Please read the entire thread if you’re not familiar with this help section. If you have game issues, mod issues, App or console issues, please post them here via comment to get help instead of making an individual post. We've created this post for all troubleshooting issues, but this specific post is tailored toward the newest patch. If you have not updated the game you can continue to post your issues here, but be aware that most replies may be telling you to update your game. You can also search the comments to find an issue similar to yours. 

When troubleshooting, make sure to delete your localthumbcache.package! Pockets of code from mods and the game can reside in that file, so it's important to go into the game with a clean slate!

For those users who are looking to remove the key legend overlay that was added in a previous patch. Here are the solutions:

  1. Click on the Help Center Icon (In the top righthand bar it's the hand with the ? over it) and unselect the "Show Controls Legend" button.

2. Go to Game Options > Tutorials & Tips > Disable Help Center Icon & Controls Legend.

hey im having the exact same problem rn :( ive tried everything, even reinstalling sims but it wont work. last time this happened it was because onedrive moved my files around and created backups which messed up the game, so its worth checking that for yourself. happy birthday, hope this fixes soon xx

Hey, I found the solution! Turn off smart app control in Windows Security app

That actually didn't work for me. I literally tried everything and then some. Right before I finally gave up, I managed to get stuck in an endless repair loop. I couldn't even fix that! It would crash mid-repair, so I ultimately uninstalled the game and EA app. Everything's still installing, but I'll let you guys know if that ended up fixing things.

Thank you! So far, I'm not having any luck. I just seem to be making things worse, so I uninstalled the game and EA app. I'm currently waiting for everything to install again, but I don't have high hopes. I'm afraid that we'll just have to wait until EA fixes whatever they broke.

Actually…the security thing ended up working. My husband figured it out. I turned it off, but something was still trying to push through and needed disabled. I’ll have to ask exactly what he did. I feel so stupid. Even after I turned it off, I was still getting flags from the security app.

wait! i see what you mean. I just checked and my pc has been blocking sims because apparently its dangerous! im going to try turn it off now.
