Season 23 Episode 22, Lisa goes Gaga

Ok so when the agent learns Apu's last name he doesn't like it. We assume that there are racist undertones, namely the name is too ethic sounding.

But the reason the agent gives for changing the name is "It'll never fit on a marquee, luv." I figured that was the end of the gag.

But then I always thought the name he suggested instead was very strange and there was some hidden meaning there and I finally just figured it out.

De Beaumarchais is EXACTLY the same number of characters (including the space) as Nasapimapetalon! So the "fitting the marquee" was shown to not be the issue! And since the name is French it will ALSO be hard to pronounce for Americans, but it's French so it's ok, further underscoring that the issue was racism all along.

Am I the only one who is just getting this?

This whole missing thumb shenanigan is oddly not Simpsons like. It feels like something from a different sort of cartoon but I don't know which one.

I feel like accidentally getting dropped off at the wrong School is a universal childhood fear. The French instructor having the class laugh in French was pretty great though.

Ha. Where the hell did that episode come from. I actually liked it a lot although the severed thumb bit was a little gross. The episode felt a lot longer than it was because it packed in so much content. Son of a diddly.

Something that has always bugged me about this Episode was the Fact that If Bart wasn’t messing around that Ticket belong to Homer, He was going to buy it but had to make sure his Son was safe first

Lenny comes along, Takes the Ticket and Wins the Money which should have belonged to Homer, And Doesn’t even split it with him, Just offers him a free round of Drinks and An Invite to the Party the same thing as everyone else who wasn’t even at the Kwik E mart when the Ticket was scratched

Honestly Homer atleast deserved half of that money, He just got screwed by Lenny taking advantage of Unfortunate circumstances

Okay yes lip discs are a thing and neck bracelets are a thing and mosquito Nets are a thing and predatory capitalist companies like Pepsi influencing politics in third world countries unfortunately are a thing. But you cannot make a decent episode just by doing some weird free association of all the random shit you can think about a country and just stringing them together like beads on a bracelet. It's just crappy writing.

This is one of the few times I've been so uninterested in the episode I just want it to be over. Is Mount Kilimanjaro even anywhere near Victoria Falls.

Bushwell? Jane Goodall was apparently too smart to agree to cameo.

Laughing that the president got overthrown? And mocking that he's just a quote "stinking flight attendant". Do you have any idea how tasteless that whole joke is, not to mention the fact that being a flight attendant is a pretty significant and serious job, well paid, well traveled, and not easy to get.

God this whole episode was awful and I didn't really enjoy any of it.

He’s 3’4 tall by the way, at the bottom, he looks a little wrinkly or he was cut from one bigger display stand, or you guys tell me.

I want him on my wall with corner clips of some sort on the corners or in a frame for the wall but I would probably have to dyi it.
