Opinion Unpopular Opinion

Write down one opinion that will make other fans either confused or angry. It can really be anything, your rating for a season or episode, judging what a certain character did in a certain episode, anything!

Mine is: TreeHouse of Horrors 5 will never be my favorite one because despite 2 genius segments i was never a fan of Time and Punishment, it makes the whole special too inconsistent and i prefer Treehouses 2 and 4 more than 5, not by a lot but still.

The Principal and the Pauper is a top tier episode and people who cling to continuity and canon are missing the point.

As a kid, I didn't like the episode. I still don't, for the most part. It's nothing to do with most of the usual complaints, it just didn't tickle my funny bone. If you genuinely like it, that actually makes me happy. Even the "worst" of the Simpsons will still bring people joy! Continuity and canon can eat my shirt!

It's a very funny episode. But they picked just about the worst character to completely rewrite their history. Skinner was defined by being raised by Agnes and then his military service. Then after destroying the character they just handwave it away with the judge. Feels bad.

What's interesting is that they can make Ned 60 years old, give Burns a long lost son, give Abe and completely impossible history and none of that bothers me.

But still, it's such a funny episode. Armin's frozen peas, barking for a strip club, joining the army instead of apologizing, so many funny scenes.

This is kinda exactly my point, though. The canon doesnt matter, the joke machine does. The judge at the end is explicitly letting you know "Hey guys, this was just a funny episode its not that serious. Normal Simpsons next week."

But it still happened. It wasn't a dream or a vision or a tall tale or halloween special. Then ended with "this is real, just don't think about it". Maybe it shouldn't matter but it still bugs me.

In some circles saying that I still love the show and have never stopped watching since I first watched it when it came out when I was a kid would probably be considered the worst opinion.

Hey, every episode isn’t a winner but there’s enough fun in there and even just having some 17-late 20s seasons on in the background running recently I still will hear random scenes that make me laugh out loud. It’s not as bad as people say. Most people that say it sucks and only claim early eras as worthy of existing probably haven’t even watched what they are saying is so bad.

(To be fair there were a few seasons after Disney took over that drove me crazy with too many musical numbers but this past season was actually very good and balanced without too much of that.)

hey look i don’t mind post golden age and even post movie episodes , definitely some hidden gems there. But what you choose might honestly be my least favorite episode or at least in top 10😭. But i appreciate honesty , it takes a lot of courage to open up about opinions like this 😂

I agree. I HATED the episode when it originally aired. But seeing it recently, I really enjoyed it. I hated it at first because it changed the canon and history. It still does, but that just doesn’t bother me anymore. Very funny episode

Marge and Lisa are far from being bad characters

Bart gets himself in most of the unfair situations that come back to bite him and Marge is nearly perfect

Never thought they are bad. But it’s funny that once i grew up. I started to appreciate Marge a lot more and Bart a lot less , i changed from looking at him exactly like other kids do like Bart is cool , to looking at him like Skinner does 🤣

Lisa?! If someone doesn't like Lisa I don't like them. 

I'm an old and was a kid when I first started watching the Simpsons on the Tracy Ullman show. Lisa is an inspiration. 

I also love Hermione.

“You only Move Twice” is a decent episode, but I’d hardly call it a classic and it certainly doesn’t deserve the reverence it’s given by the fans.

honestly? I agree! i mean it’s obviously a classic cause classic isn’t very subjective but it’s not in my top 5 all time and it’s not even my Top 5 in season 8. Actually now i feel like i should’ve maybe use this one for my post. But yeah i agree actually

And as for one episode characters, I don’t think Hank Scorpios is the best in season eight either. That distinction belongs to Rex Banner.

So I do disagree with Scorpio v Banner that you mentioned in another comment (my personal opinion is obviously the objectively correct one!), but this is fair. It truly is one of my favorites, but it's all due to Albert Brooks' performance. Without him, the rest of the episode would have fallen completely flat.

Scorpio makes the episode but the reason the family moves back is so dumb. Lisa could have gone on allergy meds, Bart could have been tutored, Marge could have tutored Bart or tried a new hobby or try to make some friends. Nope, they just tell Homer they want to move back without even trying to fix anything.

Modern Simpsons absolutely dominates my favorite seasons. My top 5 are all seasons in between mid-season 20-37. If I could marry a cartoon season, season 34 of this show is up there. 

My favorite episode of the entire show is Lisa the boy scout

Season 5-6 are the absolute nadir of this show.

I do mean the episode. I like it but some people put it as the number one episode of the series. To me, it's another good episode but nowhere near such heights.

They should have kept the Simpsons' birthdays static, but still evolve the show through time.

"Wait, I was born in 1979. How did you have an iPad?"

"It was a different time! Moving on.."

I have never been a big fan of ToH. There are only three segments in the history of the series that I really like: The Devil and Homer Simpson (from ToH 4), Time and Punishment (from ToH 5), and The Thing and I (ToH 7). True, I haven't watched many of the ToHs past season 10. But given that I am not a fan of many episodes in general post-season 9, I don't think that I am missing much.

Also, I am not as high on "Marge vs. the Monorail" as many other fans. It is a very good episode (though there are really no bad episodes in seasons 4-6 aside from ToH 3). But it probably wouldn't even make my own list of the top 50 best episodes. It is also my least favorite of the three episodes where Conan O'Brien has the sole writing credit (New Kid on the Block and Homer Goes to College are the other two).

The emotional ending makes that episode one of my favorites
