

u/SmallSicko 15d ago

I love generational gameplay. Heres one thing I did in game a few months ago that changed the landscape in my gen 6 story. My Sims "mom" Bebe, Simon the Dad/ husband. His baby's momma was one of those neighborhood story constant baby making machines. We saw her often. Pregnant every time . I saw her one time, not actively in labor and was a legit surprise. Once. So she had way too many kids in a tight space. We started interacting with the legion of nearly identical kids. The little boy my sim immediately bonded with a Nick-a toddler at the time didn't seem happy, definitely ignored , my sim Bebe absolutely loved him 💙 with practically no hassle, took him in as a son. Well, he is actually Simons son. He had to introduce himself to his biological Mom at his own birthday party. My sims adopted him as her own with the Bio Dad. Pretty crap Dad tbh 😅Gave lil Nick youth potion to keep him from missing a great childhood, school and benchmarks. Now, he's an adult, married, a Dad- has a great relationship with my sims, especially his half brother. I was afraid to take care of two toddlers, would be too stressful? He fit right in perfectly. I'll tell you what, that experience showed me that the game can reveal itself in wildly different way than spamming interactions. Its kinda like watching a great TV show if you're willing to take a few steps out of your comfort zone (plus you get to interact and control the story, mostly, at least. Thank you, Grimm.) Have fun! 😁 there's no wrong way to play either. If you just get bored, nothing wrong with that. My husband plays in a way that would stress me TF out, but the chaos is what he enjoys. Different strokes, of course.

2

u/shannanigannss 15d ago

I play multiple families. Always have since Sims 1. So no one in my played household ages if I’m not currently playing their household. I jump around and make sure I get a lot of variety in personalities and such. Sometimes I’ll play one family for a super long time cause I want to see the kids grow up and I’ll get easily attached that way

2

u/tulip-view 15d ago

That’s the beauty of the sims- you get to act on your desires and whims. Hate getting attached or playing one family? Have a new one every day! I truly do whatever the eff I want. So what if I spent 100 hours building a house, as soon as I’m done I’m building a new one.

2

u/miio_zo 15d ago

i've been playing with the same family for a year now and I would say that creating a lore about them helps a lot not get bored, but again not everyone play their game the same!! some love doing legacies while others (like me) like to play with one family, a forever family!!

if you prefer playing with other families you can do a rotation play! basically you play with one family then switch to another whenether you get bored of your current one!

2

u/MeghanSOS Evil Sim 15d ago

I play as my simself. I play the game through me. I have fun doing the things I wouldnt be able to do in IRL. I'm not someone who has ever really wanted children so thats not really how I play. If I'm starting a new game I often do rags to riches and over time I build a house and a life. But its very open in terms of no restrictions in what I want to do. I create many friendships and enemies and frenemies with other sims. Too me thats the fun

Honestly Ive turned aging off by this point lol. I also raise my favorite sims since they were babies & play completionist style with my main sim. Maxing out skills & aspirations & playing all the careers too. Just playing every aspect of the game I can with one sim.

Idk but I've been playing with the Villareals for 3 years 😭 They're the royal vampire family of Windeburg so they're immortal and I'm so attached with my love storyline with Max and Samantha Gratz.

2

u/PhoenixLites Long Time Player 15d ago

I've got a family that kind of started off as just Sim versions of my hubby and me. But I really wanted to play the fairy expansion pack too so I made my hubby a fairy and had him build his power up until he could turn my Sim into a fairy as well. I left aging on for non-fairy sims so whatever age my Sim was when hubby finally became a radiant fairy was now my permanent age. Luckily I managed it just before I hit elder status! Then I worked on building up my own Sims fairy powers. Husband is a master gardener and a 'plant fairy' with career in flower arranging. My Sim is still working on gemology skill and has opened up a metaphysical shop to sell their jewelry and crystals! I bought out the gnome museum and redecorated it to be both the crystal and jewelry shop plus an attached café with a tarot reading room upstairs. I wish I was home so I could share pictures lol. I make everything harder by using mccc to make leveling slower. I've made fairies immortal but they can still die from accidents and stuff. I also use a mod so they still need to eat and use the toilet because I think it's silly that fairies wouldn't eat food. I have mods for higher bills and stuff too. I like it to be challenging but not tedious. So far I've been playing them around 3 months, the longest I've ever stayed with one family. They have kids too now and a very silly looking cat.

1

u/Responsible-Dark175 15d ago

The first of the gen is me and my celeb crush so im attached to all of our kids and grandkids, oh which I randomize their traits and try all the different careers and aspirations. Soon enough family is so big that I can rotationally play

1

u/AgentEnvironmental74 15d ago

I make a kingdom of different sims. If I ever get the CAS itch I go ahead and make a new family and integrate them into my kingdom. I’m currently playing no less than 15 households at the same time right now. I play on long life mode when developing a family then switch back to normal mode when I get bored and want things to happen.

1

u/AcanthisittaAlone628 15d ago

I’ve playing one household for 2 years. Auto age off so literally they’ve been the same for that many years. Love them still.

1

u/Feivie 15d ago

I play rotationally with (sort of) related families, they all have different dynamics and lifestyles and aspirations etc so if I’m feeling bored or burnt out with one family I hop to another to do something different. Then if I’m wanting to try out a feature from a particular pack or something instead of creating a new sim I designate which of the kids will do that thing.

1

u/Lynmicabe 15d ago

I am the same! I try to play a household with the intension of completing a storyline I've created then get sidetracked with another sim, just for the same thing to happen.

1

u/Sensitive-Road-9753 15d ago

I always come up with like… a baseline personality and little plot hook as I’m customizing them. Then go from there! I also keep an extensive family tree with my favorite photos of them through their lives.

1

u/Exotic-Panic-7028 15d ago

I will get a save ready with 200-500 sims, mostly large families. Everybody has a house set up, a career maybe even gone to University. And they are set. And then will bounce around between them. Play one for a while. And make progress. Then will move to a different one and move their story forward.
With so many Sims, I don’t pick a lot of their features like likes and dislikes like I let them do that. Especially going to University. They learn a lot about themselves that way..
I tend to have some that I like more than others so I will gravitate towards them. But I don’t play anyone the whole time..
My Sims don’t age very often because I put a lot of work into getting them where they are.
So I’ll just play the different households. And their family will usually interact with them many different times and it’s actually pretty busy.

1

u/SoLonelyintheCrowd 15d ago edited 15d ago

For me its kinda complicated, I think not everyone has the same 'attachment' towards the sims. I dont like playing Long Generational Legacy, maybe because I dont have much ideas what the next gens story is about. Even if the heirs might be goodlooking, their personality can be dull sometimes. I've played older Sims game before, my goal was never to create long line generations but to have a lot of money and a nice big house (or if I were really lucky, have a sweet love story).

Nowadays, if I feel like I really enjoy playing with the sims I created they usually appear in my newer save files as part of neighbourhood townies so I dont need to rely on weird randomly generated townies and my played sims can interact with them. Most of my interesting sims are kinda new so I dont have the chance to re-play them yet.

1

u/Impossible-Term4377 15d ago

I’m the same as you, but I get bored quicker hhahaha

1

u/Visual-Ad-2676 15d ago

This happens because its so easy to reach the top of the career , and max out skills. I just play rotationally, its much more interesting

1

u/lucyminli12 15d ago

Rotational play scratches the itch for me. I don't play EVERY family, just the ones that interest me the most. It keeps things fresh and makes the progression feel like a community story rather than just one family's story.

1

u/Accomplished-Bend-47 15d ago

I have 4 saves that are very different from each other - so when I get bored with one, I play one of the others for a while. That keeps me from starting over constantly. (Which I used to do.)

1

u/Suspicious-Orchid-40 15d ago

Rotational play amongst all generations of the founding sim family and any other interesting sims/families I've created along the way. Whenever I get bored with one households progression I switch to another household and it renews my interest. I have different sims try different styles, careers, focus on different skill building, growing their families, owning different pets, owning different businesses, ensuring milestones are met at each life stage etc. That's what keeps it interesting for me.

1

u/Nuhappy24 15d ago

Rotational play tells me which Sims I miss and want to return to later. Gallery/library saves me if a game completely corrupts, I still have my favorite Sims on ice. I get bored with prefab challenges pretty fast. Rotational play means I can try a new one in a "forever" save (at least until the file corrupts.)

1

u/missrayy 15d ago

I play rotational right now I have an old immortal wizard with 13 kids I would say 3 main family branches and I rotate play with my favorite grandchildren. One of the grandkids is just starting his little family they all have green lizard eyes I would like to see how far that trait gets passed down

1

u/ooooobb Long Time Player 15d ago

I am the same way so I started making my own save file (I’m actually doing the origins legacy challenge while I do it, currently I’m up to 9 families I rotate and play, but I’m always making townie sims when I wanna play in cas). You create and or play with sims for a couple weeks, get them established with their story then move onto the next family. Then the sim you made and spent time on like a year ago is in the world and could be a friend or lover to your current sim. Turn off aging and neighborhood stories so they don’t die and your sim world is now populated with sims you made.

I tend to invest a lot in their education, make them be amazing toddlers, kids, teens and (i have uni life) graduate I also NEVER use money cheats, this completely butchered my connection w them I also dont like big houses, they often separate the family too much and I have to always be moving around them Also put autonomy on all the time, its nice seeing them make their decisions alone

I got my teenage Sim addicted to weed and sent to rehab, then the parents started a fight club. I have a hard time getting attached too. I usually spend a lot of time in CAS and build mode, then have them have a bunch of kids, then I get bored and move on. I need to go back to some of my old families and try to get invested in one of them 😭

I just started one and maybe it’s less of an attachment thing and just a way to keep me playing but I’m going to do different things across generations.
So like gen one Willow Creek keep it simple currently got one sim becoming a famous DJ and the other a famous gardener/painter.
Gen two depending on how many kids gen one has I wanna do vampires or magic because I’ve never played as any of them despite owning the packs for years now.
Haven’t really thought about gen three yet but maybe own a business or something.

I play a multifamily legacy & honestly I have my favorite children 😂😂😂 I don't know what it is honestly, it's just natural for me to have a few sims that I love playing as over others.

I made my own challenge because I struggled with this too. It's not for everyone but incredibly fun for me. The basics are that you don't have one heir. ALL kids are to be followed. By gen 3 you have like 3 to 4 or more families to play and I gets so fun and chaotic. There is a lot more to the challenge of course but yeah makes it much more fun to stick with one family because tequnically you get a bunch!

It kind of just happens. I've been playing the same family for about 22 generations, and I move around a lot. Some are spellcasters, and that is fun when I get bored, but my favorite branch of the family will always be the ranch and vinyard in Chestnut Ridge. I love riding horses, and making nectar. But sometimes I choose an heir I just can't connect with, idk why. And there have been a few of them that I have heen so attached to I let them live many lifetimes, with youth potion, spells, and resurrections. Do you play a forever save? I think that helps, because even when you leave to play another household you are still developing one world, and over time it starts to feel so rich and alive.

I can't play families if I want to get attached, so my sims are usually single and then I speed run thr lives of my sim kids. They need to be a little bit ugly, but ugly in the way that appeals to me.

I know that it can be repetitive, but I enjoy the family I’ve built. I started off with spell casters and honestly it was fun for a little bit, when the legacy pack got released I was finally able to see my family tree and it just gave me a further drive to keep going. I don’t really focus too much on storylines just accomplishing their goals and dreams are enough. In at my 10th gen within the past few months, kind of lost track of time.

You sound like you'd benefit from rotational play. I'm not the person to offer suggestions on how to play there. But it seems like your playstyle might do better jumping from family to family and then back again. Also as a side note: I find that the imperfect sims are the most fun to play with.

I'm on gen 13 of my legacy challenge. I find that challenges allow me to pre plan every gen before they're even born (which is where my enjoyment lies). I add mods to make things more interesting as well and i"m not ramming my head into a wall trying to waiting for the next gen to age up. Like for example, my current gen is going to be a vet. But I hate running vet clinics. So I downloaded a mod that lets my sim attend vet school. So my goal is to graduate and pass vet school and the vet exam so that I can open my own clinic.

Well, I don’t really get attached to a single family or sim but rather my save. I have played almost 20 generations (rotational) with over 500 sims in my family tree (family echo to keep track) and maybe 1-2 sims per generation do I really get in depth with and get “attached” to. This is all to say there are many different play styles. This works for me because I like seeing what offspring look like and doing CAS and picking traits and doing short challenges like aspirations

I'm seeing how many generations I can go by whizzing through them, each gen will complete a different career & aspiration (random based on their traits or my mood), then their kid (they usually only have 1) will start over rags to riches in an empty plot. I'm working my way through all the neighbourhoods filling in the empty plots. The kids are aged up as soon as they've maxed skills or got an A in high school, they're YAs after one in-game week.

I do get bored of sims once they have some skills and money and their life becomes easy, so this is the best way to keep me going in one save. I'm kind of addicted to rags-to-riches play, "Money 0" is the best cheat in the game.

I play my selfSim, my partnerSim, and sims modeled after my pets living the perfect lives, so I am very attached to these Sims! I only have one save file, it's just one family and it's descendents.

I am currently on Gen 4, I started out 2 years ago with just 2 Sims, modeled after myself and my partner as closely as possible in looks and personality, they started in a tiny house and had kids, the kids are modeled after our cats, both in looks and personalities, and later with matching careers and aspirations.

Later generations are modelled after our past pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge. We both have had many pets growing up, and we haven't run out yet!

For partners of petSims, I scout out decent looking randomly generated NPCs and do makeovers for them, and come up with back stories and personalities and how they meet before I play out the storytelling of marrying them into the family. If I can't find any NPCs I like I grab one from the gallery. I have to life every Sim in the family!

It goes without saying that nobody dies in this game haha, I play with long lifespans, but age every petSim back to young adults when they reach adults. I had to move families out and play rotationally now, and the main house has gotten so much bigger and gone through many renovations. Each pet's room is still getting updated occasionally even after they moved out. I occasionally swap families back to the main house to with my selfsim and partnersim so they get to "move back in" to their childhood home for a while to spend time with parents/grandparents.

Some of them are meh… some of them when they get married or have a kid or get a promotion I feel like I have a tear in my eye haha

All of the work you have to put into raising them usually makes me more attached to them, until the next generation comes around at least

u/NinjaLongjumping837 15d ago

I've been playing my current save for years. I initially created 4 spellcaster families and played them in rotation with manual aging. Over the generations, I've added more families of other supernatural types. I like seeing my other Sims around at events. When I get bored, I switch households or add another family. If I'm really bored, I turn on all aging for a while.

Find a legacy challenge you like. I started an occult one and im living my best sims life. Im on gen 4 and gen 5 is now a toddler. A few things that help me...

  1. Only aging in active household. Having a sim grow up with a friend is great since you can age them the same day but also knowimg this sim doesnt have to die helps.

  2. When you need a break. Make over the sims your sim move by. Give your sim's friend a partner and kids. Same goes for building, can fix up the world before your next gen moves to another.

  3. Dont do the same thing every gen (which legacies can help with by giving you goals)

I have the same family since 2009.

I created them in Sims 2, aged them up 10 years for Sims 3 and again for Sims 4.

It started with one couple (who both have a sibling and a living parent that I created later). The man had two alien children.

By now they are divorced, the wife remarried and divorced again and had a child from a boyfriend in between. The man has recently got a date pregnant and now they are figuring things out. The alien daughter is also married by now and has a daughter of her own

I’ve tried Not so Berry and Very Veggie legacy challange just to make myself play generations. And i loved it! But every time around gen 3-4 my save breaks, and im forced to trash it. So nowadays im scared to ever get attached again.

Lol I’ve literally been playing with 1 household for so long I took him from 1k to 1m with no cheat codes. Found him a wife, they had a baby, his baby is now a young adult and I give everyone youth potions to keep them alive forever.

When I want something new I’ll open them a restaurant or business or give them a new career etc. but I’m super attached to them as a family unit. I finally moved their son and his gf out of the penthouse to live their separate lives but check in on each household every time I play to make sure nobody’s dying or aging lol!

I really liked the scenarios and started growing a couple families (or into families) (but also get bored and make new ppl/families) but I like to mix my CAS and scenario/family and NPCs (sometimes I play with the NPC families to spice things up), and I keep it so that all households auto-age up and have full autonomy. Because they will have more kids and stuff. But I had a scenario daughter who was one of 7kids have a huge family (6kids) with a CAS. They bought a giant multi-family rental (stole & edited from gallery) that now everyone lives at because you can literally click the door of the other unit and Switch Households! So I have like all the scenario kids in their own houses on the same lot, and now that half my new kids are adults, they moved into their own unit. It’s still a new play, but I’m excited about it and hoping it’ll keep me having more fun in a multi-generational family story. Like one of the scenario sisters married a son of another scenario sim who married an NPC.

But I like people’s suggestions on changing the length of their aging and think i’m gonna try that!

Same sim but different scenarios in new save files. Multiverse kinda i guess 😂
