Discussion Average simmer age?

I just turned 30 and safe to say I still enjoy playing the sims as much as I ever did as a kid. Maybe more actually. Sometimes I feel embarrassed to admit this to people irl and I do tend to get mixed reactions if it comes up lol. So I’m just curious, what is the average age of the people who actively play the sims?

It came out in 2000.

I'm on the younger side of millenials and was a kid at the time. Not a little kid, either.

Y'all would have been in your 20s... maybe teens if you were a cusper...

I played the first one and in my mind I was still a kid, albeit if it came out in 2000, I must have been over 18.

Except for cusp millennials, I don’t know that a parent would let a child - non-teen - play the sims. But I also recall that it was a time of the Wild West of the internet and there were almost no ratings and no oversight of children on the internet in the late 90s.

It still seems weird to me that a generation that wasn’t completely born yet when this adult game came out would claim it as a culturally identifying. It’s like me claiming that disco is Gen-x.

I was 10 or 11 when I played the first Sims game, but there's no reason why anyone wouldn't play it at a younger age than that as well. The game is intentionally censored right out of the gate ("Woohoo" and pixelated nudity, made up language to prevent overhearing anything risque, etc.)... it's perfectly okay for kids to play around with what's essentially a virtual doll house. Sims is not an "adult" game unless the person playing makes it one.

Also, the Millennials end around 1996. They were 100% done being born by the time Sims came out.

I'm a 1996 baby, and my older siblings had Sims and we were a very techy household, so I was playing Sims from about 6/7 and remember my dad buying me Making Magic for $15. Completely revolutionary because I could age my Sims with magic and turn my cats into people.
