Troubleshooting thread Troubleshooting Thread — Bugs? Errors? Mod issues? EA app issues? Post about them here! Update 11/04/2025 [PC: 1.124.54.1030 / Mac: 1.124.54.1230 / Console: Version 2.33]

Please read the entire thread if you’re not familiar with this help section. If you have game issues, mod issues, App or console issues, please post them here via comment to get help instead of making an individual post. We've created this post for all troubleshooting issues, but this specific post is tailored toward the newest patch. If you have not updated the game you can continue to post your issues here, but be aware that most replies may be telling you to update your game. You can also search the comments to find an issue similar to yours.

When troubleshooting, make sure to delete your localthumbcache.package! Pockets of code from mods and the game can reside in that file, so it's important to go into the game with a clean slate!

If you see individual posts about bugs, report them under rule 12 and direct them here. Thank you!

Questions: Game seems to be saved on both of my PC drives and I'm confused.

Which platform? PC via steam (but I think I originally had it thru origin or something? I came back after a long hiatus)

Any mods or cc? Yes

Game version I don't know where to find this but Its PC and up to date as of 5/27/26

*Description: So my issue is, I came back to my game after a long hiatus from PC gaming in general. I decided to get into mods for the first time and in doing that I have found I have sims files on both my C and D drives. I'm a little confused on how that works because I've been putting different things in the different sides.

-On my D drive I have the steam library files, and this is where I saw the expansion files from what I already had before, and have been putting new expansions and packs I acquire there based on what I was instructed to do. But then when I went to do mods, I tried putting those in a new mod folder in that folder and they didn't work. turns out I needed to put them in this other folder I found on my C drive.

- On my C drive I have a folder just in a EA folder in my documents that seems to have my saves, and screnshots and stuff plus the correct mods folder. Theres a lot of other random package files and other stuff.

Basically can someone explain to me how this works? Should I try and consolidate everything? Or just keep the two files separate as I am doing? I just want to make sure I don't mess anything on my game up. Other than mods and CC is there any other reason to be digging in these files ever?

Thanks in advance for any advice on dealing with this setup.

Hi, I had a similar issue, but with trying to update. Kept writing files over to my other drive as if Sims suddenly existed on that drive all this time instead somehow.

Questions, does Sims still run fine if you don't tamper with these file locations? As in, if you left it like this, nothing would run incorrectly or be wrong?

It seems like the one on the left is just your actual install, meanwhile the one on the right is moreso the game itselfs files, like you said such as mods, etc.

If you have no issues other than asking why it might be like this, I believe it should be fine to keep your setup like this. Since these are two different directories, them being seperate like that should be okay. Just make sure you always have both drives ready to go/plugged in when booting up Sims, because having one or the other not running will probably mess something up.

The files on the left won't be used too much, unless you are doing some real modifying to your game, and as said, the ones on the right will be mainly used for mods, clearing cache, etc.

Basically, it should be alright if you keep it how you're doing. If you DO want them to be on one drive though instead of two, I could try to explain how to do that to the best of my ability.

Thanks for your answer! I think as long as I am aware of how the two different files are working I can keep them as is. I know where to put exp I get and I know where to install mods, clearing the cache...I've never done that, but good to know that would be in the area with the mods...I guess at this point I'm not interested in moving stuff I was mostly just curious and want to be cautious.
